Am in need of taking the morning after pill after a slip up today, never have I before so wondering what happens?
Does it cause heavy bleeding?
Recent stomach illness it just totally slipped my mind until after the event that I'm not covered contraception wise

I've only taken it once and from what I can remember, I had no side effects at all.

PumpkinP · 18/08/2019 18:21

It’s not a big deal, yes it made me bleed for a few days but nothing excessively.

PutyourtoponTrevor · 18/08/2019 18:22

Bit of bleeding, cramps and a headache here, nothing too bad though

Heatherjayne1972 · 18/08/2019 18:23

Why don’t you ask to have a chat with the pharmacist They can talk you through what might happen

BertieBotts · 18/08/2019 18:27

It has made me nauseous when I've taken it. Other than that nothing bad. Yes you should have a mini-consult with the pharmacist so you can ask about side effects, timing etc then.

marriedwithhounds · 18/08/2019 18:30

I took the MAP about five years ago. Don't remember any immediate side effects (cramps, bleeding etc) but I do remember not having my period for about three months after. Very odd for me as usually very regular and predictable. Returned to normal after that. Must be something to do with hormones??

Belle89 · 18/08/2019 18:30

Thanks was feeling a little 😮 when I realised.
Yes will be having a chat with a pharmacist tomorrow but great to hear first hand experiences. I find some medical professionals gloss over the side effects at times especially when it comes to contraception. It took a lot of attempts to find something that suited, mini pill but after recent illness I now am not covered by that.

I had no sickness but annoying, light bleeding on and off for a few weeks.

LazyLemur · 18/08/2019 18:34

I've taken it lots of times Blush
Each time, no bleeding or periody stuff but horrendous nausea for a few hours. Learned to take it, have a nap and then be fine.

PumpkinP · 18/08/2019 18:52

I had regularl periods after it certainly didn’t stop mine (sadly)

glueandstick · 18/08/2019 18:53

In my case, about 9 months later you have a newborn in your arms.

Thingsdogetbetter · 18/08/2019 18:57

The only problem i had was elderly assistant in the chemist shouting over to other elderly assistant about whether they had any in stock. Assistant 2 yell back yes, so I loudly said, thank God, didn't want a quick shag and failed condom to have consequences! They then realised what they'd done and we all laughed. Grin

RedCowboyBoots · 18/08/2019 19:01

Not much tbh. Taken it quite a few times, because I'm a bit scatter-brained and a total worrier.

Now keep one in my medicine cabinet just in case- you can buy them for about £30 from a pharmacy, no personal questions asked. If you don't specify you want to pay for it they do cover it under the NHS but ask you everything short of your inside leg measurement.

bambalaya · 18/08/2019 19:07

It made my next period very light and a little late (about 10 data) but that's all

riotlady · 18/08/2019 19:10

I felt really queasy but don’t remember any bleeding.

GizzardChops · 18/08/2019 19:14

I got pregnant after taking the MAP. Although I went on to miscarry.

JesusHRooseveltChrist · 18/08/2019 19:21

I felt pretty nauseated and headachey after I took the MAP. My next period was early, but I don't recall it being any different than my usual periods. Cycles returned to normal after that.

TheBadCop · 18/08/2019 19:35

bleeding but from what I remember, not straight away and it messed up by cycle a bit for 2 months but that was all. It wasn't bad at all.

Owlish · 18/08/2019 19:38

Taken in once. I literally cannot remember the effects

Scuttlingherbert · 18/08/2019 19:47

For me there was no bleeding and my next period was normal. I just had tender breasts until my next period and felt a bit emotional for a couple of days after taking it.

Belle89 · 27/08/2019 12:52

So I took the pill on the 21st early, parcle got waylayed at the post office Confused
Have some spotting today but for past few days have been having bouts of nauseous and a lightheaded/dizzy feeling, is this normal?

Batqueen · 27/08/2019 13:38

Felt a bit lousy for a few days and that was it!

Batqueen · 27/08/2019 13:40

Sorry didn’t see your update. Yes sounds about right. I just felt a bit like I was coming down with something.

SirJamesTalbotAndHisSpeculum · 27/08/2019 13:43

Do be aware that if you take the MAP after you've ovulated it is ineffective.

GrannySquares · 27/08/2019 16:09

I've taken it 3 times before. Nothing happened, my period came about a week late but that's it. Last time I took it... my period never arrived because it never worked! I got pregnant :( I would definitely recommend you get the contraceptive IUD put in as it is a lot more effective than MAP.
