8.5 stone and I still don’t feel thin?

Been eating more healthily and walking a lot and now weigh 8 1/2 stone (I am also quite short) but still don’t feel thin- still have wobbly and blobby patches.

Is anyone else the same? What did you do?

"How can anyone tell anyone, never having seen them, whether they are fat or thin"

Well, you can tell within reason from the person's dimensions, weight, dress size, etc. A size 6 is thin, that's not subjective. a size 22 is not, that's also not subjective.

I'm 5 3 and have been as slim as 7 stone which is underweight but i was super fit at the time and I looked amazing! Lol! Couldn't maintain that sadly.

For many years when younger I would naturally fluctuate between 7.5 and 8 stone which was a reasonable weight for me and I looked fine. At 8.5 I look a bit flabby in places as you describe. I don't carry weight well though. Which is rubbish as I am currently fucking enormous at 11 stone as I have developed a chronic illness in the last 4/5 years.

It really depends on your height, build and how you carry weight. As long as you are within the normal weight range and feel fit and healthy, then if you think you need to lose a further half a stone try it and see.

As others have said you may need to do some other exercise and/ or weight bearing exercise to tone up fully.

Yep Gwenhwyfar bloody apple shape - glad it’s not just me.
Apparently where you put weight on is genetic.
Thing is with us apples people think I’m “really thin” because I’ve got thin legs and arms. My stomach is as good as it’ll ever be now but even when I was pushing 12st I had thin legs and arms!
It’s a most inconvenient shape (or lack of). I never wear dresses as I have no shape!!

@2pointfourmonkeys

I'm 8.5st and 5'5", technically underweight

That can't be right. I'm 5'8 and 8 st 8 and I'm only just barely underweight.

Just checked on the nhs NHS BMI calculator. Your bmi is 19.8, a perfectly healthy weight.

Does anyone know how to deal with the apple middle? I am an apple too and always say that I look like a mushroom.

I have really shapely legs, but am a total barrell. I'd be grateful for ideas!

I was the same, OP!

I got a PT, started training for marathons, took up weight training and I do yoga.

I weigh a little more now (8.10) but I got rid of the fat and now have muscle. I feel great!

It takes clean eating, hard work and professional advice but you can transform yourself.

feelingverylazytoday · 18/08/2019 08:44

JapaneseBirdPainting I think if you're on an apple shape you really need to do some serious exercise to keep it in check, and as other posters have said you might have to aim for the lower half of the healthy BMI category.
I've found that I need to be very active to control my weight and to keep my waist measurement in the safe area.
The good news is that visceral fat is supposedly targeted by exercise and apple shape women can lose weight and maintain weight very successfully, as long as they exercise as well as reducing calories.

floribunda18 · 18/08/2019 08:46

I got down to that once at 5'7" and still didn't feel thin. However, there was nothing of me, I was less than a size 8 (in the 90s) and I had a slight eating disorder.

aliceelizaloves · 18/08/2019 08:48

I think you need to tone to feel slimmer which may even increase your weight. I'm 5.5 and around 8.5 stone and feel slim. I eat anything I want and stay between 8.5 and 9 stone. I have been under 8 stone when obsessed with exercise and eating very little and looking back at photos look unhealthy thin. T was also exhausting to be so careful with what I ate. After childbirth I was about 10 stone and looked overweight. It might also depend on your body type.

Hi Op I am 5ft2 and 8st 5. I don't feel thin, I feel slimish. I am 46. In my 30s I was 7st10 and felt thin, was too thin probably gaunt. Since then I've had 3 kids and my body has changed a bit. This weight is my normal now.
