8.5 stone and I still don’t feel thin?

Mymygivemeafry · 17/08/2019 11:20

Been eating more healthily and walking a lot and now weigh 8 1/2 stone (I am also quite short) but still don’t feel thin- still have wobbly and blobby patches.

Is anyone else the same? What did you do?

Japanese bird I was 12.5 stone after dc and got down to 9 over course of 3 years with

My fitness pal food and weight tracking, its really useful to make you think about swapping for more healthy options
Gave up booze (was alcy so needed done that was a lot of calories for me)
Sit ups and weights at home (would love to do gym but disability means can't do the fun stuff!)

Back up to 10.5 now, just reactivated my fitness pal, not having looked for a few years. Which is why I was able to be so specific about how long it took to lose the 3.5 stone! 3 years is a long time, it didn't feel like it at the time, ticking down a pound at a time :)

growlingbear · 17/08/2019 12:18

I never felt 'thin' when I was that weight (lowest weight 8 st 3, height 5' 4") I had a flat chest and very slim waist but still had quite plump hips and thighs.
Best thing to do would be weight training to tone and dynamic yoga to make sure the weights don;t tighten the muscles or bulk them.

bluebluezoo · 17/08/2019 12:19

I think 8.5 st is fine. Unless you’re 4 ft or thereabouts.

These threads always go the same way though. A variety of posters come on and say with a heat tilt, well 8.5 st might be fine for you, but I’m 5’7 and i’d feel wobbly at that weight”

Then the suggestions to cut out carbs, go to the gym/tone up...

Bottom line is none of us here can really tell you if you’re thin or obese, even on height/weight, unless you are very extreme.

When i had an ed i still didn’t feel “thin”. I was still within the “correct” weight for my height. But i’d dropped 3 st in 6 months- and was living on two slices of toast and a can of diet coke every day, plus 2 hours of exercise a day.

Only you can know if your feeling of not being thin is because your body suits a particular weight, or because you have a disordered view of your body shape and size.

JapaneseBirdPainting · 17/08/2019 12:21

Thanks Fraggling that really is very interesting to me. :)

Fraggling · 17/08/2019 12:22

Quiet contentment is at bottom end of normal range for her height.
She is small build as well for height.

I mean anyone can have eating disorders and she can speak for herself but these threads where people are concerned etc over people who are in NHS normal bmi range, I find it a bit unnecessary.

Ninkaninus · 17/08/2019 12:23

Being thin and having wobbly bits are not mutually exclusive, especially after having had children (don’t know if you have). You can tone up with running (or other cardio) and weightlifting, which will have a huge effect on your figure and on your muscle tone.

You need to not concentrate on numbers ... and concentrate on your positive assets

swingofthings · 17/08/2019 12:27

I'm 5'2'' 8 stone 10 and I'm not slim at all. I am slim at 8 stone 3. I'm very small bones so get away with it, but 8 stone 1/2 makes me average, not slim.

Zaphodsotherhead · 17/08/2019 12:33

I'm 5'6 and recently dropped nearly three stone. I'm now weighing in at just over 9 stone (anywhere between 8:12 and 9:4 depending on time of day etc).

I feel thin, people keep telling me I look thin, but I still have a wobbly and sticky out tummy. But then, I've had five children and the skin has stretched a fair bit and will never go back.

We have to learn to forgive ourselves our imperfections. Congratulate yourself on being a healthy weight and work on being able to do what you want to do without being out of breath. That should be enough for any human!

Fatasfooook · 17/08/2019 12:40

Don’t lose any more weight, just tone up with yoga.

kateandme · 17/08/2019 12:42

i thnk the fact you said you dont feel thin is very telling.what is this ideal of needing to be thin?who and where did this become the wanted look?its been drummed into us so much that it is now something we dont question. whoever said that thin was good, good god imagine if that person said fat was.we would all be sat here now saying ooooh not fat enough???diet culture.mental health.eating disroders.this ideal and persieved perfection in thinness.

you need to be healthy, well, loving yourself at that point with every moul you fit.wobbly bits equal bad, skin eqauls bad what even is that?

what are you looking for?and if its thin then why?

its so sad to see people needing to be thin.this world is fucked up

Rubicon80 · 17/08/2019 12:44

I'm 5 ft 8 and weigh 8 st 9 and I still don't feel thin.

Before kids I was 7 st 12 and at my height that was definitely skinny.

furrytoebean · 17/08/2019 12:48

Well I feel utter shit reading this thread.

I came on to say that I’m 57kg and 5’3 and look great.
But apparently that’s massive.

Gwenhwyfar · 17/08/2019 12:50

I think that if you lose weight, sometimes instead of just being happy with it, you look for more faults. I've lost a bit of weight and would like to lose a bit more, but not much. However, I'm now worried about my cellulite for the first time in ages. I think it's just because that's what I see now when I look in the mirror when I'm getting dressed. My stomach's not hanging over my jeans, so I notice my cellulite more.

MyDcAreMarvel · 17/08/2019 12:51

It’s not massive furrytoe it’s just not thin which is the point of the thread. You would only need to lose a stone so it’s not too bad.

Fraggling · 17/08/2019 12:52

YY zaphod

I did feel great when I was lifting weights though. I wasnt like ripped or anything and have never had a flat tum as an apple

But I felt light on my feet, healthy, strong. It was great.

Focusing on how you feel rather than how you look is good

Also remembering that we tend to focus on our less good bits (as an apple I always noticed other women's flatter stomachs) and forgot that they were looking at me and feeling the same (look at her small bum thighs).

It's hard when we're bombarded with imagery of beautiful women non stop, and our culture tells everyone to judge women on how they look. And the sort of crap in media where they take a gorgeous woman and say look! She has a wonky big toe etc. It's so toxic.

isseywithcats · 17/08/2019 12:53

im 5ft 6 size ten 8.5 stone and i have wobbly bits because i cant be arsed going to a gym

Ninkaninus · 17/08/2019 12:53

Furry there are always comments like that on these threads.

Liz Hurley once said she’s kill herself if she ever got to the size of Marilyn Monroe (or something to that effect). [Hmm] There are some people for whom being thin is the be all and end all and they simply can’t conceive of the fact that it’s possible to be happy/content/beautiful/sexy/whatever positive attribute one wants to insert, without being ultra slim. I wouldn’t pay any attention - if you’re happy with your size who gives a shit what some other random person on this thread thinks?

Fraggling · 17/08/2019 12:54

9 stone is bang on the money mid healthy range for 5'3

Furry of course its not massive :/

I looked fab when I was 9 stone too!

Snowman123 · 17/08/2019 12:55

Gym, exercise classes, weights. You'll notice a big difference in a short space of time.

furrytoebean · 17/08/2019 12:56

It’s not massive furrytoe it’s just not thin which is the point of the thread. You would only need to lose a stone so it’s not too bad.

Are you serious?
I am actually really toned and thin, I have 18% body fat, but I lift weights 3 times a week and do yoga every day.

The number means fuck all

Fraggling · 17/08/2019 12:57

Yes Furry that was a right nasty comment

TheStuffedPenguin · 17/08/2019 12:59

8 and a half stone - average - WTAF?

Gwenhwyfar · 17/08/2019 13:00

"I am actually really toned and thin, I have 18% body fat, but I lift weights 3 times a week and do yoga every day. "

That's a drip feed. And why be so aggressive with your 'are you serious?'

MyDcAreMarvel · 17/08/2019 13:00

Yes I was serious - you say you felt shit , I was saying you should not as you are clearly not massive you are a normal weight . If you wanted to be “ thin” then you wouldn’t need to lose much weight, my post was meant to reassure you.
No need to be so sensitive.
