£99 on sweets

AIBU to be annoyed with dh?

He has taken dc to captain candy in Dubrovnik Croatia which is essentially a pick n mix place. He bought three bags of sweets and it came to £99.

The price is unclear and it is a tourist trap.

If anyone goes to captain candy please avoid.

I can't believe it still.

Ridiculous!

Happened to me in M&M world in London.. I love M&M’s so put quite a few in the bag and it came up to £30 !!!! Just for me Grin

KennDodd · 17/08/2019 20:43

I think that was money well spent op. You'll be dining out for years to come on that story. Your children might one day be telling their children tales of the £99 bag of sweets.

PancakeAndKeith · 17/08/2019 20:43

Go to the police and complain about what?
A shop has really high prices?
Should I go to the police every time I pay twice the Aldi price in Waitrose?

Yes it’s overpriced but no one made him pay it.

Otterseatpuffinsdontthey · 17/08/2019 20:45

12 hours later! The name of the shop in Edinburgh is "Kingdom of Sweets".

purplebunny2012 · 17/08/2019 20:46

I must have done well in M&Ms according to you guys as I got quite a sizeable bag and it only came to £12. I thought that was quite good

stucknoue · 17/08/2019 20:47

Venice is a complete rip off if you aren't careful - only ever order the set menu and check the service charge in advance when eating in. Across the road from the basilica granitas were €6, 2 streets away €1.50!

WyfOfBathe · 17/08/2019 20:47

You can spend £80 or €80 on a couple of burger kings. It's not the end of the world!

How? A burger king meal in France costs about €7. I'm not sure what you've been buying for €80!

Alfiesmom74 · 17/08/2019 20:50

@Littlepond £1 for a 4 pack so 400!! Could you imagine! Lmao!!

stucknoue · 17/08/2019 20:55

Btw if anyone is going to Disneyland Paris you can avoid the rip off prices by eating at McDonald's (more than U.K. prices but normal for France) or if driving there's a supermarket with hot rotisserie chickens, salad and bread, plus cheap croissants for breakfast!

purplebunny2012 · 17/08/2019 21:15

I think the only people who can see the photos are pink and the op, apart from the weird angle one.
@Nannyr I have been able to see every single photo that has been posted, including the OP's original 2.
I am on the app

We have a shop here in UK and we walked away with £27 worth of nothing! 2 packets of pop tarts and some candy sweets, thank god I never picked up my usual pick n mix, dread to think the cost!!

purplebunny2012 · 17/08/2019 21:19

Android app that is

purplebunny2012 · 17/08/2019 21:23

@ssd

Sb, did you say Lindt pick n mix?
That sounds like heaven to me
we have one in Resorts World near Birmingham

purplebunny2012 · 17/08/2019 21:23

Bold fail, sorry

brookelopez · 17/08/2019 21:25

I love the lindt shop at resorts world. although I am greedy so I've never been brave enough to buy anything. I couldn't afford it!

purplebunny2012 · 17/08/2019 21:46

I went in that American Candy store once and I like Arizona Green Tea but at £2 a bottle?

I paid £0.95 for a single 330ml can of Dr. Pepper in a Spar today! Bloody shocking how much prices have gone up. Hubby says it is to make the meal deals look like more of a bargain

violashift · 17/08/2019 21:46

I had to buy antihistamine cream too. Not sure how much that was.

Ouch, OP!

Vivianebrookskoviak · 17/08/2019 21:55

@PancakeAndKeith

I was talking in general about the confusion over currency mentioned by PPs not because of one shop.

PancakeAndKeith · 17/08/2019 22:28

But there will be a confusion over currency whatever country you go to.

Grisgristhecat · 17/08/2019 22:30

Confusion over currency maybe but tourist ripoff definitely!

DGV · 17/08/2019 22:35

@SageYourResoluteOracle
Bodrum is notoriously expensive and last week was kurban bayram so all prices get hiked up, unfortunately.

Fredastaireatemyjamsandwich · 17/08/2019 23:12

The best value pick and mix is in Ikea! Yummy chocolate marshmallows

anothermansmother · 17/08/2019 23:44

My mum and dad have just been and as "there was nothing to buy for the kids" they bought them sweets from captain candy...I've just asked my dad how much as they had a full gift bag each and he said over £100. I replied that would also be the price of the dentists bill. They've shared the sweets with anyone who has been to the house and the bags are still over half full. There're also really poor quality stuff too, mainly fondant covered in sherbet.

NeverTwerkNaked · 18/08/2019 00:12

Grin at that would also be the price of the dentist's bill
