To think this lady was crazy?

I crossed a busy ish street earlier with my husband and baby in his pram.

We were chatting and not really paying attention. Got to the other pavement and a lady rolled down her window and started yelling about a box.

I was confused and she was pointing to the road and yelling you need to pick up the box you just walked passed it.

I looked and there was a recycling type box in the road that I hadn’t noticed when crossing.

I was going to go pick it up as it was in her way but there was lots of traffic coming the other way so she stropped out of her car and moved it while shouting about how we walked passed itConfused

How is any of that my fault Hmm

Ignore.

She had a bad day.

Probably feels like a right muppet now...

Frillls · 16/08/2019 18:29

She was really rude!
However I’d have moved it to avoid any drivers having to stop their car

Passthecherrycoke · 16/08/2019 18:30

She probably thought it was your box. Just one of those shitty things

WorraLiberty · 16/08/2019 18:33

Meh. Me or my DH would probably have stopped the traffic for 20 seconds and picked it up to help her out.

Not a big deal.

NoBaggyPants · 16/08/2019 18:33

No big deal.

And she had a point.

AmIThough · 16/08/2019 18:35

In fairness, if you're crossing the road with a baby you should be very aware of your surroundings.

WorraLiberty · 16/08/2019 18:36

That's what I was thinking AmIThough.

I don't imagine she thought for a second that 2 adults with a baby in a pram, could've crossed the road without seeing it.

Lfajita · 16/08/2019 18:37

You were not really paying attention as you crossed a fairly busy street with a baby? Hmm
One of you should’ve gone and moved the box

SnuggyBuggy · 16/08/2019 18:40

Sounds a few currants short of a fruitcake

Sexnotgender · 16/08/2019 18:42

We were fully aware that there were no cars coming which is what I usually check for.

We didn’t however check for random stationary objects. Will look harder next time Hmm

Sorry did you miss the bit in my op where I said I was going to but lots of traffic was coming the other way?

There were 2 adults. One could easily have stayed with the pram while the other stopped the traffic for a few seconds.

Still it's not a big deal but YABU to think the woman was 'crazy'.

Lfajita · 16/08/2019 18:49

Sorry did you miss the bit in my op where I said I was going to but lots of traffic was coming the other way?
So you didn’t bother and let someone else deal with it instead? Someone who had to stop their car on the road in order to move it? Meanwhile you just ignored it?
Bit of a ‘well I’m alright, Jack’ attitude Hmm

AmIThough · 16/08/2019 18:49

Why ask if you're being unreasonable if you're not willing to accept that you're being unreasonable?

Sexnotgender · 16/08/2019 18:51

I didn’t ignore it. It wasn’t my bloody box!

I waited until there was going to be a break in the traffic but miss stroppy went and got it before I could. I’m not going to wander into traffic to get something sorry!

OP posts:
Bailarcantar · 16/08/2019 18:54

It wasn’t the driver’s either but seeing as you were the pedestrian, the decent thing to have done would’ve been to have moved it to avoid any drivers having to get out and move it.
Don’t come to AIBU unless you’re prepared to be told YABU

GREATAUNT1 · 16/08/2019 18:55

You’re main priority was getting your baby & yourselves across the road safely. If the barmy bastard woman had seen the rubbish why didn’t she pick it up? Shouting out her orders indeed the cheeky cunt! Honestly some motorists seem to think they’re above pedestrians.

Liloandpitch · 16/08/2019 18:57

Not sure it was her priority. She said she wasn’t even paying attention. There were two adults there. One could’ve stayed with the pram while the other moved it

Sexnotgender · 16/08/2019 18:57

I tried! I waited until a suitable break in traffic but she got there first!

Once I’d worked out what the hell she was yelling about I waited by the side of the road to go and get it. This apparently wasn’t good enough for her or some of you.

OP posts:
Grumpyunleashed · 16/08/2019 18:57

I take the other view.
If the driver had chosen to be polite and not fucking rude by yelling I might have been inclined to help.
People who yell at me demanding a favour, and make no mistake that’s what she was demanding, are treated with the contempt they deserve and at the very least ignored.
Yes one adult could have dealt, or rude driver could have got off her arse and sorted it herself not being offensive by action if not by word.

Abbafabba · 16/08/2019 18:58

AmIThough · 16/08/2019 19:01

@Grumpyunleashed at least you stay true to your username Wink

Juells · 16/08/2019 19:06

FFS are we all supposed to be street cleaners now?

brightfutureahead · 16/08/2019 19:06

In fairness, if you're crossing the road with a baby you should be very aware of your surroundings.

In fairness, if you’re crossing the road with a baby you shouldn’t stop in the middle of the road to pick up a box Hmm
