To feel awkward wearing a backpack as a grown woman?

Starting a new business in September, cleaning. I don't drive, so I'm considering buying this backpack to carry all my cleaning products. I just have one problem though, I always feel like a school kid when wearing a backpack I don't know why, feels so awkward🙈. Anyone here who's not a student wear a backpack instead of a normal bag?

Me. Am 34.

I wear a backpack everyday.

I can't be bothered with a handbag. Not enough room for shopping and I don't like single shoulder bags.

notupsettingpeople · 15/08/2019 16:22

You'll get used to it!!! Or you could consider a pull along trolley? I'd have a look for a business that can provide one with your logo and phone number on though Grin

Areyoufree · 15/08/2019 16:22

I work in academia, and most people have backpacks - especially those who walk / cycle to work. Easiest way to carry a laptop.

Iilana · 15/08/2019 16:22

Yes I used to wear one shoulder bag but was causing me back and shoulder pain, now I have a nice rucksack (It's leather and so feels more adult than a school bag).

WhenYouCantRunYouCrawl · 15/08/2019 16:23

I'm 37 and I love my Osprey rucksack. It has so many pockets, is seriously comfortable to wear even when fully loaded, and even has a waterproof cover for when it rains.

LemonTT · 15/08/2019 16:23

Yes, nearly every day. In fact I have 3.

ALittleBitAlexis · 15/08/2019 16:23

I'm 36 and I wear backpacks all the time. I do have one that can convert from a tote to a backpack, but Even that one's usually in backpack mode Smile

makingmammaries · 15/08/2019 16:23

Yes. Am late forties. I have a computer rucksack in which I carry all my work stuff. If I tried to carry it any other way I’d end up with back and joint problems. So, nice neat black rucksack, like yours.

Malibucyprus · 15/08/2019 16:23

I’m 36, I have a backpack and a bum bag (I only use them on holiday) go for it.

HerBigChance · 15/08/2019 16:23

I wear one every day as well, to put all my work and personal stuff in. I love mine and it feels empowering to be hands-free as you're strolling along. Honestly, if you look around, there will be so many grown women wearing one.

LemonTT · 15/08/2019 16:23

Oh and I agree a trolley bag would be a better idea because liquids are heavy.

NannyR · 15/08/2019 16:23

I use backpacks all the time - very practical and good for your back. I've never given much thought to what I look like carrying one and I don't really have any thoughts about what other people look like using them.

5foot5 · 15/08/2019 16:23

Backpacks are much more practical as you have your hands free and it is better for your back as more even weight distribution. Never occurred to me as a 57 year old that I might be considered too old for one!

megletthesecond · 15/08/2019 16:24

I'm 45 and wearing my Eastpak backpack as I type.

I've got a smart work rucksack too.

Bloodycats · 15/08/2019 16:24

I love a back pack! I hate handbags, they are so impractical, I think you’ll soon fall in love with wearing a backpack.

CmdrCressidaDuck · 15/08/2019 16:24

Don't be silly. I cycle part of the way to work and carry my clothes and laptop in a backpack, because how else would I carry them? How do you think people carry things hiking or trekking? Most adult humans who get to work some way other than a car carry their things in a backpack, because that's how humans are built to carry things. On their back.

whothedaddy · 15/08/2019 16:24

I wear a back pack every day- I walk or cycle to my professional office job. No way can I carry my laptop in a shoulder bag 5 miles a day without giving myself an injury. Most of the Guys I work with use back packs too for the same reason.

I always cringe when I see people lugging about a handbag and a laptop bag looking all flustered.

BringOnTheScience · 15/08/2019 16:24

Back packs are fine for all ages.
A pull-along wheeled box might be easier though. Damp cloths, keeping bottles upright, long-handled feather duster sticking out...

Windyone · 15/08/2019 16:24

Always use a rucksack so much better for shoulder/back/posture generally

NeverHadANickname · 15/08/2019 16:24

I will be soon! Our nappy bag is a rucksack style one for easier carrying.

BikeRunSki · 15/08/2019 16:25
  1. I have always used a backpack. I have a handbag, but it’s very much for best.
TheQueef · 15/08/2019 16:25

I have one of these.
I just brazen it out.

HerBigChance · 15/08/2019 16:25

I'm late forties btw.

I'm also planning a bum bag (mentioned above) for when I go walking along the beach. It means I'll only need to take my keys and phone out with me.

plominoagain · 15/08/2019 16:26

I have my work backpack with special pockets for all my kit, and then I have my other backpack with all my dinner and other essentials . I didn’t realise there was an age limit ?

ColaFreezePop · 15/08/2019 16:26

I use backpacks nearly every day e.g. going to gym have small backpack, my DD;s spare stuff for childminder go into another small backpack, need to carry stuff on my bike/shopping/travelling on public transport have 3 more backpacks with different pockets and capacities.
