To feel awkward wearing a backpack as a grown woman?

Starting a new business in September, cleaning. I don't drive, so I'm considering buying this backpack to carry all my cleaning products. I just have one problem though, I always feel like a school kid when wearing a backpack I don't know why, feels so awkward🙈. Anyone here who's not a student wear a backpack instead of a normal bag?

All the time.
Best way to carry a heavy load, but if you can’t manage, get a little pull-along trolley or suitcase. If you’re not used to it, fluids are heavy to carry, and if you are carrying odd shapes, you’ll need to pack them so the carry is comfortable instead of poking you.

I'm a wee bit older that all of you and I use a backpack, it's great!

I'm trying to help save the planet too, so will walk over to our local Aldi 20 minutes and bring a wheely backpack too. Brilliant, makes sure I don't buy anything from the mad middle aisle either. Wouldn't be without either of them.

OP either get a backpack, a wheelie backpack (or both), no one gives a hoot what you use as long as it's legal!

Very best of luck with your venture.

YABU - it's fine to wear a backpack, there is no age limit!
I'm 40 and use one everyday. Handbags are not my thing and cross body bags hurt my neck and shoulder.

BringOnTheScience · 15/08/2019 16:28

Box trolley ideas... www.amazon.co.uk/s?ref=nb_sb_ss_i_2_11&sprefix=wheeled+box&k=wheeled+box+trolley&tag=mumsnetforu03-21
Would also be easy to clean if any product leaked.

Shootingstar1115 · 15/08/2019 16:29

I used to feel like this but I carry a backpack around everywhere now as I’ve learnt that it’s a lot more comfortable than carrying any other form of bag.

I have two DC and during the summer holidays I have used a bag every single day to carry stuff in, even just to the shops. I hate hand bags. They kill
My shoulders carrying too much weight in them.

People won’t bat an eyelid!

NoLeopard · 15/08/2019 16:38

Mid 60s here and have never stopped wearing a rucksack/backpack. I can carry quite heavy stuff on my back that would be a strain if carried in either hand.

Cassilis · 15/08/2019 16:39

I despair.

pinkstar01 · 15/08/2019 16:39

I'm 34 and have to travel on the tube with my laptop everyday so I happily wear my eastpack backpack...really never thought anything of it!

tinytemper66 · 15/08/2019 16:41

I am 53 and use one

Sallycinnamum · 15/08/2019 16:43

I use one for work to carry my laptop and notebook. I used a laptop bag for years and had backache and joint ache from carrying it in my right hand. Pain pretty much gone now!

Thingsdogetbetter · 15/08/2019 16:45

52 and went the whole-hog and got a leopard print one. Bet Lynch would be jealous. 😁

RoLaren · 15/08/2019 16:45

My 72 year old mother uses a package in lieu of an old lady handbag. She says it makes her feel younger!

LucilleBluth · 15/08/2019 16:45

I wear my North Face backpack daily. It hold everything and is comfortable. I can't be doing with handbags.

whattodowith · 15/08/2019 16:46

I teach and use a backpack for my MacBook and paperwork. Satchels or handbags are terrible for your shoulders, back and posture. Backpacks are far more comfortable, just makes sense.

RezCowgirl · 15/08/2019 16:46

I love my backpack. I can carry all sorts of stuff without the strain and awkwardness of the messenger bag or a handbag.

honeylulu · 15/08/2019 16:47

I'm a city lawyer and have a backpack! So do most people. Would get backache otherwise.

I’m 31. Not only do I use a backpack but it has Buzz Lightyear all over it....no one bats an eyelid!

Northernsoullover · 15/08/2019 16:49

I'm a cleaner and although I drive, working in blocks of flats is a pain so I use a trolley. You get far more in a trolley.

Phineyj · 15/08/2019 16:54

You need to consider your back health. Rucksacks need a waist strap so you're carrying the weight on your hips rather than your shoulders and while trolley bags are good, you can easily wrench your lower back carrying them up stairs. If you have regular clients, it would be better to keep a box of basics at each property. That's what my old cleaner used to do.

Trethew · 15/08/2019 16:54

I’m 65. I always use a backpack for travelling

Flamingo84 · 15/08/2019 16:57

I’ve just swapped the nappy bag for a leather backpack and I love it. I think they’re quite trendy at the moment.

Magenta82 · 15/08/2019 16:59

I have one for work, it was hurting my back to carry a laptop in a shoulder bag.

I didn't want to use a "school" one or a "man's" one so I looked for one I liked and made me feel good. In the end I got one from Aruku aruku.co.uk/ which is lovely and has room for everything.

Apolloanddaphne · 15/08/2019 16:59

My DH is a sharp suited city business man in his 50's. He uses a backpack instead of a brief case as he often travels and he finds it much easier to carry all his stuff. Both my 20 something DDs use backpacks too - both casual and smart. DD2 asked for an expensive one as a graduation gift to use when she gets a graduate job. I am retired but have gone back to uni. I have one to carry all my books and stuff. There are backpacks for everyone!

Loopytiles · 15/08/2019 17:00

I have to carry a laptop about and use a backpack, otherwise would be likely to get a sore back!
