To feel awkward wearing a backpack as a grown woman?

Starting a new business in September, cleaning. I don't drive, so I'm considering buying this backpack to carry all my cleaning products. I just have one problem though, I always feel like a school kid when wearing a backpack I don't know why, feels so awkward🙈. Anyone here who's not a student wear a backpack instead of a normal bag?

DarlingNikita I have one similar to that but it drives me batty that it doesn't have any internal pockets. There's nowhere to keep bits and bobs like lip balm and a pen and a packet of tissues, so when you need to whip something out you have to go rootling around.

Dontgiveamonkeys1350 · 15/08/2019 17:31

I’m a cleaner. How are u going to move the hoover around?

splitthedifference · 15/08/2019 17:32

I'll never go back to a one-shoulder bag...I'm spending too much time at the chiropractor's as it is.

CaptainMyCaptain · 15/08/2019 17:32

Mine has so many pockets I can't remember what I've put in them. There is a useful zip pocket for valuables that goes against my back, though, so very secure.

awsomeDean · 15/08/2019 17:33

I always use a backpack, I even have a small one instead of a handbag

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 15/08/2019 17:33

Maybe they do but they only see it once you've walked away

Good point :o I often pair it with Toy Story Vans trainers as well just to complete the look....I reckon I definitely get hidden looks then :o

IsobelRae23 · 15/08/2019 17:35

My cleaner would have needed 2 of those bags, plus a trolley for her hoover and mop and bucket. How are you carrying those? No some people don’t have them in their homes- they rely on their cleaner for them!

AguerosAngel · 15/08/2019 17:36

I’ve just bought myself a rucksack and I love it and I’m 46! Far much more comfortable than my usual crossbody bags!

Greensleeves · 15/08/2019 17:38

My rucksack :) and I don't feel remotely silly about carrying it. I'm 42.

Me!! 66 and don't give a flying f* what people think.

Love my backpack, so useful.

AnnonniMoose · 15/08/2019 17:44

Late 40s and I have a lovely leather one, with compartments/pockets and everything. I bought it when I was on crutches a year ago, and now I don't know what I ever did without it Grin.

MiniMum97 · 15/08/2019 17:46

I wear backpacks all the time. As does my 45 yr old husband as he cycles to work. You are overthinking it.

Dontgiveamonkeys1350 · 15/08/2019 17:47

@IsobelRae23 this is what I was thinking. I have five clients who I work for several times during the week. Two don’t have a hoover and one had a really bad one that picks up everything. From my experience not everyone even has a broom. So I carry these in my car as well. Not sure I could carry all that stuff I have on my back.

DarlingNikita · 15/08/2019 17:48

QuimReaper, mine has a back internal pocket but it's deep and wide enough that things STILL get a bit lost in it Grin. My tip is to carry a clear zipped bag inside the backpack for small and elusive items.

MatildaTheCat · 15/08/2019 17:48

I’ve employed a cleaner for years as have many of my friends. Nonce of our cleaners has ever provided any products or equipment. They use ours.

When something runs out they tell us and we get the products we want used in our homes.

No need for backpack panic.

P0wderPuff005 · 15/08/2019 17:49

Rucksack every day & bigger one for holidays

mathanxiety · 15/08/2019 17:49

I used one as a nappy bag decades ago. I got tired of whacking my toddler in the face with my original crossbody bag every time I leaned over. DD1 was happy too.

AcrossthePond55 · 15/08/2019 17:50

I always use a backpack on holiday at Disney. And it's what I use as a carryon when I fly.

It's a Disney Jansport with Minnie & Daisy. They're not available anymore, the collection was sold out quickly. Can't tell you the number of adults who ask where I got it and a few have offered to buy it from me.

1066vegan · 15/08/2019 17:54

I'm 52 and use one every day.

Biggish one for work because I run in most days so need a change of clothes as well as my work stuff.

Small one for weekends.

EmpressLesbianInChair · 15/08/2019 17:54

Mid-40s. I’ve got a light sports backpack for days when I’m running or going to yoga after work, & a heftier one for weekends away / shopping. I am in London though, where it’s a lot more common for people not to drive.

HiItsClemFandango · 15/08/2019 17:55

I use a Eurohike backpack everyday to and from work, you get used to it

IsobelRae23 · 15/08/2019 17:56

@Dontgiveamonkeys1350 That’s what my cleaners say. There are also one or two that they went to, who did have a mop and bucket, but apparently that was not very clean, even with the cleaners bleaching and attempting to clean it. Hence they gave up and took their own. Seriously my cleaners do 3 trips back and forth the car with equipment. They made my, what I thought was well stocked under the sink, look pitiful!! 🙈

mathanxiety · 15/08/2019 17:56

And I agree that most people hiring a cleaner prefer if you use their products, and their cloths, sponges, brooms, hoovers, etc.

P0wderPuff005 · 15/08/2019 17:56

You can buy rucksacks with wheels too

1066vegan · 15/08/2019 17:57

And always a backpack or a rucksack (depending on how long I'm away) for holidays. I have a real hatred for cases on wheels.

Sitting in a hostel now with my rucksack at the end of the bed.
