Legislate to remove the right to strike?

Slippery slope....

FlameFlamingo · 04/08/2007 11:59

Anyone else ever wonder if that petitions site is more hassle than it is worth?

Aitch · 04/08/2007 12:01

ach, it keeps a lot of dafties busy.
we should all go on and post in support of the workers.

paros · 04/08/2007 12:25

I say strike if they feel it necessary they wont be doing it for fun . One of the bosses got a million pound bonus this year so I dont think he really cares about the workers .

tiredemma · 04/08/2007 14:32

"Royal Mail keep going on strike and there are important letters that need to be delivered but are not as they are on strike to often and it has to stop or get rid of royal mail and get a new company to take over."

PMSL.

This is like a comment my 6 yr old would make on the matter.

I would never sign a petition against someones right to strike.

Your friends head must be in the clouds somewhere.

tell her to do some research into why there is a strike- im sure she will be amazed to find that its not a way of the posties trying to skive a day off.

Im amazed at the stupidity of some people, really I am.

g21inny · 04/08/2007 15:50

Whatever happened to freedom of speech!!!
lilaura is allowed to have an opinion as are the rest of us I have read through this whole thread and all I hear is bullying!!
I was recommended this site highly but if its just a load of women not acceting eachothers opinion whats the point!!
I think its hard with the postal strike and we are having to miss out on things but I also can see why the posties are doing it!! On the other hand though what is it acheiving???
We should be helping if they want to get somewhere If the big boss is getting million pound bonus's should we not be fighting him then our post can get back to normal!!!
But at the end of the day all lilaura was doing was having an opinion should we not respect that and not slate her!!???
Also I thought we were all mums on here so the comment about a 2 yr old not knowing any different about his presents with unfair!!!
He may not understand but the parents do and I know I would be upset not being able to give any of my 4 kids their presents!!! sorry for the rant!!

Peachy · 04/08/2007 15:59

Elastivc TNT have started recruiting for their own posties, thats not a permnent situation (naturally defensive as Dh works alongside TNT mail in his office)

Do i think they should be striking? well, i dont think with all the current stuff going on RE copmpetition that its a wise time to strike- BUT they dont have great conditions either

In myca reer (past and to be) I wouldnt strike, I have experienced genuine problems through these strikes but I cant dictate and certainly poeple need the right to strike

tiredemma · 04/08/2007 16:00

If I was going to set up a petition against a strike, I would at least do some research into why the strike was going ahead.

Not just set one up because im pissed off at not getting my letters within 48 hrs of them being posted.

Of course everyone is entitled to their own opinion- no one doubts that. Its just that in this instance the majority agree that the petition is a pointless waste of time.

themoon66 · 04/08/2007 16:00

Is there a petition somewhere supporting the posties?

Peachy · 04/08/2007 16:02

(Actually lulu some governmental bodies are fining poeple for late returns (companies house apaprenltly) accordingt o another thread- whic is a bit [shock, and our Dla refual was only just in the apply for reconsideration time when it arrived, plus on anopther forum there were people concerned about parents lost pensions so people ARE struggling)

BUT free dom to strike is essential, people must have power, and the bonuses bosses receive compared with pay are awful.

tiredemma · 04/08/2007 16:02

nope, perhaps we should start one.

potoroo · 04/08/2007 16:39

G21nny
Whatever happened to freedom of speech?

You are witnessing it...

The OP's friend was allowed to start a petition on a government website protesting against Royal Mail without the secret police coming and dragging her out of her house in the middle of the night.

Freedom of speech does not mean we have to agree with the OP.
She's posted and it seems that everyone disagrees with her. That is not bullying. Nor is it a restriction of freedom of speech.

potoroo · 04/08/2007 16:41

Sorry - the whole 'freedom of speech' thing really annoys me.

And while I respect that laura is free to have her own opinion, I don't have to respect that opinion...

Saturn74 · 04/08/2007 16:52

"lilaura is allowed to have an opinion as are the rest of us I have read through this whole thread and all I hear is bullying!!"

g21inny · 04/08/2007 19:32

at the end of the day I understand that you are all expressing your opinions but when it gets personal and mean its gone too far!!! saying things like Perhaps expecting someone who doesn't know the difference between "there" and "their" to have much of a clue about industrial relations is a bit unrealistic and What's your pal's objection to the strikes then, laura, and why are you on here defending this instead of her? if its giving your opinion why has it been said that laura is defending when she is not she is asking what people think!! and asking the poor girl if she had ever worked or had to negotiate pay is well out of order!!! is she asking you personal things like that??? she is being shouted down as soon as she has made a comment!! I can see where the posties are coming from but I also know it s a right pain in the arse not having important post on time!! and like I said before why are we not helping the posties by going to the top dog ourselves unless we help them our post will carry on the way it is!!!! for god sake we are all mums and also we are adults so stop the childish bitching!!! yes you dont agree with her point of view but dont get personal!!!

Peachy · 04/08/2007 19:49

Ginny I am sorry but its slightly unbalanced to criticise eprceeived mean psotings and then be terribly rude about peolpe using less than perfect grammar, perhaps you shuld give your own last post some thought and consideration, I for one would be ashamed of the spirit of it, content of course is purely personal.

g21inny · 04/08/2007 19:57

Peachy please re read the thread I was actually saying that I thought it was rude of the person to mention lilauras grammer I was not being rude I was expressing the fact that people should not get so personal I am sorry if you took this the wrong way.

Bluestocking · 04/08/2007 20:06

Ginny dear, that's what "quotes" are for - to report someone else's speech. And this proves my point that if someone can't use grammar and punctuation correctly, they are very unlikely to be able to put their point across in an articulate and inteligent way - even if they have a point.

Bluestocking · 04/08/2007 20:07

Or even "intelligent"!

Peachy · 04/08/2007 20:10

Ginny I apologise, i did misunderstand your post- on re reading i can see your point but can also see where I made my error

bluestocking was it you that came on and said that then? If so this si a talkboard open to all- we tend to try and stick to arguing points rather than criticising typing (and bfore anyone starts on mine I have poor eyesight and cannot see the screen too well)

g21inny · 04/08/2007 20:16

Bluestocking there is no need to be rude I was in a rush whilst writing and I didnt think it was an english exam!!!!
I have 4 children to look after this pointless moaning about grammer is ridiculous!!
People may be dyslexic have you ever thought of that or do you think that if they are dyslexic they are not worthwhile joining a discussion??
I do not think this is worth discussing any further I have made my point got slated for it and now i feel its pointless!!!
sorry peachy if I confused you with my grammer!!

Peachy · 04/08/2007 20:19

g2inny don't worry about it, the ones who get funny about typing etc - just ignore them, never done old Coddy any ahrm has it?

Seriosuly don't let personal comments bother you

g21inny · 04/08/2007 20:21

Thank you peachy!! I do find it upsetting but its also petty so i wont let it give me a sleepless night!!!lol

lillaura123 · 04/08/2007 20:23
