To think charity street fundraisers should be banned?

Not the ones who just have a pot and are asking for small change. The commission earning, high pressure ones employed to pressure you into a direct debit.
My friend in desperation applied to be one and said they were trained in all sorts of manipulative sales techniques and even told to pretend people had dropped money to get their attention.
Apologies if this has been done before but some new ones have just set up in my town. You physically have to move out of their way as they block your path trying to engage you and I just can’t believe they’re still legal.

Fully agree. My list of charities not to support is ever growing thanks to their use of these methods.

I hate the ones that come to your door, they have some horrible tactics too.

I had A man approach me once for I think oxfam he was really rude and because I said I couldn’t , he asked if my painted nails were shellac and the cost.

I agree. I often notice that the people who stop and talk to them are those who look least able to spare the money. I feel it is a tax on low self-confidence and poor boundaries.

The worst I found was when I was at King’s Cross station with my mum, trying to get a train to the funeral of a close family member. There were massive problems with the trains and there were fed up, and some quite upset, people all over the station. And yet these ‘chuggers’ thought it was a good idea to go round these people trying to get money off them!

I say ‘no thank you’ politely once. If they persist or try to block my path, I tell them to fuck off.

Don’t care if it’s rude, they are damn annoying and can be aggressive.

There’re not called Charity Muggers for nothing.

It must work though, or surely they wouldn't use them. They do my head in too, and I wouldn't ever sign up with them but some people must.

They should be banned. It’s basically emotional blackmail. Luckily I have no problem saying no to them

They are another thing that does put me off going to the high street.

They are basically preying on the vulnerable. If someone is willing to give out their bank details to a stranger in the street, they are too vulnerable to consent in my opinion. Someone should set up a charity to help the victims of the chuggers!

It must work eventually. Sooner or later one of the hundreds of people doing this will get lucky. I am always polite at first

There could be a PPI style scheme to give people their money back!

I think it does more harm than good - general sneaky behaviour has certainly put me off giving to certain charities. I wouldn’t be guilt tripped into anything though since I learned there are over 100,000 registered charities in the uk. I couldn’t give them all a penny each even if I wanted to.

This perfectly describes where I live, there's been loads of complaints about them with the council etc being asked to deal with them and doing sod all! I've witnessed them taking details from people who are clearly vulnerable (drunk, high, have learning disabilities) it's disgusting!

I've even witnessed them basically stalking people up the whole of our main shopping area calling people names who wouldn't stop etc!

They don't stick to the rules they're supposed to re not taking advantage of the vulnerable so yea, just ban them!

Some of them are so aggressive. I had one yell ‘don’t you care about animals?!’ After me when I politely said I couldn’t stop and talk to him.

I actually do care a lot about animals. But being yelled at in the street didn’t endear me to that charity funnily enough.

We regularly get 3-5 different lots on our very small high street. At the same time as the energy suppliers. It makes us avoid shopping there as I get too grumpy with having to say no forcefully several times and them persisting. Council seem to shut it down for a bit but it always ends up coming back.

It's the ones where they try to entice the children that get me most. 😤

They come round my way. I live on an estate known for many people living in poverty and they are just so pushy.

For me it's when they come dancing over while I'm stuffing a Gregg's down my throat as I race here there and everywhere I my lunch break, acting like we're at a beach party of something and say "hello beautiful, phwaaa that looks good, you look like a giving sort of person"

Fuck off!!! I need to pick up my prescription and my dear great aunts neighbours daughters cats birthday card and my tampon is making a bid for freedom. Just let me fucking gooooooooooo!

The worst one I had was in the doorway of my local hospital, raising money for a children’s charity. I’d just had a miscarriage, was in sweats and a t shirt crying, and he managed to sign me up to a monthly direct debit because I just didn’t have the energy to say no. I saw him a few more times that day going for elderly and really unwell looking people. I was really shocked the hospital didn’t tell him to fuck off.

They are just awful, and I believe they are already banned in quite a few towns and cities. Liverpool City Centre being once place ( Someone correct me if Im wrong about that). My town isnt one of these places though sadly, and walking through the town centre is like running a gauntlet trying to avoid them. They are so rude, agressive and pushy and I won't give to any charity that employs these tactics.

I really want to tell them to fuck off and get a proper job. They dont give a shit about the charity they are representing and just want the commission. Smary gits!

The worse one who came to my house wouldn't take no for an answer (pretty much had his foot in the door) when I said I dont have £5 a month to spare and I wouldn't give my bank details to some random on my doorstep said "well you can afford a smartphone cant you?" Pointing to the one in my hand. He nearly lost his foot.

I find they lose interest very quickly when you know facts and figures about their shitty charities. I had a lovely conversation lovely for me with an Amnesty one recently. I told her alllllllll about my views on their sexism. I also told the Red Cross a few things.
