I dont mind hamsters to much we have had some lovely ones except for hannibal (formally snowball) who attacked everything and escaped regularly and was always found sitting on the cat food with the cat sat looking scared in the corner.

I did have a siamese cross with what the vet thought was a Bengal. She was lovely and friendly but would catch and kill squirrels in one jump. When my youngest son was born she took to pooing on everything that belonged to him. We had to watch her like a hawk. In the end she got so angry with us she moved in with our elderly neighbours only coming to us for extra food. When we moved they offered to keep her. We still go and visit her and shes living a very pampered life.

A small Jack Russell type dog. He went for my youngest daughter. Completely unprovoked (I was watching). I returned to the previous owner and within a couple of days the dog had a new home on a farm and was as happy as Larry.

We've had all sorts of dogs over the years and whilst most of them have had their moments, I've never come close to re-homing any of the others.

Orchid mantis

It was cute when it was tiny...freaked me out a bit when it was big though

I fed her (and it was a her) and sometimes her arms would reach out to grab at me and it would make me feel all ick!!!

When she died..I didn’t get another

My parents had a Siamese who hated me and the feeling was mutual. I was always covered in scrams and bites. He would growl when the doorbell was rung and had to be locked in another room. He would follow the window cleaner from window to window baring his teeth at him. The Vet used gauntlets. He went in the garden on a collar and lead which was hooked up to a pole until we heard caterwauling and a man screaming. It was a 6ft 4 Irish neighbour who could have given Michael Flatley a run for his money because he'd gone up the garden looking for my Dad. Luckily for him that he was wearing wellies or his legs would have been ribbons.

iklboo · 13/08/2019 17:15

why are all posters not agog and * * that one PP had a pet tiger and another had a fucking elephant???????

Because they were taking the piss 😄

BlueJava · 13/08/2019 17:20

I had a beautiful white rabbit called Belinda. I loved her, she hated me (in fact all of us). She bit, she scratched, she "thumped" her back legs on my mums foot and broke a bone, she constantly escaped and was a nightmare to catch. Belinda was a total nightmare I was heart broken when she passed away though around 7 years old.

Not the fault of the pet but when I was a child I asked for and was given a small tank of tropical fish for Christmas one year. I was thrilled to bits watching my colourful new buddies swimming about and going in and out of their funky miniature castle.

Two days later, I was alarmed when some of the fish started developing white spots ... within a week or so, all the fish bar one had developed these spots, from which they quickly died. We worked out the single remaining fish must be the carrier of the disease, and for this reason we couldn't replace the others as they'd just succumb like the first lot.

So for months I had a single fish in my tropical fish tank Sad until the poor thing eventually died, probably of loneliness, and I was finally able to replace all the others.

A hamster we looked after for 2 weeks in the school holidays. It slept all day and escaped at night, chewed through the sofa and caused mayhem. We were glad when it went back

Bwekfusth · 13/08/2019 17:37

Evil hamster that just bit me every time I tried to handle it. Also ate all its babies. I bred many hamsters and that was the only one that actually ate her young. Psycho bitch.

danmthatonestakentryanotheer · 13/08/2019 18:07

A gerbil that was a reincarnation of Harry Houdini. The bloody thing would escape from any thing!!

Fucksandflowers · 13/08/2019 18:21

Definately mice.
Cute to look at but omg the stench!!
I bought girls because apparently they don't smell.
Absolute lie.
The cage would stink out the room after less than 24 hours 🤢
It's dreadful but I was relieved when they died!

Also had a very vicious house rabbit who chased and bit everyone, he went back to pets at home.

And my cat.
She has a lovely gentle temperament granted but she is quite destructive.
Doesn't care about scratch posts either.

Yogurtcoveredricecake · 13/08/2019 19:08

We had the best hamster followed by an awful, bitey one. Relief all round when it finally died. We didn't get another.

Comps83 · 14/08/2019 19:53

I also had a cat
He was awful . Used to bully our other cats to the point that one of them used to vomit with fear
He attacked all the other cats in the street apart from one which he made friends with and it would wait outside for him, but would also attack our other cats if they came out instead
He never shut up, loved the sound of his own voice.
He would also piss on people . Just walk up to ppl and spray them
He was huge . Used to beg to all the neighbours to the point I was threatened with rspca for neglect because he was always begging for food. Anyone with a pair of eyes could see he was far from malnourished infact the vet said he was overweight
He was a horror

Ellmau · 14/08/2019 21:37

Our MonsterRabbit ran away once. He came back next day. No one was pleased to see him.

Comps83 · 14/08/2019 21:43

Our evil rabbit escaped 3 times
The 3rd time we didn’t go looking for him

DickieDonkey · 14/08/2019 21:46

Gerbils, jumpy, bitey, bastards.

RainbowAlicorn · 14/08/2019 22:00

I have had lots of animals over the years, I wont list them all, I have had 4 hamsters over the years and they were all lovely, the last one I had was my favourite, she had loads of personality and was actually really loving.

The worst pet I ever had was a demon Guinea Pig when I was about 6, she was evil and would attack anyone who went anywhere near her, it was the first time I was genuinely relieved when a pet died.

oprahfan · 14/08/2019 22:03

Hated bloody cats! Ungrateful little buggers, can’t understand why anyone loves them.
Had a great hamster, he had a fabulous little personality and was loved very much.

Dieu · 14/08/2019 22:55

Oh gosh, hamsters and rabbits aren't doing so well on this thread!
My daughter would love a rabbit (I know they're sociable and shouldn't be kept alone), but would you say that guinea pigs make a better pet?

PoppingOneOutIn2020 · 14/08/2019 22:57

An African pygmy hedgehog... oh my good God alive it stank, absolutely stank. Think rats smell x1000.

Never again, although she was extremely cut and loving.

Fibbsdottir · 14/08/2019 22:57

Black lab. Gorgeous, sweet loving person, but my god, the hair, the smell the constant begging for food. Would never get another.

Drogosnextwife · 14/08/2019 23:03

Rabbits had 2, one was a very timid little thing but kept chewing all my wires. The other was a vicious little shit and used to attack me and the other rabbit. One minute they would be cuddling together and the next she would attack. They had come from the same pen in the pet shop aswell so I thought they would be fine. I persevered for about 4 months but eventually had to give them away (to a very good home) I had a 2 year old and was afraid of her attacking him aswell. Should have kept the other one but I was afraid she would chew through a wire and kill herself.

LittleFairywren · 14/08/2019 23:14

Rabbits make absolutely shit pets. I have no idea why they're so popular.

vampirethriller · 14/08/2019 23:18

A rabbit called Attila the Bun. He was horrible. Bit everyone, killed a guinea pig. He ate a geranium and died in the end and nobody was sorry. Poor troubled rabbit.
