Online shopping- no bags

Imustbemad00 · 12/08/2019 18:20

I like ordering my shopping from tesco, but after their recent email saying they will no longer have the option of delivering in bags, I’m considering switching which is a shame as I like my clubcard points.
I don’t know why they can’t use the bag return scheme like ocado.

How does everybody who doesn’t get bagged deliveries get their shopping in? I think I have mild anxiety in social situations, especially with strangers and my home so it’s stressing me out. The delivery driver coming through my front door is not an option. So will I leave him standing there whilst I carry what I can in, or put it in bags at the door. Will they think I’m ridiculous? It seems such a waste to stand there putting it all in bags just to take it to the kitchen and take it out again. It would also make me feel really awkward as I’d feel they were becoming impatient

Also, I’m not sure I like the idea of my shopping loose in the dirty sticky crates.

I get a laundry basket at the door and transfer the shopping from the crate to the basket on the door step. Then carry the basket to the kitchen. Quick, easy, no drama.

BikeRunSki · 12/08/2019 18:24

I’m going to unpack the crates into big Ikea bags, then carry through to my kitchen.

Madvixen · 12/08/2019 18:24

I offload everything into the hall and then put it away once the driver has gone.

PookieDo · 12/08/2019 18:24

Another one!! What is wrong with people and these plastic bags

Shopping has been in the crate not human shit

Your loose items such as fruit will be in a bag of some kind

So nothing will touch the crate that you will put into your mouth, just the packaging

They just put the crate on the doorstep and I take the items out and put them into the kitchen

You need to give your head a wobble

Allthepinkunicorns · 12/08/2019 18:26

I use two or three big bags for life and then drag them to the kitchen. It's much better for the environment.

Keepthebloodynoisedown · 12/08/2019 18:26

Driver carries it through to kitchen when I’m here. Dh puts a few bags for life by the door that he puts the shopping into.

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 12/08/2019 18:28

I carry the crate to the kitchen, offload it all on the island and then return empty create to driver who waits at door. I have a door into my kitchen though so it's not awkward leaving him standing there.

katy80 · 12/08/2019 18:28

Driver puts crates on doormat, I empty it all into hall, put it away once they've gone. Not difficult 🤷🏼‍♀️

Winegumaddict · 12/08/2019 18:29

I have a table near my front door so unload everything onto that and put it away once the driver has gone. They can't come into my house as I trap the dogs in there.

zackly · 12/08/2019 18:30

Gosh, ours has always come in crates (non-UK) and we’ve all survived.

We pay a deposit on each crate and then you give them back with the next delivery (or right away if you are fast at unpacking).

It’s really a non-issue.

I’m not meaning to sound rude OP but you’re making something out of nothing. The crates have never been dirty or sticky.

MeanMrMustardSeed · 12/08/2019 18:30

Yup, Ikea bags at the front door is the way to go. I have Waitrose but sometimes go bagless as otherwise I end up with too many bags.

Arrowfanatic · 12/08/2019 18:31

Errrrrrm, is this really an issue??

Driver drops crate inside door.
I pick up crate
Carry to kitchen
Empty on to kitchen table
Return empty crate
Repeat

And i only get a delivery once a month so its always a massive order of around 20 crates and its quick and simple.

You sound a bit precious tbh.

Sparklesocks · 12/08/2019 18:32

The shopping will be wrapped in the product’s own packaging though, it’s not touching the crate. Any loose items will be wrapped.

Agree with pp, ask them to unload into bags for life, or baskets/mini crates.

LookingAtTheLovelyTrees · 12/08/2019 18:34

Is this a joke OP? We are looming towards climate catastrophe and you are upset that Tesco won’t let you have plastic bags?

TeamUnicorn · 12/08/2019 18:35

DH carries the crate into the kitchen. I just empty out onto the floor by the door.

I had a bagged delivery at the weekend (on holiday so I like having the bags) half of it wasn't in a bag anyway.

TwoPupsandaHamster · 12/08/2019 18:35

I choose not to have my shopping delivered in plastic bags. The driver carries the crates into my kitchen. I empty the crates onto the kitchen work surfaces. Driver leaves with empty crates. I put my shopping away.

I don't see your problem. Surely everyone knows to cut down on plastic waste??

Indicative · 12/08/2019 18:36

I letbthe driver carry the crates to my kitchen and then empty onto work surfaces and he helps with he last one.

LookingAtTheLovelyTrees · 12/08/2019 18:36

Hopefully supermarkets will soon do away with all the unnecessary plastic wrapping on items such as fruit and veg too.

allthegins · 12/08/2019 18:40

I’d be the same OP. I always get bags with my delivery from Sainsburys. Makes life easier

FromageRay · 12/08/2019 18:41

I empty my crates in the kitchen and hand them back at the front door but my Mum has her driver help her empty the crates into big bags at the front door so that she can take them to the kitchen and unload at her leisure. The drivers are always very accommodating so I dont think you'll come across as weird at all 😁

OnlyLittleMissOrganised · 12/08/2019 18:43

Do they not take it into the kitchen? Sainsburys usually bring it into my kitchen and then I unpack while they bring in the next box etc. Only time that hasn't happened was when I lived in a flat.

John470322 · 12/08/2019 18:44

I get the driver to carry the crates into my kitchen, that is in a first floor flat. He or she then empties the crates onto the work surfaces in my kitchen. Easy and no forte for me. (I will happily carry up a crate to help the driver).

FiveLittlePigs · 12/08/2019 18:44

We carry the crates through to the kitchen to unpack it and then hand them back to the driver. No hassle.

SilverDragonfly1 · 12/08/2019 18:45

Laundry basket or similar is a good idea. I wouldn't want a deliveryman coming in either (nervous dog, plus I'm a slattern).

But I actually clicked because I was glancing through titles and read yours as 'Online shopping 10 dogs' and wanted to know what the issue was (50kg of dry food a week? Delivery people being scared off?)

Purpleartichoke · 12/08/2019 18:45

Part of why I get my shopping delivered is because I have trouble lifting heavy things. So carrying the crates is out. Will they carry them to the kitchen even if it is a walk? Then wait while I unpack onto the counter? Unpacking onto the entry floor also isn’t a physical option.
