Following on from a (very late-to-the-party) discussion about this year's Glasto with some friends over dinner tonight, where we all decided Lauryn Hill was an absolute let down, who is the worst performer or group you've ever seen live? Especially thinking of people you really liked who let you down here, not just "was dragged to see Take That with DSis and they were shite" Grin

If you're not much of a music fan I suppose this stretches to comedians, actors, poets...anyone who gets up on stage and does a turn.

Aha, about 10 years ago. They had a new album out and mostly played that.
Duran Duran on the other hand I have seen 5 times in the last 15 years and they have been fantastic every time.

TattiePants · 12/08/2019 09:04

RHCP for me too. The first time was at V Festival in 2003 and you could barely hear them. Saw them again at my local stadium a few years ago and the riffs went on for hours! Won’t be rushing to see them again.

Gone2far · 12/08/2019 09:04

Ernies we were at the same Elvis Costello concert and I agree with you. But he did a brilliant concert at the Academy. I think the Hippodrome is a difficult venue to perform in

Fizzpopwhizzbang · 12/08/2019 09:05

Happy Mondays about 5 years ago. They were absolutely shite.

The Pogues - I love the band but Shane McGowan was pissed out of his face, kept forgetting the words and messing up the songs, ended up being carted off the stage and someone else took over the singing. He ruined the gig. Bit of a let down considering how expensive it is to go and see them.

RockyisMYRhino · 12/08/2019 09:05

Beyoncé when she was at V Festival a few years ago was extremely disappointing. Me and my friend actually left and went and found the dance tent instead. Such a shame because I was really looking forward to seeing her!
Stereophonics however were absolutely amazing!!!

LellyMcKelly · 12/08/2019 09:06

Van Morrison in Manchester in the mid 1990s. Clearly phoning it in. Had no interest and one of his lackeys kept trying to get everyone to stand up.

The Killers and The Foo Fighters, on the other hand, were absolutely brilliant. Brandon Flowers and Dave Grohl clearly love being on stage and it’s hard not to get caught up in that passion and enthusiasm. Would definitely go to see them again.

MadisonAvenue · 12/08/2019 09:07

As much as I hate to say it, David Bowie. He didn't play many of his well known songs which was so disappointing after waiting years to see him.

Scissor Sisters. I've seen them quite a few times and even hung out with them after a show but the last time was around 10 years ago and they performed most of their new album which hadn't been released at that point and they'd messed around with the hits that they played so that they were very different to the original versions.

ThighThighOfthigh · 12/08/2019 09:07

Awful ones have been:

Jo Brand
Eddie Izzard
Van Morrison
Deep Purple
Strictly Come Dancing
Lee Evans (he tried but not my cup of tea)
The Stranglers
Paul Weller (refused to play any Jam)

Fantastic:

AC/DC (80s)
Police
OMD
Billy Ocean
XFactor when Shayne Ward won
Meat loaf

I had tickets to AC/DC with Axl Rose but didn't go i thought it would be too sad having seen them in the 80s.

TheZeppo · 12/08/2019 09:08

Bit random, but the poet Carol Ann Duffy. Beautiful poems, but I was so bored when I saw her read them aloud! Simon Armitage and Ben Zephaniah are fabulous though.

I have seen Britney and agree with everything that has been said. I feel very sorry for her though- get the distinct impression she would quite like a quiet life, but isn’t being allowed that.

Mrsjayy · 12/08/2019 09:08

Sheena Easton about a million years ago at an open air concert in Glasgow her faux US accent and rubbish screechy voice got booed and she walked off, I took Dd to see Busted (first time round) bloody god awfulShock

WhoKnewBeefStew · 12/08/2019 09:08

Manic street preachers - bloody awful

Fruityb · 12/08/2019 09:09

Oh Sarah Millican. First half good - second half did nothing but talk about her ex husband and a poem
He’d written her. It felt like we were in a therapy session. Felt like shouting “just move on would you! We’ve heard all this before!!”

Seen Bill Bailey three times and he’s been bloody brilliant each time.

PotterHead1985 · 12/08/2019 09:11

@RedForShort now I'm nosey as to which venue. As in The Point or the O2/Three arena. As you well know the difference is mental!

Enb76 · 12/08/2019 09:13

My worst was Nick Cave - but not for him, he was alright (not my cup of tea) but his audience are god-awful people.

Bests were Blur in around 1996, and I'll defend RHCP cos they were great at BDO in Sydney 2000 but not quite as good as Blink 182.

Best ever gig was Gogol Bordellos at Brixton Academy.

Nicolastuffedone · 12/08/2019 09:14

Diana Ross. 90 minutes exactly, most of which she spent off stage getting changed into another frock....what a complete waste of money!
Elton John a couple of years ago, more piano playing than singing and took him ages to get to his hit songs....never again!

Mrsjayy · 12/08/2019 09:14

@Fruityb I felt the same about Sarah Millican first half hilarious second half droned on about her 2nd husband

Steamfan · 12/08/2019 09:15

Bon Jovi in Manchester some years ago - such a let down, on the other hand - Alice Cooper, fantastic! Saw Van Halen at Birmingham, and they were brilliant. I had the misfortune to see Marti Pellow in Evita. He was beyond appalling, couldn't sing, couldn't act, and with the charisma of a block of wood.

Floralnomad · 12/08/2019 09:15

Junior Brother , he was the support act for The Proclaimers on Saturday night , I’ve never seen so many people get up and leave during a set . I can only assume that The Proclaimers were fed up of being upstaged by their support acts ( looking at you Jack Lukeman and Will Varley ) . Another memorable horrific set was by Kitten Pyramid , which was actually so bad it was funny .

Alloftheboys · 12/08/2019 09:15

Another vote for Amy Winehouse. Bestival and she was atrocious. Couldn’t even tell what song she was supposed to be singing.

KatsutheClockworkOctopus · 12/08/2019 09:17

Long time ago but Greg Proops was awful live.

Best shows were Tom Jones and Neil Diamond :)

PotterHead1985 · 12/08/2019 09:17

@OMGshefoundmeout yessss. I didn't go to the Park but I watched the set on the telly (thank god!) and dear god they were crap.

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 12/08/2019 09:17

I'm another down-point for Marilyn Manson. Saw him at Download Festival in 2009: he was lacklustre, clearly didn't want to be there, and was bored and contemptuous of his audience. So disappointing!

GreenJulie · 12/08/2019 09:18

Van Morrison. I’ve seen him twice and first time was fantastic at an Irish festival with all the old songs. Second time (when my poor dh was about to propose) he walked off the stage after 25 mins having done an upbeat version of “have I told you lately” (our song). Grumpy bugger!
In contrast Neil diamond was amazing!

PotterHead1985 · 12/08/2019 09:19

@Clangus00 Madonna at Eurovision was the most dire thing I think I have ever heard in my life. I'd rather listen to a pack of cats yowling for an hour than sit through that again. My ears were bleeding.

Yappy12 · 12/08/2019 09:21

Rod Stewart in the early 90's. Went with my sister and he'd lost almost his voice. Should have cancelled instead of trying to struggle on with a concert. Was awful and applied for refund but never got one.
