Following on from a (very late-to-the-party) discussion about this year's Glasto with some friends over dinner tonight, where we all decided Lauryn Hill was an absolute let down, who is the worst performer or group you've ever seen live? Especially thinking of people you really liked who let you down here, not just "was dragged to see Take That with DSis and they were shite" Grin

If you're not much of a music fan I suppose this stretches to comedians, actors, poets...anyone who gets up on stage and does a turn.

Surprised to see a couple of people say Rush! Saw them on their last two tours, some of the best gigs of my life IMO.

BalloonSlayer · 12/08/2019 08:42

Alltheprettyseahorses that made me laugh so much! Grin

Blinkyblonkyblimey · 12/08/2019 08:43

Went to see a production of Blithe Spirit a few years ago. Great cast - Alison Steadman, Ruthie Henshall, Robert Bathurst (all brilliant) and Hermione Norris who was just awful! Great on television, but should never set foot on stage again.

happystrummer · 12/08/2019 08:43

Bob Dylan in Hyde Park recently. He was so unintelligible you couldnt recognise any of the songs. Someone had tweeted "bloke next to me trying to Shazaam Bob Dylan to find out what he is singing" Loads of people left half way through. Didnt help him that Neil Young on the same line up had been amazing beforehand

MLMhun · 12/08/2019 08:44

Roland Gift at an 80s festival. Tried singing a load of his new stuff and practically got booed off.

Normallyalurker · 12/08/2019 08:45

@BiBiBirdie

We witnessed that Bob Geldof performance too...🤦‍♀️😲

VikVal · 12/08/2019 08:46

Funny how some of the worst performers seem to be top bands/artists.
I have been fortunate even though I went to 100s of gigs circa mid 90s to early 00s, I rarely saw anyone bad. I didn't got to that many festivals though and the time I did Tool at ozzfest I think around 2000 were trash. However, I've seen a video of one of my fave bands Opeth about five years ago and the lead singer couldn't do the growls at all from earlier albums that would've been bad, but back in the day they were a tight set and awesome live.

ImpracticalCape · 12/08/2019 08:46

@Namechangedtoprotect yes yes. That Radiohead in Victoria Park when they played all their dirgy B sides in the rain. I was FURIOUS!!!

The previous and next days set lists were basically the whole of the bends, the best bits of OK computer and In Rainbows. No idea why they subjected London to that shite!!

YoTheGinPussyOfThigh · 12/08/2019 08:48

Was trying to remember what phase David Bowie was in when saw him and he was awful. Was Tin Drum, thanks Darkly Dreaming. Oh and Morrissey was utter crap as well. Now David Bowie in 1978 at Earls Court, £2 restricted view tickets. He was fabulous, went back and saw him again couple of nights later for £2 again.

Sugarplumfairy65 · 12/08/2019 08:49

Meatloaf about 12 years ago. It was shocking. I was very disappointed

CaurnieBred · 12/08/2019 08:50

@Pinkarsedfly can only agree 're Frankie Boyle: truly awful and I fell asleep. Same for Eddie Izzard: first time we saw him he was fab. Second time I fell asleep.
David Bowie in ~1997: just played stuff from his new album that none of us knew
Depeche Mode at Crystal Palace in ~1994. A truly dire venue: sound was awful.
Slightly disappointed in latest Take That tour as it was scaled back a bit from their usual fab staging (but the band themselves were great).

jasmine1971 · 12/08/2019 08:52

1993/1994 I was working in Switzerland and went with a friend to see Lenny Kravitz. He had a cold, did about 3 tracks and then said he couldn't be arsed doing anymore and left. That was it. Absolute rubbish.

Fortunately I've had much better experiences - Gloria Estefan in the 1980s was awesome, Bobby Brown fantastic and I've had the honour and privilege of seeing George Michael several times, he was always absolutely awesome, genuinely cared about his audience too. Such a beautiful, strong voice, I really miss him.

brummiesue · 12/08/2019 08:53

Amy Winehouse at V festival about 2006/2007. Absolutely appalling, couldn't sing a note stumbled around incoherantly...an absolute state.

ShirleyPhallus · 12/08/2019 08:54

I saw Elton John and he was amazing!!

Another vote for oasis being shit, they went through all the motions but couldn’t care less about being there

Eddie Izzard I saw at a comedy gala type show and he was AWFUL. Really random, stop start ponderings with no punch line. But the thing that was really annoying was all the people at the front who were laughing, we were WHY ARE YOU LAUGHING?!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 12/08/2019 08:56

We decided he isn't actually the nice man we thought him to be.

A lot of the threads on here mention HF-W and what a total and absolutely SHIT he is.

Back on the thread
Sarah Millican - not funny, just obscenely crude. I don't mind crudityif it is hilarious, but she wasn't - just a string unfunny vulgarities delivered in a stupid voice.

I'm from the NE - we don't actually talk like that.

NameChangeNugget · 12/08/2019 08:56

Whitney Houston at Earls Court in the early 90’s. Bottled every big note and was so flat. Dreadful.

Tentomidnight · 12/08/2019 08:57

Ian Brown. Amazing musician but he cannot sing live.

And more recently, the reformed All Saints as Take That’s support act in 2017. Utterly tragic.

Ihatesundays · 12/08/2019 08:58

More votes for Reginald D Hunter and Frankie Boyle.
Saw them both in Edinburgh. Reginald was part of a mixed set and Frankie was a headliner.
Frankie could have been less bothered and we had heard every single joke on the TV already. Expensive and boring.

MardAsSnails · 12/08/2019 08:58

Also Kings of Leon, as part of the F1 post race concerts in Abu Dhabi.
Clearly didn’t want to be there, and even said at one point ‘thanks to those of you who are here to see us and not just because it’s free’ (I wouldn’t call it free, admission is part of your £400 race ticket). I wanted to see both the race and the band. Now actively dislike them due to their attitude

Whatthefunk · 12/08/2019 09:00

We saw Deep Purple, in Manchester, a few years ago and they were terrible. Such a shame, as Dh is a massive fan

Gone2far · 12/08/2019 09:00

Dylan Moran. Bristol Hippodrome. We'd seen him before in Gloucester Town Hall, a much smaller venue, and he was great. Utterly hopeless in a bigger venue.
Bill Bailey at Cheltenham Town Hall. He started slagging off the audience for being too posh to laugh. No mate, you just weren't funny, especially as we'd paid so much for tickets

GrammarTeacher · 12/08/2019 09:01

@Namechangedtoprotect I saw Radiohead in Victoria Park. They played Creep (they have all three times I've seen them) and the fab non album track Bangers and Mash. I was down the front and it was great as was support act Bat For Lashes.

1arlingtonroad · 12/08/2019 09:02

@avamiah, if you ever watch carpool carioke she even lip syncs on that

CuriousaboutSamphire · 12/08/2019 09:02

Tin Drum Do you mean Tin Machine?

Even when messing around they were fucking great...
