AIBU to ask who is the worst performer/group you've seen live?

Following on from a (very late-to-the-party) discussion about this year's Glasto with some friends over dinner tonight, where we all decided Lauryn Hill was an absolute let down, who is the worst performer or group you've ever seen live? Especially thinking of people you really liked who let you down here, not just "was dragged to see Take That with DSis and they were shite" Grin

If you're not much of a music fan I suppose this stretches to comedians, actors, poets...anyone who gets up on stage and does a turn.

I came on to say Elton John many years back at a corporate event because he just sang his songs then left, there was no audience interaction at all. Madness had been on previously, who had brought the house down so it really highlighted the difference in performance styles!

It’s always stuck in my mind because it was the first time I had experienced a performer just playing the songs then leaving however more recently I’ve seen AC/DC and ELO, both of which just played their songs and left so maybe I’m just expecting too much!?! AC/DC were at Wembley stadium and the sound quality was absolutely awful in the stadium but queuing for a drink inside and the sound was crystal clear!!

Marilyn Manson. Saw him twice at Download and was bloody terrible both times. Thought he may have been having an off day the first time so gave him another shot. Nope, dreadful!

Interesting to see a few people have had the same experience of RHCP. I remember everyone cheering for an encore, which you'd expect from the headliners of a big festival. They came back out and Kiedis said "go home you fucking wankers" in an English accent in a real 'joking, not joking' way. I just felt quite let down. They were one of my favourite bands at the time and was so excited to see them. They could have at least pretended to be happy to be there!

Clangus00 · 12/08/2019 07:42

Madonna at Eurovision this year. Appalling. She’s done and needs to realise it.
As someone else said, Deacon Blue are terrible live, far too “shouty”.

MarchionessOfCholmondeley · 12/08/2019 07:42

One last one - Emimen at Milton Keynes around 2004. I have absolutely no idea what the music was like. The crowd were wild animals - pelting very expensive, full bottles of pop around the arena. People in the crowd were getting quite seriously injured, the stewards did nothing about it. The gig should have been abandoned.

RezCowgirl · 12/08/2019 07:43

Amy Winehouse at Glasto, should have expected it really.

DeadButDelicious · 12/08/2019 07:44

We saw Tool way back when in the early 00's. Bloody boring. I do not see the fascination with them.

The comedian Andrew Lawrence was dire as well. He has since gone quite right wing as well which isn't really my sort of humour so won't be getting a second chance.

Saw Martin Daniels (Paul Daniels' son) years ago at Butlin's as part of a comedy weekend. He had to resort to taking the piss out of his father within about 2 minutes of the routine - it was embarrassing, humiliating and awful. So cringworthy. Normally, I'm the type of person who can laugh at anything, but this has always stuck in my memory as being SO bad that I'd have asked for my money back if it hadn't been part of an entire weekend. The other acts were great, in a 1980s retro kind of a way!

MothralovesGojira · 12/08/2019 07:46

Saw Paul Young as the headliner on one of those 80's tour things in the early 2000's. He was late on and so drunk that he could hardly stand, sounded so awful that he could hardly sing and groped the backing singers to boot! All of us at the front thought he was going to pass out and were trying to guess how many songs he'd get through before sliding to the floor - glad to say he made it all the way through though.

Also saw Depeche Mode in the early 90's and the support was an American rap group (can't remember who) who were booed off after 2 numbers by the audience shouting "get/f**k off we want Depeche Mode". They were quite rubbish and gave up after a few songs when the audience started chanting "DM DM DM" over and over so loudly that they gave up. They shouted at the crowd but even in the mosh pit we couldn't hear what profanities they were yelling but I don't think it was "thanks you've been a lovely crowd and have a lovely christmas".

CaptainCallisto · 12/08/2019 07:48

Travis at the Isle of Wight festival in about 2004. They were off their heads, couldn't remember the words, one of them kept giggling uncontrollably, another one threw up off the edge of the stage... My mum was nearly in tears because they were the reason we'd gone to the festival in the first place!

mintich · 12/08/2019 07:49

@johnmayersguitar was that the Oasis performance at Benicassim? It was awful!

fraxion · 12/08/2019 07:49

Tori Amos.

I saw her in 1998 she was good live way back then.

oldmum22 · 12/08/2019 07:50

We saw Eddie Izzard at Party in The Park in St Albans , a number of years ago and it was dire . I normally enjoy the humour and delivery but that night just failed. Ross Noble and Tommy Tiernan were on too and they were a scream .
Paul Young played a set after Ascot races about 10 years ago and sadly his voice had gone . He did interact with the audience which sort of made up for it .

cushioncovers · 12/08/2019 07:52

Colin Fry the medium, he was awful

BrightYellowDaffodil · 12/08/2019 07:52

Noel Fielding. Saw him at a festival - he came on to a packed tent from the previous comedian and within minutes the tent was half empty.

Fruityb · 12/08/2019 07:53

Take That on the Wonderland tour. Three was an incredible show but this one was phoned in. Totally uninspiring and dull.

LizziesTwin · 12/08/2019 07:53

Van Morrison was incredibly dull, saw him at a smallish venue & left.

U2 at Wembley with the 360* tour. We were behind the stage which wasn’t supposed to matter and the seats were £85. Really put me off them. I’d seen them a few times in the 80s and they were fab.

Popuppippa · 12/08/2019 07:54

Kings of Leon in Hyde Park. Dialing it in big time. Just couldn't be arsed.

I can't really listen to their music now as that night pissed me off so much. It was so bad that people were leaving early.

cushioncovers · 12/08/2019 07:54

We could only hear them when the wind blew in a certain direction.

fraxion · 12/08/2019 07:59

Yes awful! I'm not into that sort of stuff but went with my friend who is. Social engineering at its worst.

sm40 · 12/08/2019 08:00

Another one for RHCP at Hyde park about 2004/5. Someone forgot to
Turn the volume on. You could have a normal conversation with the person next to you. Everyone did. Couldn't hear the band!

AmateurSwami · 12/08/2019 08:02

Reginald D Hunter.
I am a massive comedy fan. Go to lots.
He did half his set due to an injury (just cancel). At the end he told a terrible disablist joke about Katie Hopkins son. It wasn't cutting edge, it wasn't pushing the boundaries. It was just hateful. It was his closing "joke". Never have I been more angry and disappointed. I literally would not cross the street to see him.

Yes, yes! I went to see him and he told a rape joke that was so far from funny I just felt nauseous. Something along the lines of just being grateful. It was horrifying

Saucery · 12/08/2019 08:02

Greg Davies at North Pier, Blackpool. Kept us waiting for 90 minutes. Apparently he or the crew hadn’t been paid - fair enough, but to hold your audience hostage rather than sort it out beforehand was arrogant and unprofessional.
It was absolutely freezing in there too (maybe they hadn’t paid the heating bill either) so by the time he came on I couldn’t have given less of a shit about his drama teaching days as I was too busy trying to get circulation back into my toes.

notso · 12/08/2019 08:05

Oasis. Saw their last performance at V festival. Shite.

Ian Brown was dire.

The Corteeners were disappointing. I'd wanted to see them for a long time but it felt really flat and the crowd was full of aggressive twats with flares (not the trousers!)
