Following on from a (very late-to-the-party) discussion about this year's Glasto with some friends over dinner tonight, where we all decided Lauryn Hill was an absolute let down, who is the worst performer or group you've ever seen live? Especially thinking of people you really liked who let you down here, not just "was dragged to see Take That with DSis and they were shite" Grin

If you're not much of a music fan I suppose this stretches to comedians, actors, poets...anyone who gets up on stage and does a turn.

Mine was Marilyn Manson too. Big Day Out festival in Perth, early 90s. He was only on his first or second song when someone threw a water bottle at him and he had a tantrum on stage then left. Apparently he then went backstage and punctured the inflatable pool they'd set up for the performers.

After he left, Hole came on and Courtney Love completely owned the stage. She was amazing.

I've also found Ross Noble hit and miss. I wouldn't pay to see him again.

SquatBetty · 12/08/2019 06:07

Pictish - that BDB/Mr Motivator tale is priceless!

The most shit performance for me has to be Oasis at a festival very early on in their career around 1994 - it was like watching five corpses nailed to a stage. Don't think I've seen a performance so completely devoid of any energy and inspiration since.

SquatBetty · 12/08/2019 06:09

FactoryEmblem - it was definitely 1996 at the Reading Festival, I know cos I was there and watched them as well! They were dreadful sadly.

AnastasiaVonBeaverhausen · 12/08/2019 06:12

Primal Scream early 00s.
I know they were having an off night as others who have seen them prior to and subsequently have said they were amazing, but they only played about 3 songs and were just really bad. I was gutted.

Kannet · 12/08/2019 06:12

Britney spear. She was so bad it was actually funny. Don't think she said two words to the audience, it was dire.

FenellaMaxwell · 12/08/2019 06:13

Girls Aloud. They were so flat it made the insides
Of your ears scrunch up.

TheMistressQuickly · 12/08/2019 06:18

Justin Beiber. Mimed all the way through and only spoke to the audience when he was promoting his expensive tatty merchandise.

Methyl · 12/08/2019 06:21

Badly Drawn Boy. Badly behaved boy, more like! Rude, surly, grumpy prick.
Jose Gonzalez was strangely devoid of any charm or presence.

AJPTaylor · 12/08/2019 06:26

Reginald D Hunter.
I am a massive comedy fan. Go to lots.
He did half his set due to an injury (just cancel). At the end he told a terrible disablist joke about Katie Hopkins son. It wasn't cutting edge, it wasn't pushing the boundaries. It was just hateful. It was his closing "joke". Never have I been more angry and disappointed. I literally would not cross the street to see him.

BurnerPhone · 12/08/2019 06:27

I've seen Ross noble 3 times, the first two he was hilarious and the last time he was absolutely dire, just all terrible sleazy nob jokes

LutherRalph1 · 12/08/2019 06:32

Recently saw Manic Street Preachers as a support act, was kind of excited but it was all just a bit meh. Quite disappointing, the biggest cheer they got was when they did a cover of Guns N' Roses

Beachcomber · 12/08/2019 06:33

Bjork was really disappointing. Wooden robotic performance and she didn't say a single word to the audience. Just came on, did her set, one song straight after the other and then left. The music was good but the whole thing was utterly devoid of personality. We were surprised as she seems to have bags of personality.

SnugglySnerd · 12/08/2019 06:34

Razorlight at a festival. They didn't perform many songs but the lead singer seemed to be very full of himself.
Also agree the the RHCP constant riffing is boring
I saw The Hives when their first album was released and the music was ok but they kept saying "We're The Hives" over and over again which was a bit odd.

CheeseFace · 12/08/2019 06:35

Echo & the Bunnymen. From cool indie band to groaning moody middle-aged man in a full-length leather matrix coat. Add in dim lighting and too many smoke machines, but it didn't hide our disappointment.

TapasForTwo · 12/08/2019 06:39

Blue, at Party in the Park in 2013 in Leeds. They were so flat.

Kraftwerk in the 1970s. They just came on stage, played and then walked off. They barely acknowledged the audience, and there was zero atmosphere. I might as well have stayed at home and listened to a record.

RedForShort · 12/08/2019 06:42

Elton John, and Metallica in Dublin (same venue). Both stand out in my mind as bad concerts. Both uninterested and lacked audience interaction.

Might have been an off day. Pretty sure it wasn't the venue. Seen several different performers there including absolutely amazing performances by Bon Jovi, The Eagles, and Bruce Springsteen.

ByeByeMissAmericanPie · 12/08/2019 06:43

@AJPTaylor Did you see Reginald D Hunter at Edinburgh last year? I agree, he was truly awful. His diction was appalling and I struggled to hear a lot of what he was saying... and I agree, the joke at the end was in exceptionally poor taste.

And I really don’t like K Hopkins AT ALL!

LadyBrienneofTarth · 12/08/2019 06:45

Saw Britney - had front row seats - took my team - all 10 of them - I lasted three songs and then I left and went to bed - never ever seen such abysmal everything - I knew she was known for lip-syncing so was prepared for that, but her dancing was horrible - she was a half a beat behind her dancers the entire time and looked like she was trying to follow them the whole time - ugh

Saw Back Street Boys in same venue and my team still rave about it being the "best night ever"

For me though the best concert ever was van Morrison in an old theatre in oxford sitting on Stage by himself with just his guitar singing "steal my heart away" - it was as if he entranced the entire theatre and took us all away to a magical land - do yourself a favor and listen to the song - best song in the history of the whole Grin

RedForShort · 12/08/2019 06:47

Oh and speaking of comedians, saw Craig Charles in the mid-90s. He got booed off stage. First joke was a rape joke and it went down hill from there.

Namechangedtoprotect · 12/08/2019 06:47

RAdio head at Victoria Park in London probably ten years ago. They just played the album rainbows but the audience (including me) wanted the earlier stuff. They played one song from the bends and the audience perked up and then it went flat again. So much money to listen to dull stuff (I don't mean radio head in general as I love their earlier albums)

NotSorry · 12/08/2019 06:50

I saw the Pretenders more than 30 years ago when their were the height of their fame - absolute rubbish. We walked out during the interval.

Was dreading seeing them again as support for Fleetwood Mac earlier this year and they were amazing! Maybe they’d had feedback 😂😂

Reythemamajedi · 12/08/2019 06:51

Jo Brand, she was so pissed, she could barely speak.

Glittertwins · 12/08/2019 06:53

Another vote for Marilyn Manson - think it was their first UK tour that they played around 1997 or so when they were a band as opposed to just him. Lousy sound, not due to the venue either, he had a hissy fit and stomped off for ages too.

sunshinesandwaves · 12/08/2019 06:55

Another vote for Lauryn Hill

Went to see her a few weeks ago at Blenheim Palace. She was an hour late on stage, spent the whole time shouting at her sound team and when you could hear her she sounded nothing like you'd remember. A massive let down.

exLtEveDallas · 12/08/2019 06:56

Radiohead on the Pyramid at Glastonbury 2003. Thom York was a sneering, obnoxious wanker. We pissed off and watched Super Furry Animals instead (and they were great!)
