Following on from a (very late-to-the-party) discussion about this year's Glasto with some friends over dinner tonight, where we all decided Lauryn Hill was an absolute let down, who is the worst performer or group you've ever seen live? Especially thinking of people you really liked who let you down here, not just "was dragged to see Take That with DSis and they were shite" Grin

If you're not much of a music fan I suppose this stretches to comedians, actors, poets...anyone who gets up on stage and does a turn.

Kanye West- knob head.
It was at wireless a few years ago. Didn’t go to see him but had the misfortune of being subjected to his self righteous rantings.
It made the news it was so bad.
So many complaints and everyone left- and I mean thousands-THOUSANDS (!) -of people just left! His whole performance was crap, everything.
Sadly for the Saturday attendees Drake couldn’t make it and they too had a dose of Kanaye. Or not, if they too left which wouldn’t surprise me.

Labrynth had been on just before and he was superb! He was lapping up every minute, cherishing the moment and loving it, the crowd hung on his every word. He should have been the headliner.

spacewitch99 · 13/08/2019 21:18

Reginald D Hunter.
Friend bought DP and I tickets for our birthdays because she knows we watch HIGNFY. And she thought we thought he was funny. It was cringingly awful.

GabsAlot · 13/08/2019 21:23

From what i saw of kanye at glastonbury im not surprised hes shit live-its all auto tuned on record clearly

user1471590586 · 13/08/2019 21:23

Xfactor live tour I went to was totally rubbish. Wasn't expecting much but I wasn't even convinced they were singing live. All the music sss pre-recorded too. Best group I have seen is Depeche Mode. Have seen them several times and the interaction with the crowd is brilliant. Also saw Natasha Bedingfield years ago in a small gig, she was great too.

Everhopeful1 · 13/08/2019 21:28

Worst - Omid Djalili, kept bumming about himself as a successful actor, piss poor material..
Best - The Monkees before the death of Davey Jones, they sang their socks off, never thought watching them on TV as a wee girl I would ever see them live!

RoyEastmannKodak · 13/08/2019 21:32

@Pieceofpurplesky. An ex took me to see Rush. They were worse than shit

So funny. I too have been dragged to see Rush in the past with xH who seemed (seems?) to live his life for them. Grin They were ancient then.. suspect they were being given oxygen therapy in the wings between sets.

My youngest DS in named after one of them —not Geddy— hmm]

ThighThighOfthigh · 13/08/2019 21:43

My sister saw Gary Glitter in the early 80s and said he was amazing.

Iron Maiden are amazing live (and not live).

justjuggling · 13/08/2019 21:47

Lee Mack

Imonlymoominafterall · 13/08/2019 21:49

Has anyone mentioned the unbelievably dismal musical Love Never Dies? Forever after known as Paint Never Dries.

Also Stones In Their Pockets. Also Westlife.

olbndansmummy · 13/08/2019 21:52

We went to one of these 80s revival shows about 20 years ago, Paul Young was the headliner absolutely site. Pissed, dropped his mike, missed his cue and slurred his words. We got up and left and one of the security blokes said to "can we take it Paul Young's on now? Nobody clears the NEC quicker than him"!
Fab ones: iron maiden, heaven 17, human league, nik Hayward, nik kershaw, kim wilde.

donutrehomer · 13/08/2019 21:58

Maisiedsisy1 it was truly shocking. It was acoustic and he was had an incredibly enthusiastic percussionist on stage with him. I was front row there was no escape.

I stand by my previous comment, sorry.

Floralnomad · 13/08/2019 22:00

I saw Howard Jones at Canterbury uni in the 80s and he was great .

nyu82 · 13/08/2019 22:01

Someone mentioned Crowded House...saw them when they were raw...late 70's in a shithole in Preston...they were totally brilliant...saw Cockney Rebel in the lost and much lamented Stadium in Liverpool...about same time...awesome...
Would love to see OMD ...worked with Andy 40 years ago...he was lovely, ambitious and a light in the dark..but don't want to be a stalker😕😕😕
would love to swap stories...am so happy he followed his dreams..

GoldenNoodle · 13/08/2019 22:02

I saw Vic Chestnutt years ago at the Union Chapel in Islington. It was so sad - he was obviously not in a good way mentally and couldn't remember the words to any of his songs. He died not long after. Breaks my heart to think of it.

RaininSummer · 13/08/2019 22:04

A Dylan Moran stand up gig. He came on late and drunk. Mumbled his way through an incoherent set for precisely one hour and then left. What a waste of seventy quid.

TanyaChix · 13/08/2019 22:05

Billy Connolly. It was right after he’d made awful comments about wishing hostage Ken Biggley would just get on with it and be murdered. He opened with a defence of his comments which went down badly and then talked about himself / moaner for about two hours without really making any effort to be funny or tell jokes. It was like we’d all gone to a book reading or something.

redcarbluecar · 13/08/2019 22:12

I saw Oasis in Perth, Australia in 1998. I think they were going through a bad patch with a lot of falling out, and some of the band had kicked off on the flight across meaning that their welcome in Oz hadn’t been warm to say the least. They weren’t terrible live but seemed disinterested and were far more ordinary than I’d hoped. I remember thinking it had been a bit of a waste of money.

CockSpadget · 13/08/2019 22:13

Saw Wet Wet Wet in 1995, not long after they'd been number 1 for chuff knows how long with Love is All Around, Marti Pellow was off his face and was continuously clearing his throat and then spitting whatever came up onto the stage. I was right at the front and it was disgusting. Can't even remember if he sang ok because I was so grossed out.
Paul Weller has been one of my heroes since I was a kid and finally went to see him at a Sherwood Forest gig a few years ago, wish I hadn't because he was so arrogant and disinterested. Didn't play any Jam tracks, and you could tell he didn't want to be there.
I'm quite surprised that people didn't enjoy Deacon Blue, seen them a couple of times and thought they were fab.
Stereophonics are always amazing.
My all time live favourites though are Shed Seven, amazing gig band, seen them several times, and booked again for December. If you get the chance, go see them!

Adreamaday · 13/08/2019 22:14

Sadly it was Bob Dylan, 8 years ago.

Mrsjayy · 13/08/2019 22:19

Marti pellow the heroin years were terrible i saw WWW around 95/6 not great

moochops · 13/08/2019 22:21

The Fall were the worst band I've ever seen live (Whitley Bay, mid-nineties) and also the best live band (or one of, anyway) at Brighton some years later.

Mutinerie · 13/08/2019 22:30

Amanda Palmer last year in Paris. I had liked her for years. The songs were OK but the talking in between the songs was so bad, she is such a bore. She was saying stuff that most 12-year-olds would say thinking it is really original and profound but by 13 or 14 be embarrassed to remember having ever said. People booed, a significant amount of people walked out, myself included. Never listened to her since without cringing.

C8H10N4O2 · 13/08/2019 22:30

The Smiths without a doubt. Appalling, arrogant, whiny, complained about the venue, the audience, didn't do the full time, took the money and ran. Thought perhaps it was a bad night but saw them pull the same stunt at another venue a few months later. I've loathed Morrisey ever since and over time I've seen little to change my views.

Dylan was appalling as a singer but was never contemptuous or arrogant to his audience.

Van Morrison - have seen him with the grumps but the music was always good.

The Smiths were just shit on every dimension.

celticprincess · 13/08/2019 22:34

Oh another one. Art Garfunkel recently. The show was done by 9pm and his son out shone him by loads. I went on a spare ticket with my mum and aunt. His singing wasn’t up to much but he is old now.

SuperSue77 · 13/08/2019 22:36

Only got as far as page 10 but I’ve seen about 5 posts saying Amy Winehouse was bad and whilst I hate to speak ill of the dead, that was my worst too. I saw her at the Ross on Wye festival in 2004 and my middle-aged mum, having heard her on Radio 2, bought tickets for her and my Dad and also me as I was staying with them for a few months. She was clearly stoned and was awful, the audience was full of people like my parents who had obviously made the same mistake, it was very cringeworthy.
