Following on from a (very late-to-the-party) discussion about this year's Glasto with some friends over dinner tonight, where we all decided Lauryn Hill was an absolute let down, who is the worst performer or group you've ever seen live? Especially thinking of people you really liked who let you down here, not just "was dragged to see Take That with DSis and they were shite" Grin

If you're not much of a music fan I suppose this stretches to comedians, actors, poets...anyone who gets up on stage and does a turn.

My husband and I go to a VW festival every year at a raceway in Northants. They have a comedy tent with some great headliners.
Sadly, on different occasions both Paul Foot and (to my surprise) Sean Hughes both completely nosedived. Both were booed off (the crowd were pretty savage) with poor Paul Foot shouting ‘my fans get my jokes’.
It was pretty cringe for both of them.
Saw Kelly Osborne support Robbie Williams...she wasn’t great...

donutrehomer · 13/08/2019 19:16

Luther Vandross 1987 or 1988 at Wembley Arena Never Too Much was the name of the tour, which was ironic really, he was only on stage for 43 minutes.

It was dire, I cried the entire way home.

LouH1981 · 13/08/2019 19:18

@AragonsGirl
...sorry, pressed send way too soon...
Interesting you say that, we saw Reginald D Hunter and also didn’t find him funny. Far too political, but we both agreed that his support Pete Johansson was hilarious!

donutrehomer · 13/08/2019 19:18

I once saw Howard Jones, it was so bad that it made the night I heard my parents have sex more bearable in comparison.

AragonsGirl · 13/08/2019 19:20

@LouH1981 my husband just thought the whole act was one big therapy session as all he did was moan about women!

LouH1981 · 13/08/2019 19:20

Just to offset my moaning...Robbie Williams always nails it, as do Take That and Michael Buble was amazing too.
Rhod Gilbert left me crying...in a good way!

donutrehomer · 13/08/2019 19:21

One Direction. Oh my, it was shocking. Support act were McBusted who were absolutely brilliant.

Smeldra · 13/08/2019 19:23

The Lightning Seeds were dreadful. As we're the band who performed with their backs to the audience thinking they were cool (think it might have been The Verve).

Neil Diamond was bloody brilliant!! He was 70 something at the time I think, and performed non stop the whole concert and was amazing. I was also one of the youngest there at nearly 40 🤣🤣🤣

FatherBuzzCagney · 13/08/2019 19:32

I saw OMD in the early 90s, beyond their peak fame and playing small venues. One of the best concerts I’ve ever been to.

I saw them in 1986 and it's probably still the best gig I've ever been to. I didn't particularly like them beforehand but have loved them ever since.

Love the fact that, from comments on this thread, Oasis were absolutely shite in every period of their existence. Grin Not exactly a great surprise, that.

Tinyandpetite · 13/08/2019 19:34

Atomic kitten at the brittania stadium-Stoke-on-Trent (any other stokeies here?) must of been 1999,it was like nails on a chalk board to my 15 year old selfs ears x

TickyTacky · 13/08/2019 19:35

Worst has to be Bullet for my Valentine in 2009. Really disappointing. Best, Disturbed (they showed up Avenged Sevenfold, who were good but not incredible) and my favourite ever would be Bastille & Tim Minchin. Bastille played at Ocean City Sounds, the drummer is from Plymouth so he was happily wearing Argyle kit, and people were lobbing plush pasties on stage. They performed a full length set and blew me away. I loved them before and I've adored them since.

pinkcardi · 13/08/2019 19:37

Spice Girls on their recent tour. We left early

Mythreefavouritethings · 13/08/2019 19:39

Another one for Radiohead, this time in Manchester. Even by Thom Yorke’s standards it was sombre, I loved the latest album and wanted to hear it live but despite this being the most recent release, they still went and played the old (obscure and weird, not OK Computer/Bends/Kid A) stuff. Cost stupid money, and he looked like he’d rather be at home in f not of the telly with a six pack. Seriously, next time you decide to generously add tour dates, make sure you can be arsed.

Mythreefavouritethings · 13/08/2019 19:41

I’ll pipe up for Oasis, going by this I must have caught them on a good night though.....

ASqueakingInTheShrubbery · 13/08/2019 19:48

Therapy - shite. Can't remember why, 20 years on, but I can remember the crushing disappointment of spending money I could ill afford on tickets to something that sucked.

Manic Street Preachers were fab when I saw them.
Levellers amazing every time.
Download this year -Whitesnake were great, just as you'd expect. Def Leppard were awesome. I've seen videos that didn't sound great, but I was there, and in real life, they're on top form. Slash/Myles Kennedy were a bit drab. Slash was everything you'd expect, but Myles, although sweet, was lacking charisma.

Lovely13 · 13/08/2019 19:48

Cats the musical. Dire. Left at interval. French and Saunders live. Just saying the word c* over and over. Lou Reed. Sang two songs, smashed stage lights and left. Don’t think he was feeling well....

bencrone03 · 13/08/2019 19:50

Has anyone paid the child maintenance services 20.00 to take up you're case for getting your children's dad to pay? He won't commuicate with me to sort something out between us

GummyGoddess · 13/08/2019 19:51

Went to see Marilyn Manson in mid 2000s, support act was someone called Peaches and she was absolutely terrible. Ended up with her throwing stuff at the crowd in annoyance and stomping off in a huff.

ASqueakingInTheShrubbery · 13/08/2019 19:56

I'm not surprised Carol Ann Duffy isn't good live. I heard her on the radio and didn't like her voice at all.
Simon Armitage is a great performer, he owns the stage.
Linton Kwesi Johnson was disappointingly arrogant. Spent a disproportionate amount of time ranting about a couple who tried to creep in quietly a few minutes late.
John Cooper Clarke is fab. Just what you'd expect of him. His support acts were great as well - Luke Wright and Toria Garbutt. I bought both their books after the gig.

BunsyGirl · 13/08/2019 19:57

Diana Ross. She was bloody awful. Ronan Keating sang at the same concert and he was brilliant! Certainly wasn’t what I was expecting!

cavalier · 13/08/2019 19:58

Would love to see Robbie
Seen bazzer manilow twice \ once at Wembley brilliant couldn’t fault him and then 02 London
Well I was so disappointed . It was freezing cold for one .. and his fans keeps jumping and whooping when they didn’t need to... bliddy irritating and Barry had just lost his sparkle or something ... my friend agreed it wasn’t his best
Neil diamond fab // Bowie amazing 1983 💕
Bette milder great but wasn’t on stage long so that sort of ruined it really and a person kept singing along to Wind beneath my Wings and totally wrecked it ..I was fuming but kept my dignity
Howard Jones was great ... Alexander O’Neil ( palladium I think of Alber hall ..performed at our local pub a couple of years ago ! what a come down ... still love hmm though
Yeah the worst The O2 gig mr manilow even though brilliant in 2002
George benson good but a lot of instrumental
Seen loads of others want to see Robbie

nyu82 · 13/08/2019 20:07

I reckon the worst 'performance ' I ever saw was Joeley Richardson in a play at the Royal Court Liverpool...one of her lines was ' I cannot act..'...the whole audience roared laughing, clapped then left,
..nothing like a scouse audience to sort the wheat from the chaff !!

Iwanttobeagranny · 13/08/2019 20:08

Not really a fan anyway but went to ‘an evening with Elton John’ at a local castle. It was supposed to be an intimate evening with songs and chat...he was in a foul mood, stomped on stage, did his set and stomped off again, not a single word spoken. Great voice and beautiful surroundings but what a knob!

Cantaffordthetherapy · 13/08/2019 20:12

Stone rose. Think it was the last gig they did (at a festival? Can't recall which) but by God they were awful and so out of tune!

ElleMac44 · 13/08/2019 20:14
