AIBU to ask who is the worst performer/group you've seen live?

Following on from a (very late-to-the-party) discussion about this year's Glasto with some friends over dinner tonight, where we all decided Lauryn Hill was an absolute let down, who is the worst performer or group you've ever seen live? Especially thinking of people you really liked who let you down here, not just "was dragged to see Take That with DSis and they were shite" Grin

If you're not much of a music fan I suppose this stretches to comedians, actors, poets...anyone who gets up on stage and does a turn.

@Elphame I saw Rammstein in Berlin and Milton Keynes, absolutely blew me away. So much so I've bought tickets to see them 3 times next year Grin

OpheliaTodd · 12/08/2019 17:53

My friend saw Jess Glynn and reckoned she was awful.

I don’t rate her voice at all - like a monotone sheep.

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 12/08/2019 17:54

@Novasglowx, that's a +1 for Rammstein from me.

I've seen them twice and can categorically say they're the best live band I've seen (and I've been to a LOT of festivals and gigs). Absolutely amazing performers.

The Death Stars, who supported them at the MEN Arena were also the only support band I can remember that wasn't keen to see leave so as to move on with the main event. They were utterly brilliant: despite the awful name!

Robbie

whatsthecraic91 · 12/08/2019 17:55

Janet Jackson at Glastonbury this year she was fucking shocking

YoTheGinPussyOfThigh · 12/08/2019 17:56

Went to Proms in the Park in 2015, Little Mix and the Jack Pack, absolutely grim. Had managed to get really good places at the front of the crowd so could even leave. The Jacksons, wonderful.

The best this year has to be Nile Rodgers and Chic. I have never seen an audience so excited and that was even before they came on.

Helped at BST in Hyde Park 2013? when Elton John had to pull out through illness. Having read comments here sounds like may have been no loss. Now Elvis Costello who was on the billing the same night night was brilliant. The Rolling Stones also were amazing.

Elphame · 12/08/2019 17:59

@novasglowx Now that is keen! I've got tickets for the Principality and really can't wait.

beaverbill · 12/08/2019 18:01

George Ezra...quite possibly the most boring concert I’ve ever been to in my life! Plus, he’s arrogant! I hated it, that and the ridiculous dad dance going on from the crowd.

I’ve seen Meatloaf many times, the first probably about 26 years ago as a child...just wow! But as each concert passed, he impressed less..naturally just ageing obviously.

Saw Rag n Bone Man as a support act for Tom Odell, he amazed everyone in the audience with the most wonderful voice and super attitude. We then went to see him on his own in Manchester and were unfortunately a little bored by him.

Recently saw Pink at Wembley...she was beyond all of my wildest dreams. A true performer! Better than my wedding night!

Skunk Anansie always put on the best shows...can’t wait to see them again on Sunday!

See you at the academy!!!(although I won't know you)

aquashiv · 12/08/2019 18:06

Oasis were utter shite. Liam can't sing at all. Struts about with that walk as if he's been electocuted up his arse
Noel was decent with Paul Weller.
Russell Brand had stopped off the stage when a pissed up woman heckled him.

DarlingNikita · 12/08/2019 18:06

I've never been to a really shit gig or seen a terrible theatre performance. I'm considering myself lucky!

Those saying Amy Winehouse just make me remember the film about her and what a terrible place she was in for so long. She was a rare talent before it went tits-up and it's just so horribly, tragically sad.

EmilyK83 · 12/08/2019 18:07

Kings of Leon at V Festival a good few years back. Don't get me wrong, there was nothing wrong with them as such...but they pretty much just sounded like the album version - nothing exciting about it!

CalamityJune · 12/08/2019 18:07

@beaverbill I saw rag and bone man and Tom Odell too!! Tom's show was one of the best gigs I've ever been to.

beaverbill · 12/08/2019 18:08

@notacooldad we could wear a red carnation so we can spot each other?
I’m hoping to strike her arm like I did in 1999!
We went a couple of years ago to see them and oh my god... just wow!

DobbyLovesSocks · 12/08/2019 18:09

I saw Ed Sheehan in Cardiff couple years ago and I was a bit 'meh'. I loved his album but he did too many of his previous songs for my liking. It was first time I'd seen anyone live

I'd love to see Pink

beaverbill · 12/08/2019 18:10

@CalamityJune I love Tom, he was brilliant when touring with Rag n Bone. But then I saw him again recently and he wasn’t as good...I kept waiting for him to really ‘start’ like he had done before but didn’t...

DarlingNikita · 12/08/2019 18:10

there are few more disappointing phrases in the English language than 'We're going to play you something from our new album'. Roll. Out. The. Hits. People.

Yep. My best gig ever was Grace Jones at Lovebox. No poncing about with new material. 'Pull Up To the Bumper'. 'My Jamaican Guy'. 'Nightclubbing'. 'La Vie En Rose'. 'Slave to the Rhythm'... Every one a winner. Plus several outfit changes and a new hat for each number.

#GraceIsGod

The Cure at BST last year - absolutely AWFUL and made worse by the fact Roger Waters put on an incredible show the night before.

Letsnotargue · 12/08/2019 18:15

Bon Jovi at Wembley in June - it just didn’t work. Jon’s voice isn’t what it used to be so they've had to change how they sing their songs. All the old hits are now melodic ballads, plodding along, but with JBJ leaping around and doing star jumps like Mick Jagger. I really wanted to love it but it just wasn’t there.

Pearl Jam last year - the original gig was cancelled so they tagged the rescheduled one onto the end of their tour. They just wanted to be at home and I’ve never seen the O2 have less atmosphere.

Ruby Wax - one of my big tickets at Edinburgh last year but she basically read a few bits off a clipboard as she pretended to interview herself, waffled on about mindfulness a bit and finished with an offensive ‘hula’ dance to Girls Just Wanna Have Fun. Ironically she was promoting her book on mental health - she really didn’t look like she was all there.

Dylan Moran - also at Edinburgh, tiny venue. He looked like he had no idea what was going on, kept repeating himself, wandering off on tangents. I think we were all glad when the hour was over. He said he’d stopped drinking and was healthier now, but he looked just the opposite. Such a shame as we had such high hopes. Hopefully it was just an off day.

Jsmith99 · 12/08/2019 18:18

At a food festival, I watched a demo by the French celebrity chef Jean-Christophe Novelli. He was pissed out of his head in the middle of the afternoon, he was incoherent, slurring his speech and swearing like a British celebrity chef. The food he cooked was crap, too. If I was paying him for that, I would be less than impressed.

IHaveBrilloHair · 12/08/2019 18:21

Oh, I saw George Ezra earlier this year and loved him, despite the dickhead behind me who'd read the set list online and kept announcing which song was coming next as if he had insider information.

Flamingo84 · 12/08/2019 18:23

Sugababes (I forget which girls were in the lineup at the time!) were the opening act for someone I went to see and were dreadful, like 3 cats all screeching at each other.

Saw Boyzone with a school friend as my first concert and they were ok, a bit forgettable.
Take That’s comeback tour was great, everyone in the audience was just really excited and it made the atmosphere amazing.
Taylor Swift was a fantastic production, lots of great staging and she did lots of little improv bits to prove she was singing live.

Would you believe I’m not a huge fan of pop music??! I just seem to get roped into pop concerts!

IHaveBrilloHair · 12/08/2019 18:23

My BF is seeing Tony Slattery at Edinburgh festival this week and I'll actually cry if he's not good, and I'm not even going.

wichitalinemanswoman · 12/08/2019 18:24

Ross Noble and Lee Mack we're both shit

wichitalinemanswoman · 12/08/2019 18:24
