Following on from a (very late-to-the-party) discussion about this year's Glasto with some friends over dinner tonight, where we all decided Lauryn Hill was an absolute let down, who is the worst performer or group you've ever seen live? Especially thinking of people you really liked who let you down here, not just "was dragged to see Take That with DSis and they were shite" Grin

If you're not much of a music fan I suppose this stretches to comedians, actors, poets...anyone who gets up on stage and does a turn.

Definitely Red Hot Chilli Peppers. I saw them headline at V Festival. The sound was awful. It was like listening to radio as you go out of range - coming back and going out. Not helped by them following the fantabulous Foo Fighters. I gave up after 10 mins and went to see Underworld instead.
Saw them again a few years later at Hampden. It was just awful. Sound quality was fine but they just riffed and riffed and riffed - yawntastic!! We stayed to the end in the vain hope it would get better. We should have left as we could have got the train home and saved £50 in a taxi Confused.
DH saw them more recently at the Isle of Wight festival and said they were awful then. I am in Singapore and they are playing at the F1 concert this year. Loads of people I know are soooooo excited. I don't have the heart to tell them.

I saw U2 the U2 360 tours and dozed off.....

Loved reading all the responses! Oasis and the RHCP crop up a lot - not a huge Chillis fan but love Oasis and am pining for a reunion; having read this maybe some things are best left in the past. Sad

Agree with PPs about Britney Spears its awful that they keep making her go up on stage.

Keep em coming!

Darren Day as Joseph was excellent and David Soul (swoon) in Blood Brothers was really good.

PolkaDotted · 12/08/2019 15:34

I'm going to go with the RHCP too, I'm afraid.

fifig87 · 12/08/2019 15:37

Saw the killers years ago at a festival, absolute shite. More recently saw George Ezra, didn't do it for me.
Best ever had to be REM again years ago!

MetalMidget · 12/08/2019 15:37

Therapy? a couple of times at festivals in the 90s. Love their albums, but they were terrible live. I should really go to see them in an indoor venue, just in case it's festivals (massive stages, outdoor etc)they don't gel with.

alibongo5 · 12/08/2019 15:37

Oh talking of Oasis, I was at their last appearance before they split and it was hysterical. Liam was in a right old strop and was swearing at Noel and the audience. The singing was ok though and it was all highly entertaining (not always for the right reasons). Oh and someone standing next to me told me off for calling Liam a tit!

Goonergirl14 · 12/08/2019 15:38

Worse for me was Rush 2011 Glasgow SECC. Bought tickets for DH as he is a huge fan, I just didn't get it, didn't help I was 8 months pregnant don't know what I was thinking! 😀 I left early and went back to our hotel to watch Eurovision featuring Jedward. DH returned later saying it was the best gig ever..fair enough..Best Tina Turner late 90's or early 2000's can't remember, at Hampden, she was amazing crowd amazing too!

diet4eva · 12/08/2019 15:43

@StitchingMoss a second vote for Ardal Ohanlon worse stand up show ever ! Saw him at the height of Father Ted fame and was very disappointed!

user1471590586 · 12/08/2019 15:50

Tom Jones. Won some tickets to see him through Sky TV and went to Hyde park. He has a good voice but you could see he was just going through the motions. There was no crowd interaction or anything.

Mrsboombastic99 · 12/08/2019 15:53

I went to see Drake a few years ago with some friends. It was so boring, there was no atmosphere at all.

LittleAndOften · 12/08/2019 15:54

Just remembered I saw Will Young at a festival. Awful. He wore a stupid high fashion outfit and moaned about it. Lots of kids had written personal banners and he didn't acknowledge the crowd once. It rained and we left as he sang "Leave Right Now". Irony!

covetingthepreciousthings · 12/08/2019 15:59

Rammstein are incredible live. You won't be disappointed.

They're on my dream list of bands to see.

MaggieMcSplash · 12/08/2019 16:00

Madonna was terrible.

TrickOrRuddyTreat · 12/08/2019 16:05

I'm going to go against the grain and say I loved RHCP! I saw the same tour as the pps who were at Murryfield (although I saw them elsewhere) and they were brill. NERD were also really good but Ash were beyond dire.

The only time I've been disappointed by a main act I chose to see was Travis - boring, no chemistry with the audience and they did that annoying sing the hits but done slightly differently thing. To make matters worse they were supported buy the Doves who were even worse!

Best is a toss up between Kings of Leon (going against the grain again!), Walk Off The Earth, ELO and David Gray.

Never seen a comedian I didn't enjoy but the best were Bill Bailey, Rhod Gilbert and Sarah Pascoe.

The Honeyz at our graduation ball in 2001. Totally timeless. All their recorded stuff must have been auto tuned, or being charitable maybe they couldn't hear each other.

WeCameToDance · 12/08/2019 16:11

I just remembered the absolute worst. I think I very nearly successfully tried to block it from my memory.
Lostprophets in Cardiff student union about 10 years ago. Obvious evil aside, what an arrogant prick. The crowd were not into it and instead of trying to fix it he decided to abuse the crowd for being rubbish Welsh people. It was awful. Horrible, horrible man.

BexIsr44 · 12/08/2019 16:11

I was so excited to see Britney Spears in Asia in 2017, but she was horrendous. She definitely didn’t sing live and half the time made zero effort to dance as well. Horrendously bad.

Lady Gaga however was amazing! Such an amazing show.

ooooohbetty · 12/08/2019 16:23

I saw Madonna in 1987 and she was great!

FutureMrsD · 12/08/2019 16:27

Bob Dylan at Hyde Park a couple weeks back
He was just awful, too old in my opinion. Couldn’t sing in time to his songs and was just a mumbled mess. Felt awful as it was DHs Christmas present.
Luckily saw Robbie a couple of Days later at Hyde Park and he made up for it!

DulciUke · 12/08/2019 16:28

Bob Dylan. I've seen him a number of times in my life and he was always good/fine, but the last time was horrendous. His voice sounded like it had been run through a cheese grater. Note that I don't expect that much from Dylan's voiceit is what it is. When I say it was horrendous, I don't mean in comparison to other singersI mean in comparison to himself in earlier performances, which should give you an idea... Imagine sitting through a two hour concert by a famed musician and not recognizing one. single. song......

FutureMrsD · 12/08/2019 16:38

@DulciUke funny how your post came directly under mine. You didn’t happen to be at Hyde Park last month also? He was just terrible!

DGRossetti · 12/08/2019 16:38

Bob Dylan

feellikeanalien · 12/08/2019 16:40

Dire Straits at the Glasgow Apollo in the 70s. There was nothing wrong with the music but it was just so boring. No interaction with t he audience. You might as well have been sitting at home listening to an album. We actually left early!

Also at the Glasgow Apollo, went to see The Damned just as punk was starting to take off. The concert was cancelled after everyone had turned up (can 't remember why) and we were given the option of a refund. My BF and I weren't that fussed so decided to get a refund and do something else instead.

We were approached by a couple who asked if we would swap our tickets in the balcony for theirs in the stalls (theirs were much more expensive than ours) since there was so much spitting from the balcony into the stalls below (that was a thing with punk fans!).

We ended up going to the cinema and having something to eat with the profit we made on the tickets!!

Worst: Back in the 80s, Wet Wet Wet were crap, crap, crap. Disappointed with Fleetwood Mac, although Lindsay Buckingham wasn't there, Stevie Nicks was there, but I don't think she was aware of anything, and just stumbled around. Such a shame because I love her. Eric Clapton, might as well have been a cardboard cut out. Brilliant: Bruce Springsteen, George Michael, The Script. Okay: Rod Stewart.
