Milka ad casting call - awful

Dippypippy1980 · 11/08/2019 10:50

I have just red the really creepy casting call for a little girl to advertise milka chocolate.

While there is lots and lots wrong with the call, I am outraged by the no red hair. I have red hair, so does my daughter. We will now be boycotting* this product.

But it has got me wondering, why are unkind comments about red heads still a thing? I endured nasty comments through my childhood, and within the last decade distance myself from a friend who was making nasty comments about a friends baby with red hair. What the hell is wrong with people.

Why do people who would be (quite rightly) outraged by comments about skin colour think it’s okay to target people because of hair colour?

Sorry, just noticed my post up there is a bit of a nonsense. What I meant to say was:

If this is "nothing" for this industry, it is a very good thing that it has been publicised, because that is not an acceptable way for any industry to conduct itself.

MiniMum97 · 13/08/2019 17:25

That just sounds like the sort of thing that people in marketing come up with. Have you ever read a brand document. It's full of that sort of shit!

Newgirls · 13/08/2019 18:53

I will say on ads and things it is very tightly regulated with chaperones (mostly a parent) at all times, separate looks for kids, visits from welfare officers. And rightly so thank heavens.

Newgirls · 13/08/2019 18:53

Loos not looks!

HalloumiGus · 13/08/2019 19:53

Utterly creepy ad. It sounds like it was written by a flasher.

HalloumiGus · 13/08/2019 19:57

Reading more of thread the translation thing would make sense being charitable about it!

Dieu · 13/08/2019 20:06

They don't want a child, they want a living doll!

Kaddm · 13/08/2019 20:18

I agree not on to say no red hair.

Could have put:

Mia is a small girl with brown hair and brown eyes.

Then it would be kind of obvious what look they were after without writing the weird shit about red hair and puberty.

The ad is bizarre anyway, badly written with repetitions and offence clearly caused.

Sorry if the no red hair thing offends but it is very common as red hair isn’t typical in a lot of countries and casting is done to look as much like the general population as possible.

TatianaLarina · 14/08/2019 13:56

Red hair is typical in this country though as is gingerism.

Hithere12 · 15/08/2019 09:42

No. I write job adverts for a living. I work in Recruitment and it stands out to me as disturbing and like he’s getting off on it. I also know that industry attracts pedophiles as it gives them access to kids.

BizzzzyBee · 15/08/2019 09:51

Acting and modelling are industries where people are permitted to discriminate on appearance. They’re allowed to say whether they want male/female, black/white, tall/short, slim/fat, red/brown hair for a particular role or job. That’s the nature of the industry and the law recognises that. If you don’t like it then don’t work in that industry.

randomsabreuse · 15/08/2019 09:51

Reads a bit Google translate from German, probably Swiss German from the word order.

My DD is a redhead. Very distinctive look, with ringlets that look like something out of a Jane Austen adaptation, would clearly not fit a Heidi type brief!

Hithere12 · 15/08/2019 09:57

BizzzzyBee

Oh my god. I feel like you’re being deliberately obtuse. To mention the looks once/twice is fine but if you READ the ad it’s done almost a dozen times are is beyond creepy the guy is so obviously getting off on it. I just can’t. Some people are so naive about the world.

DieBabySharkDie · 15/08/2019 10:08

The way the ad is written is definitely kinda weird - if it’s written by a man, it’s fucking creepy! But it could easily have been written by a woman with a clear sense of what they need. That’s what casting ads are like for adults too. It could even have been google translated from *wherever milka is from!
Other than that, I wouldn’t take offence over the no red hair. That’s like people saying “no red head females” when casting the lead for the new superman movie! It just doesn’t fit with the vision they have! Or anyone else in the superman movie example actually!
It could also be that they have the parents already for the advert and one is mixed race and the other is white with dark hair and dark eyes - unlikely they would have a red head child!!! Not impossible, just unlikely (for those about to send proof that it happens!!).

JemimaPuddlePeacock · 15/08/2019 11:11

But it could easily have been written by a woman with a clear sense of what they need.

If she has a clear sense of what they need she’s failed at conveying it. Can be any hair or eye colour but must have brown eyes and no red hair. Must be eleven or under but if twelve must look younger. It’s appallingly written. I’m more concerned that a supposed industry professional could okay an ad like that to go out than I am the content!

drspouse · 15/08/2019 11:24

They way I have read it, is that perhaps it was written in another language (German?) and has been translated badly.
I thought that, but it is also REALLY REALLY creepy.

TheFlis12345 · 15/08/2019 11:27

@TatianaLarina

“Red hair is typical in this country though as is gingerism”

You don’t know it is an ad for use in the UK though! It could be for anywhere. Ads for all different markets are made by UK agencies.

Also just a reminder that it was actually written by a woman, not a man.

AmateurSwami · 15/08/2019 11:29

That is the creepiest fucking thing I’ve ever seen 🤮

AmateurSwami · 15/08/2019 11:30

I also hate the “no red hair” thing.

TatianaLarina · 15/08/2019 11:36

The ad was in Spotlight U.K.

CruCru · 15/08/2019 11:40

I don’t like the way this was written. However, by being so descriptive, perhaps they are doing people a favour? Children may have to queue for hours to be seen and then 90% will be looked up and down once and get a “No”.

Turning up with a child with red hair or blue eyes, or one who is on the brink of puberty, will be pointless. It’s easier if this is made absolutely clear right away.

I bet a load of kids who don’t fulfill what their looking for still turn up though.

CruCru · 15/08/2019 11:41

Sorry, “don’t fulfill what they’re looking for”.

LovelyIssues · 16/08/2019 09:25

V creepy. But child modelling is mainly them being based on their looks and often sexualised
