Biggest Shithole in the UK

Am retiring soon so want to relocate away from the rat race but everywhere I consider away from the Home Counties seems to be regarded as a dump. Money goes further away from the SE, I thought about Norfolk which is within reasonable distance of civilisation but my friends think that it is backwards/racist. Is it true that Lincs/Cambs/Norfolk is best avoided. AIBU to move?

No, London is full of normal people trying to survive, like everywhere else.

Skyejuly · 13/08/2019 07:11

Suffolk is perfect.

hardrainsgonnafall · 13/08/2019 07:17

When they put the high speed rail links into Norfolk (planned 2025 though this has been moved before) Norfolk property will zoom up in price. It’s the place to buy for investment. Move to Norfolk, the queens favourite county. If you don’t like it, move in five years and make a profit.

Shittiest place in the U.K.! Wirral.

Nextphonewontbesamsung · 13/08/2019 07:32

"I think London has more than its fair share of twats" what makes you say that? @clucky3.

MargotMoon · 13/08/2019 07:37

Where do you live that's so fucking special, OP? Confused

Kaddm · 13/08/2019 07:49

Having lived in the Home Counties, I can promise you that the only thing they have over the rest of the country is their ability to consume your money!

MrsKittyFane1 · 13/08/2019 08:11

The whole of Derbyshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire, The Cotswolds and Yorkshire are horrific OP.
You must stay where you are.
Absolutely without a doubt.
Oh, Wales and Scotland are pretty poor too... and Cornwall, Cheshire....

MrsKittyFane1 · 13/08/2019 08:14

Who moved Burnley to Yorkshire and when? We need to be told .....

GrinGrinGrin

BBOA · 13/08/2019 08:46

You had better stay where you are then! However, your friends might find Bath and the surrounding villages and towns acceptable Wink

winniestone37 · 13/08/2019 09:33

It's weird you talk about bigotry then make a bigoted statement. What a narrow minded, supercillious point of view.

TheSandman · 13/08/2019 09:51

No, London is full of normal people trying to survive, like everywhere else.

There I think you have it. "Trying to Survive". Most people I know aren't 'trying to survive', they are trying (and sometimes succeeding to varying degrees) to be happy, to be good people, good neighbours.

'Trying to survive' is what you do in hostile environments: deserts, jungles, war zones.

Why would anyone choose to live in a place where 'trying to survive' was the priority is a mystery to me.

MadameFireweed · 13/08/2019 10:06

I'm shocked by how many people don't seem to know that:
'Step foot' is wrong. Set foot is right.
'Backwoods' does not mean backwards.
And 'backwards' does not mean backward.
'Should of' is wrong. Should have is right.
'Would of' is wrong. Would have is right.
'Could of' is wrong. Could have is right.
'Chest of draws' is wrong. Chest of drawers is right.
And there are so many more ...... but I'll shut up now. Smile

Holidayquestion1 · 13/08/2019 10:09

By trying to survive I meant on low wages, I didn’t mean that London is like a war zone.

And we are here because it is our home, we work here and our dc go to school here. In the same way that people are in other places.

Not only that, a lot of us actively like a lot of things about London, believe it or not!

Teacher22 · 13/08/2019 14:02

"Shittiest place in the U.K.! Wirral"

Have you been to Slough?

Rubicon80 · 13/08/2019 14:33

@TheSandman
There are decent people everywhere, no one place is full of twats only.

(apart from London)

Yes, all 10 million people, of 270 nationalities, speaking 300 different languages, working in every imaginable industry and job and generally mingling pretty easily, happily and smoothly with each other, in the most culturally and ethnically diverse city in the world.

Every single one of them is a twat.

I realise this was meant to be a deliberately goady post, but I wonder if you realise quite how stupid it sounds.

Hearthside · 13/08/2019 14:40

"Shittiest place in the UK the Wirral. Whatever ,my son lives in the wirral and some friends and i actually think it is a nice area to live .

I KNEW I should have put a smiley on the end of it.

Oh I see, your subsequent post about how you can't understand why anyone would live in London was also a complete wind-up, was it?

HariboLectar · 13/08/2019 15:06

Lincolnshire is awful OP - you definitely wouldn't like it here, and apparently the whole county is flat Hmm

Anyway better go, I think my allocated time on tinterweb is nearly up and Fred from the farm will be grumpy if I run into his slot.

LadyCarolinePooterVonThigh · 13/08/2019 15:12

Agreed haribo, it's like one big marsh as far as the eye can see! I usually sleep in an old crate because I am a shoeless peasant.

TheSandman · 13/08/2019 15:31

No, I think the place is a godawful shithole and I never want to go back there in my life.

Rubicon80 · 13/08/2019 15:36

I'm sorry that you don't like any of the 270 nationalities of people who live here, or any of the 10 million individuals, and that you also don't enjoy art, theatre, dance, music, sport, shopping, fashion, history, monuments, architecture, design, food, drink, politics, royalty, commerce, science, technology, academia, medicine, rivers, parks, bridges, cathedrals, churches, synagogues, mosques, temples, wildlife, or any of the other infinite variety of diversions that can be found here.

It must be terribly disappointing.

Where do you live, by the way?

WatchingTVagain · 13/08/2019 15:42

I live in South Northumberland/North Tyneside and areas like Whitley Bay and Tynemouth are INCREDIBLY desirable. We have seen a huge increase in the amount of retired couples moving up here from down south, to benefit from the glorious scenery, friendly people, excellent hospitals yet much cheaper housing. We actually sold our house to cash buyers from London who were doing the same as you. Northumberland and Newcastle are super places to live. Areas like those mentioned above, or more urban areas such as Gosforth, Jesmond or Cleadon are worth a look. Northern cities/counties are definitely not dumps. Education in North Tyneside is amongst the best in the county, the history and heritage up here is unrivalled too and hospitals such as the RVI are groundbreaking. Love where I live.

^^
This.
I live along the Tyne valley and there are some lovely villages and very sought after areas. Try googling houses in Stocksfield.

kazzy1988 · 13/08/2019 15:44

I thinkYabvu. I live in cromer on the North norfolk coast. We certainly aren't backwards or racist. It can be hard getting out of the county as no motorways but the trains are pretty good. Regular service to London and Cambridge and to Peterborough which then you can get to most places from there.
