To just be a total sloth today?

Blankspace4 · 10/08/2019 11:55

Weather is horrible outside and I’ve had a pretty crappy week including some news yesterday which has left me feeling pretty down.

DH is out all day. No kids so I’ve got a day to myself with no plans. I would usually force myself to do something - go to the gym, arrange to meet a friend, or at least get on with something practical in the house or garden.

Today I feel like staying in my PJs and doing nothing at all. NOTHING. There’s a whole list of jobs that need doing but I just want to lie in bed, watch Netflix, read a book.

AIBU to do this or am I just wasting a day? Who else has a sloth day like this from time to time?

I think we all need a day like this now & again! Do it. As long as you won't feel worse for it like I do at times x

Lovemenorca · 10/08/2019 11:59

If that’s what you feel like, sure

I find though that I enjoy relaxing and chilling out if I’ve at least done something. So I’ve got a child free day today too (with their dad). I have been for a run, going to do some errands in town, some laundry when home

And then....

Park bottom on sofa and remain there.

Lovemenorca · 10/08/2019 11:59

Maybe set yourself challenge if ticking off 2 things from your to do list

Then you’ll feel you’ve earned a sloth day!

MrsKittyFane1 · 10/08/2019 12:02

Still in bed here.
Might go and eat toast in a minute.

Mrsjayy · 10/08/2019 12:07

Just dslobby days are now called self care days Smile it is fine to just take care of you, watch your Tv and read your book you don't need to be doing anything else

Blankspace4 · 10/08/2019 12:20

@Lovemenorca that’s a good idea. I know I shouldn’t have to ‘earn’ it but the nagging feeling in me that I’m being useless and pathetic will be quieted if I do a couple of jobs - laundry maybe (which I always find quietly therapeutic)

I definitely don’t want to leave the house or engage with the world today (aside from mumsnet, perhaps - but mumsnet can’t see me or judge my old tracksuit bottoms and unwashed hair!!!)

@MrsKittyFane1 mmmm buttery toast.... I haven’t eaten yet either. Christ, it’s gone midday!!

YANBU

Taking time for yourself IS doing something productive IMO. Enjoy it!

scaryteacher · 10/08/2019 12:25

I did it yesterday. I am in the middle of sorting and packing a 5 bed house on my tod as dh is working, to move back to the UK in 2 months, and I am shattered. I am packing because a fully packed move here seems to mean I pack all the non breakables, and the movers pack the rest.

I am feeling much better today and have more energy to do things. I did have company, as Freud said 'Time spent with a cat is never wasted' and my two were curled up with me.

ohtheholidays · 10/08/2019 12:29

I am in full on sloth mode today!

I also have most probably 101 things that I should be doing but I have the period from hell(sorry TMI I'm sure),so I'm laying in bed in my pj's binge watching Orange is the new black.

I have 4 of my 5DC here but thanks to my lovely and amazing husband I've had some breakfast in bed and I've been pretty much left alone to slob. Smile

FiveLittlePigs · 10/08/2019 12:31

I've moved from bed to dining table to sofa. Grin

Croquembou · 10/08/2019 12:33

Here is the best poem to justify a lazy day. Surely if it's ok in poetry, it's ok in life?

Rain
Woke up this morning with
a terrific urge to lie in bed all day
and read. Fought against it for a minute.

Then looked out the window at the rain.
And gave over. Put myself entirely
in the keep of this rainy morning.

Would I live my life over again?
Make the same unforgivable mistakes?
Yes, given half a chance. Yes.

drunkenflamingo2 · 10/08/2019 12:35

We're doing the same here. Its dreadful weather, we're tired and really nothing needs doing. Even DS (toddler) is just chilling out. Essential to life I think.

userxx · 10/08/2019 12:38

I'm having a sloth day too. Feel quite ill and really can't be arsed, loads to do but just can't be bothered. I'm watching keeping faith on iPlayer.

TroysMammy · 10/08/2019 12:39

I haven't even showered, washed my hair or cleaned my teeth today. I'm mooching around probably stinking to high heaven. What's the betting my sister and niece will call around unannounced later? I'm going to do the MN thing and not answer the door Grin

MrsKittyFane1 · 10/08/2019 12:40

Mrsjayy

Self care days ? I like that!

Blankspace4 · 10/08/2019 12:45

@Croquembou I like that!!

I’ve now also had some toast, brushed teeth (but not hair Grin) sprayed some deodorant (but sod showering!) and got changed into some comfy brushed cotton loungers....bliss!

Load of laundry is on. I intend to read the Saturday paper (pretty much) cover to cover now. And I have two cats with me too!

I am doing exactly the same thing. I have just been reading for three hours, some of it in the bath, I am washing the towels and eating chocolate. Sadly I have to go out at 3 to meet a friend and have a social event tonight but I am really in a go slow lazy mood which is very rare for me.

MrsMozartMkII · 10/08/2019 13:26

I'll join you, figuratively speaking, at least for half the day as have already suffered the dogs, done the laundry, and been to Sainsbugs. Have put away the cold stuff, had a snackette lunch, and now am lying on my bed watching a Lewis.

Will wobble down shortly and resume the prone position, on the sofa this time, to watch a film with DH.

OliveToboogie · 10/08/2019 13:30

Totally go for it. Nothing wrong with recharging and having a duvet day. Enjoy x

YouDoYou18 · 10/08/2019 14:30

I’m currently lying in a blanket fort with my 1 year old even though I know stuff needs doing... I’m tired and it’ll all still be there tomorrow

Blankspace4 · 10/08/2019 14:32

Paper reading proved strenuous, so just headed up for a Calm meditation session and a nap

I too, am sloth.

No reason! Lovely DP has been up since 9, pottering and is now running repairs on my car. I've snoozed, read, had a coffee and marmite toast, snoozed, read and now mooched downstairs to read some more. Joggers and a brewery t shirt that's huge and comfy, unbrushed hair - it's it's a strong look!!

Whattodo20192 · 10/08/2019 14:41

I agree with @Lovemenorca

I'm also feeling like that today which is very unusual for me so I took the dc's out for breakfast, did a few errands when I was out and picked up some dinner.

I'm now back at home in my pyjamas and will be for the rest of the day. I nearly wanted a glass of wine when I got home at one o clock but i settled for a strong coffee.

Surfingtheweb · 10/08/2019 14:53

I'm in full on sloth mode!! Had a shower and put on some comfy leggings and t shirt & nice perfume, blow dried my hair (no makeup) & I'm chilling on the sofa with a glass of red wine and MN 😀 House all to myself. DH did hoover the house before he went to football and I tidied up the kitchen. So now a day of bliss all to myself. I should actually be at a concert tonight, have paid for tix & a hotel, friend cancelled last min, could have gone with another friend but decided I am too tired and need an R&R day. I don't think anyone should ever feel bad for taking a day off, even me that's just wasted nearly over £200 by not going to the concert 😀

Booksandwine80 · 10/08/2019 14:55

Do it! (I hope you have Wink)
