Been saving for a cheap UK break.
Boyfriend said he was going to sort it as a surprise.
It was a surprise all right.
He has booked a caravan park (park dene resorts) less than 10 minutes from our house for a week.
Now it's not the fact it's a caravan,I enjoy a little caravan trip ...but 10 mins from our house...what is the point.
Nothing new to explore,or towns close by to visit that we don't go to all the time.
It's cost £409 for a week (well Monday to Friday )
Would you be a bit miffed ?

Is he low IQ ? I mean, seriously.

LadyRannaldini · 09/08/2019 08:38

Are you sure it's not one of those Wowcher deals with Park Dean, they're nowhere near that price!

Doubleraspberry · 09/08/2019 08:39

I am interested in all the people saying ‘you could just pop home to shower/relax’etc. This would make me truly miserable. Once I was in my own house I’d reassume all my usual stress - open bills post, cats would need feeding, kitchen look scruffy etc.

Hopefully you can swap sites. Lots of people on here seem perplexed by how much it’s cost - has the full amount gone on the booking? You know your husband so that might be a bizarre question, but maybe not.

More than anything, I hope you end up having a really lovely holiday.

Lifeisgood1 · 09/08/2019 08:39

If it's a parkdean resort can you not ask to transfer your booking to a different resort?

OxanaVorontsova · 09/08/2019 08:43

Pretty sure it doesn’t cost £400 for 4 nights at crimdon! Love the beach there but wouldn’t choose to holiday so close to home.

Bugsymalonemumof2 · 09/08/2019 08:46

Oh wow how stupid 😂

Topsecretidentity · 09/08/2019 08:47

Sorry OP but this is so funny (not for you though I'm sure). Hope they let you change the location otherwise what a pointless waste of money.

Longdistance · 09/08/2019 08:51

Hmm, I’m beginning to think he’s either booked something else for that price or pocketed some of the money Hmm

Troels · 09/08/2019 08:58

I took my kids camping 10 minutes from home, it was our first time camping. It was still lots of fun, the campground was one with no utilities and on a lake, not availible to locals on foot. When we ran out of food we drove to the Chinese buffet in our village and ate. I'm happy to say we didn't bump into friends as we stunk like a campfire. They had a brilliant time and I learned I'm not a camper and won't be doing it again.
I hope your Dp is just kidding and ha really booked somewhere you haven't been before, further away.

YourVagesty · 09/08/2019 09:03

I'd be so fucked off.

I've literally paid £500 for flights and accommodation (nice too) in Lisbon for a week, so £400 for ten minutes down the road...

Have you asked him wtf was going through his brain?

Lemonlady22 · 09/08/2019 09:05

im going to Ibiza for 4 nights for less than that...cheap flight, cheap room,...look it up, book it up, and go, leave him to his caravan (i go by myself sometimes its great)

twilightcafe · 09/08/2019 09:05

I've been to local campsites with friends and their kids for a weekend. We can all sit around, relax and have a drink without worrying about taxis home and babysitters. Plus local takeaway places deliver Grin.

I've even taken the caravan to local sites for a weekend with DC and DH. Added bonus of being able to go home to use your own loo/bathroom and pick up anything you've forgotten.

But for a week? And costing £400? No way.
YANBU.

FrameyMcFrame · 09/08/2019 09:17

Dear me!

Ring them and get it changed.

DennisSkinnersMolotov · 09/08/2019 09:18

@yesnomaybes I'm in Billingham, want to come and camp in my garden for free?
Even if he'd booked somewhere like The Dales or The Lakes or Whitby (all within 90 mins) it would have felt like a break ay but Crimdon Dene?!?! WTF was he thinking. It's not even got the attraction of Seaton.

BlueSkiesLies · 09/08/2019 09:19

What a waste of money! To stay in worse accommodation, in the same location as your actual home! Its so bad its funny.

OtraCosaMariposa · 09/08/2019 09:20

What a numpty. Hopefully when you speak to the company and do the "what is he like, what person in their right mind books a holiday so close to home" the company will see the ridiculous side and allow you a swap.

Fingers crossed for you OP.

OoohOnly90CaloriesIllhave10 · 09/08/2019 09:25

Following. I need to find out if he's winding you up!

Ikeameatballs · 09/08/2019 09:37

Have you given them a call yet?

I8toys · 09/08/2019 09:38

LTB!

simplekindoflife · 09/08/2019 09:39

He can't be serious?! Surely he's winding you up?!

That's really expensive as well, you could've done something really lovely for all that money: weekend city break, luxury spa weekend, theatre and hotel stay, etc.

I love a caravan holiday but I'd be gutted to be spending all that money on that... Shock

Boots20 · 09/08/2019 09:45

Imagine running into someone you know, hey any holidays planned this year 'oh I'm actually on my holidays right now as we speak'

Topsecretidentity · 09/08/2019 09:47

@Boots20 😂😂😂

Hahaha88 · 09/08/2019 09:48

I'd tell him to go, refund me my half and if enjoy a week alone in the house! I mean seriously, even without a car to get somewhere further away I'd never holidayed that bloody close to my house. It's insanity. I think my oh drives further to work each day than you're going on holiday!!

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 09/08/2019 09:49

Another one questioning his IQ. Seriously.

He doesn't seem to understand the basic concept of a holiday.

Benjispruce · 09/08/2019 09:50

Very strange and yes a complete waste of £400. Could have stayed at home and had several days out with that!
