Been saving for a cheap UK break.
Boyfriend said he was going to sort it as a surprise.
It was a surprise all right.
He has booked a caravan park (park dene resorts) less than 10 minutes from our house for a week.
Now it's not the fact it's a caravan,I enjoy a little caravan trip ...but 10 mins from our house...what is the point.
Nothing new to explore,or towns close by to visit that we don't go to all the time.
It's cost £409 for a week (well Monday to Friday )
Would you be a bit miffed ?

Bloody hell what was he thinking? I'd be furious.

yesnomaybes · 08/08/2019 23:00

We once did 5 days in Scarborough and it was lovely, sure it was haven.
We went into Whitby then Scarborough,York etc then the nights in the entertainment bit.
That was enjoyable.
This is just a bit ......crap.

Can't he ring them up and plead stupidity and beg to transfer it to another parkdene site? I wouldn't go otherwise. What's the point?

Expressedways · 08/08/2019 23:01

I wouldn’t go. Why stay in a caravan that’s less nice than your house if it’s in the same bloody area?!

PandaAtTheZoo · 08/08/2019 23:02

What a complete waste of money. You can't go anywhere new and you are basically just staying in worse accommodation for a week

IggyAce · 08/08/2019 23:02

Omg just why, I’m not far from you OP and that’s just grim. I hope it’s a joke otherwise he would be an Ex before the end of this “holiday”.

TrickyKid · 08/08/2019 23:02

Yeah, id be annoyed and I'm quite happy going camping an hour away from home. 10 mins away for £400 is a waste of money.

Rivkka · 08/08/2019 23:02

Miffed? I wouldn't fucking go.

Change it tomorrow

RomaineCalm · 08/08/2019 23:03

If there really is nothing you can do to move the booking I'd start researching all of the places that you could visit as 'tourists' that you haven't been to before and look at making the best of it.

It's often true that we don't visit the places that are on our doorstep - now's your time to do it. Plan some days and meals out, make the most of the entertainment on site, and try to enjoy it.

One day you might laugh at your 'staycation' and at least if you forget the corkscrew you won't have to go far to get it Smile

Rubbinghimsweetly2 · 08/08/2019 23:03

Are they a chain of camp sites? Maybe you could transfer to a different site?

yesnomaybes · 08/08/2019 23:04

I'm going to ring up tomorrow instead of him,I don't trust him to not make another mess.
if not he can take a friend.

I'm from just outside Durham, Crimdon is lovely but not really a holiday when youre 10 mins away from home Confused

ZenNudist · 08/08/2019 23:04

Wow

gamerchick · 08/08/2019 23:04

Why are you going OP? There's absolutely no point.

Tell him he's going on his own or this shit will keep happening.

yesnomaybes · 08/08/2019 23:06

@Dmacka75 we are down the beach every weekend,it's lovely in the sunshine but it's like anywhere when your local ..ha ha

OP posts:
Applejack5 · 08/08/2019 23:06

How ridiculous! They won't let you transfer it to another holiday park? What a massive waste of money. I wouldn't bother going.

Hope you manage to exchange it or something!

yesnomaybes · 08/08/2019 23:06

@gamerchick I really don't want to go.
I'm going to call and ask to swap sites as it's non refundable.

OP posts:
KayDog · 08/08/2019 23:08

I can get on board with a 'staycation' that involves staying somewhere really fancy with amazing room service/pool etc or doing a spa break but a caravan ten minutes down the road? Nope!!!!

Twofurrycatsagain · 08/08/2019 23:08

That's.......bizarre. I've no objection to a caravan somewhere new. Or a hotel 10 mins away (with pool, spa etc). But not a caravan 10 mins away. I hope you can swap!

yesnomaybes · 08/08/2019 23:08

They have so many parks all over the country too ...my mind is baffled by his choice.

OP posts:
Nirvana1979 · 08/08/2019 23:08

Thats so crap, hope you can manage to change it. I wouldny go, having to pack to go 5 minutes down the road,no thanks.

SexFarmWoman · 08/08/2019 23:08

Well at least if you forget something you can nip back and get it Smile

yesnomaybes · 08/08/2019 23:09

If anyone knows the area even two nights at Seaham hall or Ramside in Durham would have been better.

OP posts:
Zaphodsotherhead · 08/08/2019 23:10

Is he generally a bit of a dick?

It sounds like he's such a cheapskate that he's counting on you being delighted that you don't have to drive anywhere to get on holiday, without taking into account that it's supposed to be a holiday.

I bet you're going to end up doing all the cooking and cleaning? You might as well have stayed at home and just taken day trips out, £400 would buy you quite a lot of rather nice day trips!

ErrolTheDragon · 08/08/2019 23:10

Hope they let you swap - they should, I'm sure it will provide them with much entertainment.
