My sister had her baby a couple of months ago. He had a fever, tested for bacteria but no bacteria grew so it was ruled. My elimination process it had to be a a virus... To which her anwer was... "But I thought breast milk gave the baby all viral antibodies!" I almost wanted to strangle her... Obviously you only pass the ones you're immune to! AIBU to think she should know this? Especially considering she's not dumb as she has a PhD in criminal law??

Best why op is not to talk to your sister at all. She is better off without you and she you.

Proseccoinamug · 08/08/2019 18:56

www.parents.com/baby/all-about-babies/amazing-viral-photo-shows-how-breastmilk-changes-for-babys-needs/

There’s a simple article. You need to google ‘breastfeeding backwash’ or ‘baby saliva backwash’ if you want to find scientific articles that are referenced.

Butchyrestingface · 08/08/2019 19:02

I actually just replied with a "not necessarily" and linked her to that NHS article. We don't talk at all as well we can't stand each other on the best of days.

Never mind that. You should link her to this thread. She’d probably find the support quite heartening. Grin

Does your sister have a better paid/more prestigious job/more affluent lifestyle than you, @Rainbowhairdontcare? I am sensing a touch of Ye Olde Chip on Shoulder...

@happygoluckymeXD, did you mean to post that in a new thread?

iMatter · 08/08/2019 19:11

Maybe try supporting her rather than coming on to MN to start a pointless thread bitching about her?

happygoluckymeXD · 08/08/2019 19:14

I did yes! not sure how to remove now 😊 oops!

Butchyrestingface · 08/08/2019 19:16

Just report it a misplaced post and ask MN to remove. Smile

riotlady · 08/08/2019 19:16

It’s not even a funny mistake?

ethelfleda · 08/08/2019 19:17

I have a feeling this thread may get pulled for “being outing

I completely agree! But then what do I know, I do not have a PhD. I don’t even have a degree so I pretty much know fuck all.

Butchyrestingface · 08/08/2019 19:21

Well, OP has gone MIA. Usually a sign.

SinglePringle · 08/08/2019 19:22

Here’s the thing @rainbowhairdontcare ... you didn’t know it till you knew it. There was an actual point when you didn’t know the information you know now.

Imagine that.

DrPeppersPhD · 08/08/2019 19:23

Your sister's mistake is totally understandable and you sound like a condescending, no-it-all bitch. HTH.

DrPeppersPhD · 08/08/2019 19:23

*know-it-all
Guess that kind of undermines my statement Grin

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 08/08/2019 19:24

What a mean post.

TinyMystery · 08/08/2019 19:24

www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/9892025/

One of myriad studies into the immune boosting benefits of breast milk. I’m not really sure why you have a high and mighty attitude when you are basically wrong.

PickAChew · 08/08/2019 19:25

So she's a lawyer, not a scientist.

dudsville · 08/08/2019 19:25

Jealous? Knowledge at a high level odd one area is not equal tp knowledge assay a high level of all areas.

Ginger1982 · 08/08/2019 19:28

You sound a bit jealous of her credentials.
And what a massive drip feed...

FuzzyOwl · 08/08/2019 19:31

OP, try to look at this from this perspective - those tests and concern will have meant they will have told your sister they suspected sepsis and were treating her baby for that. That’s an awful thing for any parent to go through and something they need support over, especially when the mother is your own sister. You might not have a good relationship but be kind here and the bigger person - that’s much more important than knowing the ins and outs of what breastmilk does.

Parrotsarebadbad · 08/08/2019 19:33

Bloody hell... you obvs. don't like hate your sister.

Odd of you to specify your, your ds's and your dm's professions. Quite outing, why would you do that?

IamtheOA · 08/08/2019 19:34

Hang on.... even your Mum, a HISTORIAN knows it?

Well, if a HISTORIAN knows it, then obviously its scraping the bottom of the knowledge barrel....

I'm taking myself back to my books on the seventeenth century

Parrotsarebadbad · 08/08/2019 19:36

She lives in Switzerland and I know the health system over there is a lot more about alternative medicine, so maybe that has something to do with it.

Say what? Breastfeeding his hardly alternative medicine. You sound quite ignorant, but worse, so spiteful. Your poor sister. Are you jealous of her?

hazell42 · 08/08/2019 21:37

My dad, who had no education, never missed an opportunity to mock me and my mother who both had higher degrees.
Your jealousy and inferiority complex is showing.
Nit attractive
If you want a PhD get one

Whatisinaname1 · 09/08/2019 09:03

So you had to get one over and be right so you sent your sister with a poorly baby a message which said so and posted on here. Unpleasant to say the least.
