to not own up to eating the nuggets?

The other day a couple of my workmates got McDonald’s for lunch. They were in the break room whilst I was but finished before me and left all their rubbish on the table. I got up to clear it up and noticed a box of 6 nuggets had been left amongst the mess. I got a bit greedy and demolished them Blush I was due my period and trying really really hard not to eat junk food but I couldn’t resist them. I thought they were not wanted.

Anyway about an hour later my other colleague came back from an appointment and one of the colleagues who had been to McDonald’s said “your nuggets are in the break room”. I then realised they weren’t leftovers at all and I’d eaten my workmates nugs! Sad

I felt really bad but was too scared to say anything and it’s turned into a bit of a witch hunt round the office. The thing is so many people had been into the break room it’s almost impossible to pin it on me. I managed to get into work early the other day, slip £5 into my colleagues desk to cover the nuggets then went out for a coffee and came back to the office at normal starting time.

But people are still going on about who the nugget thief is and the longer it goes on the more worried I am about saying it was me.

This is absolutely hilarious. You are too cute leaving money. I’d stay quiet, no good can come of you owning up now x

Niyamamama · 09/08/2019 18:34

Were they spicy nuggets? If so then yanbu and colleague should know better than to leave maccy d's unattended.

Xyzzzzz · 09/08/2019 18:44

Lmao, I’d just keep quiet

Awaywiththefairies1 · 09/08/2019 19:07

There's only 1 thing for it, you're going to have to sleep with a colleague in the photocopier room to give people something new to talk about.

Awaywiththefairies1 · 09/08/2019 19:08

Also, I think your colleague was bu by ordering 6 nugs when for a mere £1.60 more they could have had 20 of them!

EllenMP · 09/08/2019 19:25

I agree with the posters who say to just tell them you cleaned up the mess they left and threw everything away. They can ponder the wisdom of leaving food and trash out in the break room, especially together.

pollymere · 09/08/2019 19:34

Tell the chicken nugget owner that you put a fiver in their desk as you accidentally tidied them with the rubbish and you feel awful they went without lunch. Do it somewhere quiet. Otherwise they'll be freaked out by the fiver. Hopefully they can then say they know what happened but aren't saying! If they do have it forced out of them that you cleared up a massive mess in the kitchen, the rest of them will be focused on the mess clearing. If they ask why you didn't say anything, say you hadn't clicked the mess might have contained the missing nuggets!

CatInADoghouse · 09/08/2019 20:21

I had to go out on my lunch break today and buy 20 chicken nuggets because of this thread. I ate them all myself and I feel no shame!

StressedAndBurntOut · 09/08/2019 20:42

Uber eats a delivery of nuggets for the office anonymously

And keep the confession for your resignation letter if and when the time comes

imsoootired · 09/08/2019 20:58

I like quorn nuggets ...

Zoejj77 · 09/08/2019 21:26

Where do work? Who has time to witch hunt over 6 nuggets

Likeazombi · 09/08/2019 21:45

You need to give them something else to talk about.
Gossip where I work includes is so and so on hard-core drugs, what's the beef between a and b, is c fucking d, and who the hell leaves their bogeys on the toilet wall.
Start some mild speculation and let Daziel and Pascoe do the rest.

Gson · 09/08/2019 22:02

Just say you there them away because you thought they were leftovers and sorry you didn't admit it sooner! It's not a big deal, its nuggets for goodness sake!!! and you very Kindly put £5 in colleagues desk! It will pass even if you mention nothing

Housemum · 09/08/2019 22:29

Throw the suspicion off you by never eating nuggets, only ever burgers. Exclaim how the nuggets taste awful.

Aprillygirl · 10/08/2019 04:34

Colleague's were BU and careless for leaving wanted food amongst their mess. You were kind enough to clear it all up for them plus not (as far as you knew) let good food going to waste-even if you did relish said food. You even went out of your way to pay the money back to colleague. You sound really sweet and should worry no more about it. Hopefully your office will find something a bit more interesting to get their pant/ies in a twist about soon enough.

Gbtch · 10/08/2019 06:05

Don’t own up! Ever!

crispysausagerolls · 10/08/2019 07:16

The episode of friends where someone eats Ross’ sandwich has me fully on Ross’ side and I am surprised by myself here but I think YANBU! At all! You didn’t mean to do it, it was an honest mistake and frankly it’s hilarious. Really hilarious. What a cracking thread.

Of course you can never; ever own up.

You could buy the office 40 nuggets or the hamburgler joke etc but the risk of suspicion if you do the nuggets openly, or the risk of people caught if you don’t is too high I think!

Would love some nuggets for breakfast, mmmmmm

StillCoughingandLaughing · 10/08/2019 08:34

Buy some nuggets today. Leave them out on the worktop over the weekend so that they start to smell a bit. Go to work early on Monday, stick them in Nancy Drew’s drawer and, when everyone starts complaining ‘What’s that smell?’, they will be lead to Nancy’s drawer and she’ll get the blame. Problem solved.

SuperSue77 · 14/08/2019 12:42

Has the nugget witch hunt continued this week or has it been forgotten?
