to not own up to eating the nuggets?

The other day a couple of my workmates got McDonald’s for lunch. They were in the break room whilst I was but finished before me and left all their rubbish on the table. I got up to clear it up and noticed a box of 6 nuggets had been left amongst the mess. I got a bit greedy and demolished them Blush I was due my period and trying really really hard not to eat junk food but I couldn’t resist them. I thought they were not wanted.

Anyway about an hour later my other colleague came back from an appointment and one of the colleagues who had been to McDonald’s said “your nuggets are in the break room”. I then realised they weren’t leftovers at all and I’d eaten my workmates nugs! Sad

I felt really bad but was too scared to say anything and it’s turned into a bit of a witch hunt round the office. The thing is so many people had been into the break room it’s almost impossible to pin it on me. I managed to get into work early the other day, slip £5 into my colleagues desk to cover the nuggets then went out for a coffee and came back to the office at normal starting time.

But people are still going on about who the nugget thief is and the longer it goes on the more worried I am about saying it was me.

Why did you take it upon yourself to clear the rubbish away in the first place, op? Do you often play housemaid to your colleagues?
Fess up, the box was sitting there alone in all it’s glory and you thought it’d been forgotten about... 😉

Pinkout · 08/08/2019 17:03

So much angst over some cheap chicken nuggets! Pretty silly really.

managedmis · 08/08/2019 17:10

Brings back memories, does hamburglar #80skid

I'd forgotten about him!

managedmis · 08/08/2019 17:11

About more nuggets of info on the saga, op?

LagunaBubbles · 08/08/2019 17:18

So they were stone cold? Bleugh!

Oh I love cold chicken nuggets!

HeadintheiClouds · 08/08/2019 17:21

Another irrelevant question... You were in the break room before your colleagues arrived and stayed long enough after they’d left to scoff someone else’s lunch? Are you a bit work shy? Or do you get an official double lunch break for other reasons?

ShirleyPhallus · 08/08/2019 17:36

I think everyone who is getting so het up about the interest and drama is forgetting that often work is incredibly fucking boring and this kind of stuff really makes a day go quicker

Just like when someone snuck back in to the office after a night out and weed in a pot plant at work. We got MONTHS of chat out of that.

Millie2017 · 08/08/2019 17:38

Another one saying take this to the grave with you

NuggieThief · 08/08/2019 17:38

@HeadintheiClouds because I was clearing away my rubbish and the two lads had left theirs on the table (they are youngish and treat the office like a tip - you should see their desks!) I don’t see it as playing housekeeper, rather I was putting my own rubbish in the bin anyway so thought I’d do the decent thing and clear the table.

Without giving too much away, I work in an office that is a sales environment. I do the admin and get an hours lunch break, the colleagues who got the McDonalds are “business development” and are often in and out on appointments or on the phones. Colleagues that actually drive the sales very rarely take their full lunch hour as they just don’t have time and it’s a bit of an unspoken rule that if you’re in the sales team you eat a quick lunch and get back to busineas. Admins and the receptionist seem to be exempt from this.

And yet they’ve time to draw up flowcharts plotting people’s movements...

Barbarafromblackpool · 08/08/2019 17:46

Say nothing.

ShirleyPhallus · 08/08/2019 17:47

@headintheclouds you sound like a right Susan of “speak to the manager” meme. I bet you’re the office manager and don’t let people have new pens until they can prove the old one has run out.

What’s with all the questions?!

NuggieThief · 08/08/2019 17:47

@HeadintheiClouds where did you get flowcharts from?! Hmm and yes two of the ladies in accounts do seem to have a lot of time on their hands.

Anything else you want to question?

flappi · 08/08/2019 17:50

God . All over a box of nuggets . You paid the colleague back . Seriously forget about it your conscience is clear . If they are going to be that finnicky over some food and a mistake I don’t blame you for not wanting to own up . You gave the money back . Now chill , they will forget about it .

HeadintheiClouds · 08/08/2019 17:50

No, I’m not an office manager! Op said they rush away from lunch to “get back to business” as they just don’t have the time to take the full allotted time; not me...

NuggieThief · 08/08/2019 17:52

@HeadintheiClouds the people in the sales team do, yes. The Nancy Drew’s aren’t in the sales team. What’s with the interrogation?? Hmm

OP posts:
ShirleyPhallus · 08/08/2019 17:53

Yes but this is a pretty light thread which has resulted in some amusing posts, until your Guantanamo Bay style interrogation arrived

Alwaysgrey · 08/08/2019 17:55

Take it to the grave. Owning up now looks all kinds of strange.

@ReeReeR for your regular thief I would be leaving a nice looking lunch in the fridge laced with laxatives. That would be a fairly big clue who it was.

CruellaFeinberg · 08/08/2019 18:09

I hate nuggets.... ew

managedmis · 08/08/2019 18:23

Headintheclouds

Not me?

Sure, not you at all..

WendyBagina · 08/08/2019 18:26

This is brilliant.

I really hope @kateandme is your colleague or the DM picks this up.

ATR707 · 08/08/2019 18:26

Just wanted to say, no judgement from me OP! I too would have eaten the nuggets, I don't see anything gross about eating boxed up untouched nuggets that you know have only been there a short time and believe are otherwise destined for the bin. I would be very aware that others would judge though, especially in an office environment and after all the investigating, so another vote for take this one to the grave

origamiunicorn · 08/08/2019 18:34

😂😂😂 I'm loving Nuggetgate!

I think all you can do now OP is say nothing and just create a bigger drama somehow so that this one is forgotten. Put a fake poo on the toilet seat or photocopy your bum and leave it lying around 😂😂😂

BlueCornsihPixie · 08/08/2019 19:01

I'd have had the nugs too OP! You were throwing them out, why throw out good nugs?

Don't own up to it. Let them be detective, it will fizzle out. I'd just have a little chuckle to myself every time it was bought up. You've given the fiver leave it

LuckyLou7 · 08/08/2019 19:08

I used to work in an office. It was very dull and petty intrigues like this livened up the day. It was annoying though, to go to the fridge for my can of Sprite and find it was gone. Yoghurts, cereal bars, shop bought salads and sandwiches would all go missing - I'm pretty sure it was just one person, who couldn't be arsed to organise their own lunch and would help themselves to whatever was in the fridge. People started leaving postit notes on their stuff with 'I've spat in this' written on it - still didn't deter the thief.
