To really dislike bouquets that include lilies?

They stink, the pollen stains and they’re poisonous to animals.

But of course if someone sends you flowers, it’s impolite to say actually I can’t stand lilies.

AIBU to say never send anyone a bouquet with lilies unless you know they actually like the (vile) things?

My light grey sofa now has bright yellow pollen stains after the five year old ignored repeated warnings to not go near the horrible flowers 💐

My favourite flowers (but I have a cat so don't get them anymore )

GruciusMalfoy · 07/08/2019 15:03

YANBU, they smell like urine.

And aren't they used a lot in funeral arrangements?

TheBabyAteMyBrain · 07/08/2019 15:03

YANBU but I'm also allergic to the poisonous, staining, stinky shits so I hate them extra hard.

caranx · 07/08/2019 15:05

You can snip the stamens off to prevent staining.

verticality · 07/08/2019 15:06

I'm not personally a fan of lillies either, but I'd just be grateful for any bunch of flowers!!

MojitoMojitoo · 07/08/2019 15:06

Im not a fan of then either. Orange roses only for me!

IAskTooManyQuestions · 07/08/2019 15:07

Oh trauma! Send them back, bin them, give them to a hospice

Basketofkittens · 07/08/2019 15:07

They are the only flower I allow in my house.

AnastasiaVonBeaverhausen · 07/08/2019 15:08

I love them.

sweetkitty · 07/08/2019 15:08

Throw the lilies out of it’s just a few flowers or as I do give them to a friend that needs cheering up (I have cats so can’t even have them in the house).

GreenTulips · 07/08/2019 15:09

Use cello tape to get the pollen off

I also hate them

FredaNerkk · 07/08/2019 15:09

YADBU. Lilies are my favourites! Absolutely love them. I wouldn't want people to hesitate
(You can cut out the yellow stamens if you're that bothered).

Carnations on the other hand .... ick.

Nottobesoldseparately · 07/08/2019 15:09

I love them.

Always have a bunch on the go. Smell lovely.

My dog and furnishings have survived.

MrsTerryPratchett · 07/08/2019 15:10

Snip the stamen off.

I love them if anyone wants to send me flowers.

OtraCosaMariposa · 07/08/2019 15:11

Stargazer lillies are gorgeous. But they really affect my hayfever, worse than any other sorts of flowers.

Personally, I like a nice iris.

thenightsky · 07/08/2019 15:11

I love lilies. Send them to me.

I display them in my fireplace where the pollen doesn't matter. If I want them on the table (white tablecloth) I snip the pollen stems off.

IHaveBrilloHair · 07/08/2019 15:12

My favourites, I love them but haven't had any in 8 years because cats.

Halloumimuffin · 07/08/2019 15:12

Hate lillies. They stink of pee and they're ugly.

envelopeofpubes · 07/08/2019 15:12

I love them but rarely buy them these days as I tend to buy flowers the day I want them for the house and they are sold almost completely closed nowadays. I don't give them to other people as a bouquet though, they are traditionally funeral flowers, I think. Could be making that up though. They are quite funereal.

RainbowAlicorn · 07/08/2019 15:14

I cant go near them as they set my hayfever off terrible. If someone gives me flowers with lilies in I just tell them "thank you but I will have to throw the lilies away as both me and DH are allergic"

lmusic87 · 07/08/2019 15:14

They seem to be such a divisive flower!

Too funereal for me!

vasya · 07/08/2019 15:17

Yanbu - they seem to be in everything. Vomity smelling, vile things!

Notopel · 07/08/2019 15:17

I normally point people in the direction of Bloom & Wild for bouquets. Tend to find florists like Interflora use lots of lilies and carnations (which I also don’t care for).

ShinyMe · 07/08/2019 15:17

As previous posts have said - just cut out the stamens and that gets rid of any staining risks and 99% of the smell.

Purpleartichoke · 07/08/2019 15:18

Most lilies = instant headache.

I wish they weren’t so common in bouquets.
