Is not getting far more media coverage?

OP posts:
jennymanara · 12/08/2019 00:38

Its not clear from the news reports I have seen whether she was sleeping in a bedroom with her siblings?

ThighThighOfthigh · 12/08/2019 00:48

When i read Sara Payne's book i was struck by something the police told her.

When they found Sarah's body they said there were no other children missing and so it was bound to be Sarah. I'm paraphrasing but i was surprised, i thought there were many more missing children.

Nora seems to be quite disabled and her family are adamant she wouldn't go anywhere independently. The windows in the resort are not lockable i don't think.

jennymanara · 12/08/2019 00:58

If you google it there are very few children in the UK long term missing. That is why the police presumably could be confident it was Sarah.

Generally children who go missing are in care - I worked in a children's home for a while and we were always ringing the police because a child was officially missing. In most cases we knew they would be staying with friends or even family they had been taken away from but had run back to. They were vulnerable but not missing in terms of no one knowing where they are. Or they are children who have reasons to run away. Maybe a chaotic family, abusive family, or they are out of control off the parents and are running away to stay with friends, go to parties, etc.

The amount of children actually missing in terms of none of their friends and relatives know where they are, is very small in the UK. Of those small number of cases, in most cases the police have a pretty good idea what has happened but can't prove it. For example strong suspicions for good reasons that they are the victim of a serial killer. And that leaves an even tinier number of children where no one has any idea what has happened to them.

jennymanara · 12/08/2019 01:07

Also some lists of still missing children you find in newspapers includes children who have been abducted abroad by a parent. They are missing in that the parent with residency does not know where they are, but the parent they are with does know where they are.

jennymanara · 12/08/2019 01:12

And this thread talks about children who are officially missing but it looks like they have been trafficked into the UK.

I’ve namechanged - I know the family well.
They are going through hell. Those sitting behind their keyboards speculating that the ‘parents may have been involved’ should take a long hard look at themselves, shame on you. Meabh and Seb are broken.

If anyone wants to help please share the information posted on various social media platforms by the Lucie Blackman trust. You never know what link you might bridge.

Legoroses · 12/08/2019 06:20

I'm so sorry for Nora's parents and siblings. I cannot get them out of my mind. It's just the worst thing. They must be out of their minds with worry. And poor Nora. I can't imagine how hard it must be for them.

The weird idiots who come up with conspiracy theories are utter scum. Utter scum. (I did wonder if it's some sort of cognitive dissonance. That it's so hard to accept that something so totally awful could happen that you just don't accept it, but instead tell yourself a story that the parents might have done it to relieve yourself from living in a world where the most horrendous things happen to innocent people. Same with idiot theories about 9/11 and so on. It's a giant act of selfishness either way.)

Whattodoinleeds · 12/08/2019 07:12

@neveradullmoment99 aren’t most of those runaway teens though?

endofthelinefinally · 12/08/2019 08:52

My child used to sleep walk, particularly if overtired/excited/in a strange place We used to have to lock windows and doors, place chairs against doors, hang bells on door handles etc. Going on holiday was quite stressful because of that.
That poor family.

SistersOfPercy · 12/08/2019 09:14

This story has made me so sad. I used to work with an AS girl who is very similar to Nora in age and appearance and I can't help but think of her when I see Nora.
I do hope she's just frightened and hiding somewhere.

neveradullmoment99 · 12/08/2019 10:26

neveradullmoment99 aren’t most of those runaway teens though?
Most likely...but does it matter really? They are still children in very bad circumstances and still incredibly vunerable. It is all so very sad.

neveradullmoment99 · 12/08/2019 10:29

..and as for Nora, its awful whatever has happened and my heart goes out to Noras family. The only reason im on this thread is to hear any updates i may have missed and to express sadness for her family.

SansaSnark · 12/08/2019 10:44

I agree that comparisons to Madeline McCann aren't helpful- her parents were very media savvy and had PR/press relations involved almost right from the start.

I also agree that that it's totally unfair to judge the parents on their behaviour. No one knows how they will behave or act in this sort of situation and whatever the parents do will be judged by someone.

There is something about this case that feels strange- but I think that is also common in missing persons cases where there are no/few clues.

I hope Nora is eventually found.

Feenie · 12/08/2019 10:49

I thought this thread was going to be about the 15 year old who went missing in York -- she speaks no English, disappeared on a tour, and all that has been reported over several is that 8 people have been arrested. It's very alarming but hardly in the media.

EmeraldShamrock · 12/08/2019 10:49

I think it is strange as the police are not listening to the parents.
The Irish Garda are arriving this week, I wish the Garda or Scotland yard went sooner, the hotline was set up sooner.
To the pp's who know the family personally support them as best you can. Flowers
So much evidence destroyed, nothing learnt after MM.

Feenie · 12/08/2019 10:49

over several days

EmeraldShamrock · 12/08/2019 10:51

@Feenie Sad

jennymanara · 12/08/2019 11:30

@Feenie Yes I have read about that, but it has had hardly any coverage. The thread I posted above from websleuths talks about girl along with other children missing that are though to have been trafficked.

Emerald - From afar it seems as if the police are listening to the parents. It really does look like she wandered away and got lost, but the police are investigating whether she could have been abducted.
Sadly if you or I woke up late at night and saw something outside we wanted to look at - maybe a monkey or something similar? - went outside and quickly got lost, we would shout to wake someone up and find us. You could quickly get lost in the dark in this terrain but be very close by. A timed shy child with SN is more likely to stay quiet and try and find her own way back.

Also people have asked why thermal helicopters have not found her if she wandered off. The complex is surrounded by thick jungle. Thermal imaging does not always work in those circumstances. And there will be lots of other wildlife in the jungle such as monkeys, so quite difficult I should imagine to differentiate between a curled up monkey and a curled up child on the ground.

LittleDoritt · 12/08/2019 12:28

Apart from one lone dickhead I don't think anyone on this thread has doubted the parents. We all just feel sick and heart sorry for what they are going through.

Feenie · 12/08/2019 13:10

There's been an update in the case of Linh Le, the girl who went missing in York. They still haven't found her . Sad

FindNora · 12/08/2019 13:48

You’re right, sorry - I was more referring to it generally, there have been some vile comments on twitter and in the comments section of some of the news stories which I can only hope they never see.

A reward has now been offered 💔

CostaOrProseccoPlease · 12/08/2019 14:02

This story is getting alot of coverage, not sure why you expect more? Every day I have heard her name and heard the latest news

Pikapikachooo · 12/08/2019 14:07

It’s a bloody tragedy
My friend also knows the family and I have no doubt of their immense suffering and pain

I pray for them all as it’s the worst thing ever

Her videos are so graceful and painful to watch

We have had
Miracles before (Thai cane boys) and I hope this could be one too . But suspect the worst

I could weep

jennymanara · 12/08/2019 14:44

Yes if this post had been about Linh Le I would have agreed

x2boys · 12/08/2019 15:09
