Is not getting far more media coverage?

IsobelRae23 it’s very dense jungle with a lot of inaccessible places so I don’t think it’s that suspicious. If you think about how difficult it is to walk through coarse jungle, how many trees/heavy foliage/ravines/rocks etc there are I can see how it would be easy to miss some points even with a huge team. It would be very different to searching through woods in western countries.

EmeraldShamrock · 13/08/2019 11:00

It would be like looking for a needle in a haystack.
I am really glad they found her, I didn't think it would be possible in the jungle. The Malaysian people searched tirelessly I am grateful for all the volunteers who searched for her.

notacooldad · 13/08/2019 11:01

Clinging to hope that it isn’t Nóra but that’s so unlikely really. Poor wee thing
If its not her it would presumably mean another family is suffering.

DejaVoodoo · 13/08/2019 11:03

“Only a mile” from a given point is a huge area to search, especially in dense jungle with drops and waterfalls etc. They’d be searching all the way around, not just in a straight line! An area of 3.14 square miles.

my2bundles · 13/08/2019 11:07

Just watched the bbc report again as it was repeated and it's definitely said a man walked up to a police checkpoint to report this. As a parent of a child with special needs my thoughts are with the family.

StupidlittlepricknamedRick · 13/08/2019 11:08

IsobelRae23 You're assuming the body has been there since day one.

dayswithaY · 13/08/2019 11:11

Exactly. It does seem odd that as soon as reward is offered, her body is discovered. I really hope the police can get to the truth here.

SansaSnark · 13/08/2019 11:12

It is really hard to search in dense jungle/forest- sadly a high proportion of hikers who go missing are never found. It's also much harder to find a body or someone who is unresponsive compared to someone who is awake and perhaps trying to alert rescuers.

It is also possible the body hasn't been there the whole time.

It's a very sad situation and I feel for the family.

Nicknacky · 13/08/2019 11:14

The reward was offered yesterday or the day before. And it’s for her “safe” return so the finder of the body might not necessarily get the reward money.

Most of the time the truth is a simple explanation. Not every thing in life is a murder mystery.

NoTheresa · 13/08/2019 11:19

This discussion is unsavoury.

NoTheresa · 13/08/2019 11:20

“discussion”

ThatCurlyGirl · 13/08/2019 11:20

Oh god, her poor family. I can begin to imagine what they're going through. Fucking hell life can be so cruel.

Propertyofhood · 13/08/2019 11:24

Yes, I hate to be that person but can we not do the whole 'somethings odd here' thing please?

By that token you could say it's odd that as soon as the local Shamen asked the Genie to return the body it was discovered.

They're searching huge expanse of jungle here, as has been said above this isn't the local park. Balance of probability she wouldn't have wandered far into it and it would take a finite amount of time to find her.
It's coincidental that the reward was offered. Completely.

Gooseysgirl · 13/08/2019 11:38

God this is terribly sad news, thoughts are with her family Sad

Tattybogle89 · 13/08/2019 12:03

Stop speculating and leave them in peace.
It makes no difference to your lives how she got there or why. Just stop.

Cocobean30 · 13/08/2019 12:06

@IsobelRae23 I agree with you!!

WeshMaGueule · 13/08/2019 12:08

I'm not going to speculate but I will say it's pretty distasteful dissing the Malaysian search team like some people upthread have.

Almostalive · 13/08/2019 12:13

Awful news. Poor, poor family ☹️

Funghi · 13/08/2019 12:21

but I will say it's pretty distasteful dissing the Malaysian search team

It always happens whenever there’s a tragedy. It’s amazing how many posters come out the woodwork who have expert knowledge of leading a search party in the Malaysian jungle/Madagascar etc.

IsobelRae23 · 13/08/2019 12:23

You’ve all made very valid points on my post. I don’t know the jungle, have never been to the area, and am thinking of a miles radius from where I live, and think it’s nothing with that many people.

I just can’t begin to imagine the nightmare her poor family are going through. None of us take our children on holiday, and expect not to come home without them.

Billballbaggins · 13/08/2019 12:25

The search team have been working their arses off in thick jungle, they’re amazing. I really feel for Nora’s parents and family, it’s so unbelievably sad.

yolofish · 13/08/2019 12:59

It's funny, I was cutting down an impenetrable clump of bamboo today (not in Malaysia!) and thinking just how impossible it would be search.
Poor Nora, poor family - and to the poster on here who knows them, please let them know just how sad people are feeling for them all.
