To ask what demographic Ealing is?

Hi,
Dh is being relocated to Ealing this year after years abroad.
We both come from middle class backgrounds and I was born and raised in maidavale.

Many years abroad and now I’m completely out of the loop.

What demographic is Ealing? Whilst visiting whilst looking for houses, I can’t seem to put my finger on it. We are thinking of haymills if anyone knows?

Schools are very important to me as we have 3 children, but there aren’t any grammar schools....

Should I go private?

Sorry I’m completely lost in this situation and it’s been hectic to try and research or buy as I’m oversees.

Any advice is very appreciated.

Having lived in both Maida Vale and Ealing I found this thread vaguely amusing(!). I currently live in North Ealing and think it’s lovely. Family friendly, quiet and residential and very pleasant. Surrounded by plenty of high performing schools (both state and private). The high street has been going through some rejuvenation but it seems to be in a state of limbo (e.g. Gail’s and swanky new eateries etc. but lots of budget outlets too). Crossrail and the new cinema seem to be taking some time to progress but given the size of the borough, it attracts a wide demographic. Not necessarily a bad thing!

Hanwell is more villagey
Nothing in London is villagey. It's a fucking huge overcrowded city.

Around Ealing Common, Pitzhanger, Walpole and Northfields is LOVELY. Perfect middle class family territory. I lived there for six years, and I adored it. I hope to move back one day.

Pitshanger*

Northfield Avenue is great. Fab community. God, I miss living there. I grew up in Chiswick but way prefer Ealing.

Why do people bump up these old threads?! It's nearly a year old!!!

Zombie alert

Perhaps because the posts are useful to wider readers rather than just the poster? #engagebrain.

Oh look. I just posted on an old thread again. Damn.

I don’t think wanting to live in a good part of town next to good schools is snobbish. It’s just trying to do what’s best for kids

Not sure I'd choose Ealing to live, however "posh" it is, and I have a friend who lives in Northfields but rather him than me.

What about somewhere like Teddington?

cologne4711 · 24/08/2020 14:54

Oh I suppose you have made your choice by now Grin

Royalbloo · 24/08/2020 14:54

If you come our of Ealing Broadway and turn right it's lovely - lived there for 9 yrs. Turn left and it's more gritty, but not terrible.

Move to Chiswick. It is full of dreadful snobs. Ealing has a ton of extremely wealthy people but they tend timo be much mire down to Earth.

Thisisworsethananticpated · 13/02/2022 08:10

Ealing is green and diverse
Some white working class
A lot of Asian (southall )
A few
Counsel estates with everyone
Loads of Eastern European’s
Loads of black people , all over
A shit loads of white mc in Ealing central , pitshanger , Northfields etc

I’m not going to discuss school as I totally abhor how the the system is and how white mc people act around schools

But I’m sure you will find the white ghetto and hear about the best state schools
Or the sea where the private school are

Given that this is a thread from 2019 I expect the OP has decided where to live by now.

Yes, conveyancing can be a lengthy process but I doubt it is still dragging on 2 and a half years later.
