AIBU to question if Brexiteers have any facts to back up their arguments?

All I get from Brexiteers who believe in No Deal is that they think that "It will be alright!" Is they think everything will miraculously work out for the best.

No facts to offer, nothing. Nothing other than a religious style conviction that it will all be alright in the end.

Is that all they've got at their disposal to convince me that No Deal is a good idea?

OP posts:
CherryPavlova · 04/08/2019 09:10

Nobody can convince you it’s a good idea simply because it isn’t.

Bezalelle · 04/08/2019 09:13

Basically, nobody knows anything and we are all doomed.

Blueoasis · 04/08/2019 09:16

No one knows and even if we suddenly find out with facts that it's a bad idea, it doesn't matter as bojo will force it through regardless.

We are leaving. End of. Not going to change.

Pellegrinopolly · 04/08/2019 09:17

Um, not really. It’s happening now, whether Remainers are happy or not. Brexiteers “won”, they don’t need to provide evidence of anything.

Um I think they certainly do have to provide evidence if they are risking the economic stability of our country and the Chairman of the Bank of England says that the UK econony is facing "profound uncertainty".

AskMeAboutBoswell · 04/08/2019 09:20

@whirlwinds
they didn't think being outside the EU was good for them.

Are these joining countries about to become net contributors as soon as they join? Or are they joining to receive money from the club?

Justaboutdone · 04/08/2019 09:20

Wiltshire this is the most important thing of my lifetime and probably yours.
It’s right it’s talked about and not hidden away.
Lies should be challenged whether they are on Leave or Remain side and the population have a right to known exactly what we may face if we No Deal.
That should have been made clear before the referendum and if it’s criminal that it wasn’t.

Wiltshire will be losing thousands of jobs in a few years time. Well paid jobs. What are those workers going to find when they are redundant?

It’s absolutely right it should be discussed and I can only hope that the government (with no mandate) get challenged and in the long term be held accountable for what they do.

bellinisurge · 04/08/2019 09:25

As fir "they don't have any facts either ". That's wrong. GFA will be broken if we No Deal - fact. All our international agreements end tbe moment we no Deal- fact. Included transport and food supply, not just rocket ships.
We may argue the toss over what mitigation we take to address those dreadful things. But they are facts.

KidLorneRoll · 04/08/2019 09:26

YANBU.

They have no facts. At all.

PostNotInHaste · 04/08/2019 09:28

Take up tennis is the most patronising comment I’ve seen for ages. Some people are dependent on insulin and actually you know what it is just a touch worrying when a family member’s life depends on it, the Government’s assurances fall somewhat flat when they don’t appear to be able to organise a piss up in a brewery and rejected the WA agreement which would have meant a softer landing.

Thing is you don’t really get a transition period with insulin . You have it or you don’t The don’t means death, it’s one of those things that just isn’t negotiable. But I’ll suggest to my DH who has coped brilliantly with his diabetes since he was a child that we take up tennis or something, marvellous idea, jolly good show.

BackInTime · 04/08/2019 09:31

Facts are irrelevant these days. For the last 3 years we have listened to leading politicians spouting absolute lies and half truths which mostly goes unchallenged. Breixters like Raab spout propaganda implying that people knew that voting Leave meant no deal, when it has been proven that no deal was hardly mentioned during the campaign. Boris claimed that no deal would be 'vanishingly inexpensive' yet has pledged a further £2.1billion to prepare on top of the billions already spent. If it's all going to be so wonderful when we leave why then do we need to spend billions on minimising the impact of no deal?

mummmy2017 · 04/08/2019 09:32

Remainers are like the child who missed the school party and now demand the school rerun it...

PostNotInHaste · 04/08/2019 09:34

No Mummy, a lot of us aren’t. We’re just saying we don’t want to die of alcohol poisoning or drug overdose during the party.

Justaboutdone · 04/08/2019 09:35

Mummy comments like that are stupid and irresponsible.

You have people her who are terrified for their life or the lives of loved ones and you come on her with a stupid comment like that - grow up!!!!

LauraKsWhiteCoat · 04/08/2019 09:39

The best 'fact' I saw quoted on here recently was that all the scaremongering was rubbish because it's been three years and none of the doom and gloom that was predicted has happened.

Spectacularly missing the point that that is because Brexit hasn't actually happened yet.

constantlyseekinghappiness · 04/08/2019 09:42

Demanding brexit supporters give you an explanation because that was the majority of the vote is silly.

Perhaps ask the people who gave the population a vote on the matter? Maybe they can assist?

People exercised their democratic right to vote in a circumstance where a vote was created. They don’t owe anyone an explanation for bloody voting.

Lolapusht · 04/08/2019 09:42

I’ve not been able to find a Leave voter who can have a sensible conversation about Brexit. The second you ask for some facts (like why No Deal is going to be good for the country) they respond with: get over it, Brexit is happening; Project Fear; typical Remoaner response; it’s time to get on with it etc, etc. Time and again you see comments on FB where non-Leavers have questions based on what has been said (by the likes of Mark Carney etc) and it just gets shot down with “Well he would say that...he was a Remainer...part of Project Fear” or the absolute classic “The EU would be stupid to not trade with us...they’ll be sorry when we leave and take our money with us”. My favourite reason for No Deal Brexit so far is that we have to leave with No Deal because if we don’t the rest of the world will be laughing at us for being bossed around by the EU! I would love to have a conversation where a Leaver can show the converse position without resorting to deflection, avoidance and negativity or just saying “Its going to happen, get over it”. “Just because” isn’t really a good enough reason.

PostNotInHaste · 04/08/2019 09:42

And in addition to having to worry about insulin supply, DD will now be emigrating as she has a partner from EU who has moved here to be with her but feels so unwelcome he will be going. DS is now exploring his options on this front too. And if my Mother was still alive we’d be in the middle of administrative hell sorting out her right to remain and goodness knows what would be the situation with elderly PILs who emigrated to an EU country. I frequently wake up and am so grateful all 3 are dead.

But I’ll just chill out, play tennis and think of it as having missed the school party.

PostNotInHaste · 04/08/2019 09:43

The arrogance and casual dismissive attitude have to the biggest issue to effect the U.K. since the war is unbelievable.

Livelovebehappy · 04/08/2019 09:43

I could list facts right here right now but cant be arsed because we will still get some dumb remainers further down the thread bleating 'why isnt anyone answering the Ops question??'. Op, if you have time to kill today, then go on the hundreds of other Brexit posts on MN and get your answers there rather than starting another 'Lets have yet another bash a brexiteer thread as i'm having a bad day and want a bunfight' post.

OP hasn't demanded an explanation, they just questioned whether anyone could offer facts to back up their decision.

And no one has.

PostNotInHaste · 04/08/2019 09:51

I voted Remain and am reconciled to leaving and I think given the last 3 years it will probably be best for all concerned long term, though it saddens me to say so. But it needs to be done in a careful and considered way. It should be inconceivable that in the U.K. in 2019 anyone has even had to think about their insulin supply (and obviously other drugs)

The fact that people have had to is beyond belief and it doesn’t matter what you voted for, we should all be up in arms about this. But it’s simply not happening, attitudes are hardening and a fuck others attitude that has always been around seems to be hardening.

bellinisurge · 04/08/2019 09:52

@Livelovebehappy is doing the "I can't be arsed listing stuff because it's obvious " tactic. A classic!

pinkstripeycat · 04/08/2019 09:54

We didn’t actually fully join the EU until 1996. We were well off before then. We’ve been poor ever since. Prices rocketed in the UK after 1996 and in France and Spain they stayed low

pinkstripeycat · 04/08/2019 09:55

Wiltshirelass - you have hit the nail on the head
