To not leave holiday villa at designated time tomorrow?

Nextphonewontbesamsung · 03/08/2019 01:20

We are staying in a rural village in the south of France and are supposed to check out of our villa at 10.00 am. Howver, tonight there is a concert in the village square (our villa overlooks this square) and there is a band that have played a 7 hour set at FULL VOLUME. They have gone from Ed Sheeran and Coldplay covers to full on heavy metal and still going strong at 2.14am local time. Currently we're into about the 10th minute of their homage to Feels Like Teen Spirit. I have my alarm set for 8am so that we can be up early to finish packing and cleaning. Aibu to move my alarm back by at least an hour? We won't be ready to leave by 10 but I have a long drive tomorrow and it is not safe when so sleep deprived! Needless to say I am enormously fucked off!

Wanted to add that I also never leave a place a disaster area either (I'd be mortified). I expect the cleaners to come in and change sheets and towels and disinfect everything, but generally I try to leave a place pretty much as I found it.

wafflyversatile · 03/08/2019 16:46

Not sure who I have the least sympathy for.

Possibly the owner of several properties who has a cleaner who has to work like lightning to clean in 6 hours rather than employing an appropriate number of cleaners for the job.

G5000 · 03/08/2019 16:54

The owner has hired appropriate number of cleaners considering the check out is 10. It will clearly not be appropriate if the cleaners have considerably less time to do the work due to people not vacating the premises.

Where on the thread does it give details of the number of properties/cleaners the property owner has? Did I miss the post, or have you made a blind guess?

BillieEilish · 03/08/2019 16:59

It's not just the matter of 'hiring a cleaner' waffly, as MANY of us have explained, at length. The cleaner will be done in 3 hours.

That is the CLEANING only. Where do you think the cle linens come from? Who picks those up? NOT the cleaner.

Most responsible owners are there, overseeing absolutely everything.
There are gardeners, there are pool people. There are usually tradespeople for the blinds/air con/WIFI/electricity/palm trees/whatever the fuck has gone on and needs replacing.

You don't just own a villa and hire a cleaner. It's not a matter of hiring more cleaners FFS. It is everything else on top. Of running a villa, with a pool.

At the very least there will be a 'manager' doing meet and greet and checking absolutely everything.

With bills, each two week stay is minimum 500 euros. That is not for the 'cleaner'. That is the cost of upkeep and management/taxes.

I think it's incredibly rude to be late leaving and could inconvenience others.

PortiaCastis · 03/08/2019 17:19

For my sins I have inherited a holiday let business, today myself and 3cleaners have spent the best part of 7 hours cleaning changing 24 beds clearing up rubbish hoovering dusting coping with disgusting toilets taking welcome packs into the cottages (I made these up last night) and I'm just about to sit down for the first time in hours so please do not make our job any harder by making us wait to get into the property, you wouldn't like to sit in your car waiting to get in your holiday cottage because someone wouldn't shift so pleaae don't do it to others.
If there's noise take it up with the people making the noise don't delay changeover and inconvenience others as could be considered rather selfish.

averylongtimeago · 03/08/2019 17:41

Well I am just sitting down with a beer after doing the change over for our gite.
DH has done outside- huge area of grass mowed, pool cleaned, bbq scrubbed, terrace swept, weeding, watering, mole patrol don't ask just look up Jasper Carrot and the mole bins and sorting the recycling.
I have deep cleaned a 3 bed house- everything has been polished, two bathrooms kitchen the lot. It wasn't too bad today so I had time for a coffee and I've cleaned the windows.

The other week it took much longer- the kitchen was revolting, all the pans, cutlery and glasses had to be re washed and finally red wine had been spilt all the way down the stairs wall. Had to be repainted.
Tomorrow I start the laundry.

A lot of gite owners live nearby and do their own cleaning- we ask for 10-4 because that's how long it takes. You might think you've left it clean- but trust me, most of you haven't done everything (and why should you? Your on holiday!).

What do I wish guest would do?
Sort their recycling- and squash all the containers so it all fits in. Wipe up sticky spills as they happen, and put things back where you found them. That's about it, other than doing their own washing up.

As for local events- I always email links to the local websites and highlight fetes, as most people like them!

BillieEilish · 03/08/2019 17:50

averylongtime I forgot the BBQ! How could I? Also the frequent repainting! You are so right.

I'm just sitting down with a GandT

At least the dishwasher didn't have broken glass in it this week...

jackernanna · 03/08/2019 18:00

Commiserations to all owners/cleaners who have spent today wrestling with bed linen, vacuum cleaners and mowers. Hope the OP wasn't staying at yours!

FriendofDorothy · 03/08/2019 18:07

Holy shit OP you are hilarious. Please let me know which Airbnb you are in so that we can read the reviews and see the owners comment back to you about rude guests.

PortiaCastis · 03/08/2019 18:14

A couple of years ago I had one cottage made unfit because a female guest apparently got drunk and peed on a settee so I had to find somewhere else for the next guests to stay while a new settee and carpet were installed. The drunk was sent a bill but she paid £20 and I'm still waiting for the rest Angry she did say she had a good time though but if she wants to come back we're booked

Medievalist · 03/08/2019 18:16

Because they're all doing it out of the goodness of their hearts and not trying to keep turnaround to a minimum so as to maximise their profit 🙄

PortiaCastis · 03/08/2019 18:19

Thanks jack

BillieEilish · 03/08/2019 18:26

YY Portia

I've had, a broken T.V., broken C.D player, broken bed, very we'ed on matress several times, no towels left (all gone and left at beach) smashed patio doors x4, someone with chicken pox needing us to take them to hospital, stained walls needing repainting, period stains all over the sofa, blocked pool filter from family just coming back from beach and jumping in pool, covered in sand, broken kettle, toaster, coffee machine, dishwasher, washing machine (all guests fault) two bins full of tampax (40 degree heat), broken alarm, smashed glasses (all) plates, lights, smashed patio steps, 6 broken patio chairs, parasols, honestly, I could go on.

Nobody wants left over food, nobody. It gets chucked.

I don't really care BUT THE NEXT PEOPLE ARE ABOUT TO ARRIVE. Stress levels are huge.

People don't give a shit and they think 'hire extra cleaners and pay them properly', that is the attitude, it makes me weep.

200 euro deposit doesn't cut it.

PortiaCastis · 03/08/2019 18:40

Oh yes Billie the state of the beds is disgusting even had a used condom left in one! Broken washing machine doors seem to be popular but only ever had one broken window and one broken dishwasher. Bunged up toilets and shower doors broken plus missing kitchen equipment also popular.

BillieEilish · 03/08/2019 18:46

Just pay your cleaners more Portia or get more cleaners! Grin joke obvs!

YY blocked loos, yuk plus emergency plumber right here, right now, on a Saturday in August.

Good luck with that in Spain!

The cleaners clean people, they do not do garden or home maintenance or replace windows/furniture/appliances/ruined sheets etc...

Rant over! Gin replenished, washing machine, load 1 on...

Vulpine · 03/08/2019 18:47

Tough life being a multiple property owner

Doubleraspberry · 03/08/2019 18:49

The milk of human sympathy is running slightly thin.

BillieEilish · 03/08/2019 18:49

I own one property Vulpine

I cannot afford to live in it.

People have some strange ideas.

ChampagneBuffet · 03/08/2019 18:51

I think it could inconvenience the owner, but there's no harm in asking.

MsTSwift · 03/08/2019 18:52

Sorry still not feeling the sympathy for poor beleaguered owners of holiday properties...

Vulpine · 03/08/2019 18:52

Holiday let's are not always difficult to manage.

BillieEilish · 03/08/2019 18:55

If you say so Vulpine

I've had 15 years experience. I am selling my property. It is honestly not worth it. This will be my last summer thank God.

If you have a small flat, yes. But villa with garden and pool. The more you do to make it nice, the more that gets broken and ruined.

People more and more, have the same attitude as you. It's horrible.
