To not leave holiday villa at designated time tomorrow?

Nextphonewontbesamsung · 03/08/2019 01:20

We are staying in a rural village in the south of France and are supposed to check out of our villa at 10.00 am. Howver, tonight there is a concert in the village square (our villa overlooks this square) and there is a band that have played a 7 hour set at FULL VOLUME. They have gone from Ed Sheeran and Coldplay covers to full on heavy metal and still going strong at 2.14am local time. Currently we're into about the 10th minute of their homage to Feels Like Teen Spirit. I have my alarm set for 8am so that we can be up early to finish packing and cleaning. Aibu to move my alarm back by at least an hour? We won't be ready to leave by 10 but I have a long drive tomorrow and it is not safe when so sleep deprived! Needless to say I am enormously fucked off!

I haven't read all 10 pages, so don't know if it has been mentioned yet: Why didn't you use the time you waited for the performance to finish to do all the things you planned to do the next morning?
You could have packed everything except clothes for the next morning, put everything in the car, prepared breakfast that you can eat on the go and all you'd have to do the next morning would be to throw you pajamas - if you are wearing any - in the car, brush your teeth and leave. You could have slept until 9:55. Until 9:45 if you wanted to take a shower in the morning.

Yaflamingalah · 03/08/2019 12:27

You sound unbelievably entitled. How is it the owner’s fault there was a concert and you couldn’t sleep? Why should the cleaners, who have a job to do, end up late for the rest of their days work because of you? If I was the owner and you weren’t out by 10am I would fine you.

LipSyncForYourLife · 03/08/2019 12:50

Was it Galway Girl being played in the square? Have a nice lie in then fucking sue them!

JustDanceAddict · 03/08/2019 12:55

Bloody hell!
I hope the OP saw sense and vacated at 10am. I would never go beyond the checkout time without asking. We did once as our flights were later on and they said no as had people coming that day so we paid for luggage storage (we were in a city). You can drive on 6 hours sleep esp if you’ve had good rest for the preceding days. I’d have mad sure everything was packed the night before and just stripped beds/cleaned teeth in morning (similar to when you have an early flight - up and out). Then you could sleep til 9am - breakfast en route.

i wish i was in france

Elphame · 03/08/2019 13:13

@MorrisZapp

Because sometimes the cleaners are met with this...

The fridge interior had to be stripped out and bleached and it took my cleaner almost an hour to sort out the rubbish left behind. The picture shows a fraction of it.

Last year, we had guests who had taped foil across our kitchen tiles. When they removed the foil, the tiles came down. The 6 hours (5.5 in our case) between guests were all we had to grout the bloody things back on, in addition to a full bed change and clean. The place was disgusting and the amount of rubbish they generated was appalling.

I really hope the OP has gone. I'd charge her if she was more than a few minutes late as I have other things to do. And as for Betsy's email.... Reminds me of the "complaint" I received from a bloody doctor that the shower in my holiday cottage was dangerously hot. Stupid idiot had turned up the heating control to maximum. She also moaned that the carpet had marks on it (it had been cleaned many times) whilst her baby puked on it...

Undaunted77 · 03/08/2019 13:29

In this topic, those of you who are holiday rental owners, what in your view makes a good departee (apart from clearing out on time)? Do you expect people to have done cleaning already, stripped the beds etc?

TSSDNCOP · 03/08/2019 13:30

Why did they tape foil on the tile.. realise that’s not the point but I’m Confused

FairyDust92 · 03/08/2019 13:33

WHAT!! 😂😂
So it is the people who rent their cottage fault because the square had loud music.
They have to get ready for the next guests doesn't matter if they arrive at 4 no one can predict the state the previous people would leave the place in.
You're acting so entitled, I hope you got your stuff out and left at 10. Be more organised if you feel you weren't going to be ready at 10 :)

FairyDust92 · 03/08/2019 13:38

Villa not cottage 😂

Elphame · 03/08/2019 13:56

Do you expect people to have done cleaning already, stripped the beds etc?

No - not really . In fact I prefer the beds not stripped as it's easier to see if there are any stains on the bedding that need treating before washing.

As long as the bins are emptied, the washing up done and the place is left basically clean and tidy I'm happy. My cleaners will do the rest.

This thread is fantastic. I genuinely wonder why people like the OP bother going abroad when they clearly can't handle or appreciate the culture.

We used to rent out gites/bed and breakfast/camping. We lived on site and did all of the changeovers ourselves. On a peak season Saturday I would have 17 beds to change - plus all the other cleaning, mowing, pool maintenance. Guests need to leave on time and should also respect the arrival times.

We didn't expect people to strip the beds or do a deep clean, but we did expect that they would have cleared out the fridge, swept the floors and taken their rubbish to the bins (2 weeks of dirty nappies in the bins in 40 degrees - yuk). It is all do-able if you just have to change the beds, hoover round and give the bathrooms a good clean, but if you have to get rid of a fridge full of rotting food, scour all the pots and pans and pick dried weetabix out of the kitchen curtains then you can very quickly run out of time.

Then you have the guests who rock up 2 hours before arrival time. I was usually hot, tired, sweaty and dangerously hungry. Lots of fun cleaning the pool with a row of kids waiting outside the gate and glowering at you with their inflatables.

Goodness, I don't miss it at all......and OP you were being totally ridiculous. Maybe don't pick rural France for your next summer holiday.

PerkyPomPoms · 03/08/2019 14:21

Why didn’t you clean and pack while the music played?

SoupDragon · 03/08/2019 14:26

Why did they tape foil on the tile.

And why would removing it make the tiles fall off??

marvellousnightforamooncup · 03/08/2019 14:47

the email address of the concert organiser and let them know how disappointed I was with their lack of consideration towards people who had travelled to visit their area, only to be aurally assaulted until 2:30am, without any prior warning. I'd also leave shitty reviews all over the internet for anything or anyone connected to it - but then I can be really petty!

You're fucking batshit OP. Maybe a staycation would be better for you next year. If I got an email like that I'd probably frame it in my office and laugh every time I passed it.

LadyRannaldini · 03/08/2019 14:50

What an entitled person you sound to be! It says 10am, you knew it was 10 am, it's not the cleaners' or the owner's fault that you had a disturbed night, you must be out by 10 am. If you're not they owners would be well within their rights to charge you extra.

BillieEilish · 03/08/2019 15:32

It's not just the cleaner.

Garden needs to be maintained, pool needs a through clean, patios sorted, windows need washing, things need to be checked, WIFI, TV etc. All the linens/towels removed and replaced.
Welcome packs done.

The list is bloody endless.

And God forbid you need to rush and replace a kettle/ a bed matress/ put up or take down travel cots and highchairs etc...

6 hours is nothing. The villa has to be AS NEW and PERFECT.

I don't want guests to do anything, if they take the rubbish out when they leave that is kind. I just want them GONE on time so I can get on for next guests...

Bornlazy · 03/08/2019 15:57

I have a question. are the cleaners allowed to take unopened food/drinks? Things like bottles of wine or beer. I never know whether to chuck it or leave it.

Roussette · 03/08/2019 16:04

Let's be fair to the OP. She did not suggest this email. Another batshit poster did.

Procrastination4 · 03/08/2019 16:12

What DO you do if you inhale bug spray??

Be grateful that you've found a solution to the "I know an old lady who swallowed a fly" problem?

GrinGrin That response really made me laugh!

Madamfrog · 03/08/2019 16:22

I hope Betsy writes good French so the organisers of the concert can have a laugh at least before hitting the key for the corbeille.

HaileySherman · 03/08/2019 16:24

What I've done in the past is to do the official checkout, return key, etc at proper time, but left room unlocked and went back to finish getting everything out, picked up, after that. That way you'll not be charged any penalties and most likely won't cause any issue, since next guest is scheduled for 4 p.m. chances are the maid won't show up at 10 on the dot, you'll probably have plenty of time to finish up without interfering with them.
