To get a new sofa after only 3 years?

Three years ago I bought a sofa from made.com that's a pain in the arse. It's already saggy and after EACH time you sit on it you have to plump it because the cushions are stuffed with feathers. I hate it. It looks like a sad old man. Plus my kids have wrecked it with milk spillages.

Damn you instagram for cheating me into thinking this sofa was the business.

I know it's incredibly wasteful but DFS are in sale and they've some great 0% finance offers...

If you can afford it then sure.
Maybe your old sofa could be donated to a project for homeless people being rehoused or womens refuges, as it's quite new.

Coffeeandcherrypie · 02/08/2019 14:21

I need pictures of current and proposed sofas to opine

If you can afford it then why not, but spend time and effort investing in a good quality sofa rather than one that is fashionable for now.

Many sofas now are designed not to last that long and are very trend driven.

Also dont trust DFS deals. They have been found to be misleading customers with their never ending sale. If I remember correctly they have a sofa online for so many weeks on a made up full price but not in any store, then they put it in the same or on offer in store for a while at 'sale price' (except sale price is really the retail price bevause the before price is inflated). Then after the promotion the sofa is removed from stores and goes back at the original price online only.

The same sofa, but with a minor detail change e.g. scatter cushion cover/feet does the same thing so there is a revolving door of fake sales.

Any sale price in DFS should be ignored as they never sell any at full price.

BeanBag7 · 02/08/2019 14:27

That does look saggy! Was it like that from new?

That's lovely
The old one. Get the back restuffed.

Coffeeandcherrypie · 02/08/2019 14:29

Looks like just the cushions are saggy? Could you get them restuffed?

HeadintheiClouds · 02/08/2019 14:31

They all seem to go that way in the end. I’d never buy anything other than a solid back chesterfield again. Preferably with none removable seat cushions as well.

Nothing more annoying than having to basically rebuild the chair before you sit in it.

Twixes · 02/08/2019 14:31

Yeah I've thought about getting them re-stuffed, it's not expensive, but would it be a case of throwing good money after bad?

We have a Made sofa and it is the most comfortable sofa I’ve ever had. The cushions are foam though, not feather! I’d get foam cushions made to fit the covers you have if you like the style of it

Twixes · 02/08/2019 14:32

This is it after I've plumped the cushions. It's no better!

Buy a new one and get it scotchguarded

TonTonMacoute · 02/08/2019 14:36

All it would take is a bit of effort to plump up those back cushions and your sofa would look fine. You always have to plump up feather cushions, we do ours every night before we go to bed.

But if you can afford to buy a new one, go for it!

PhillyLift · 02/08/2019 14:37

The main part of the sofa looks fine - it's just those cushions. So I'd go for getting them restuffed first.

WhataLovelyPear · 02/08/2019 14:37

Oooh - the old one is really nice! I'd get the back cushions redone with foam inners, but you probably shouldn't take advice from me as I bought my current sofa in 1995.

Sonders · 02/08/2019 14:38

I have the same sofa in a different colour, and mine looks even saggier! Honestly the cushions just need restuffing, and you can have some foam inserted too to which will keep them more upright.

I've just been too lazy to get ours sorted 😝

HMArsey · 02/08/2019 14:40

Your old sofa is much nicer, get it stuffed! (I mean that nicely.)

TheFaerieQueene · 02/08/2019 14:41

I prefer your old sofa. Just get it re stuffed.

spacewitch99 · 02/08/2019 14:44

We’ve had ours for 14 years! My DP says plenty years left in it yet. And we have cats...few scratches on sides. Another reason DP doesn’t want a new sofa.
I am extremely envious of people who get new sofas every few years.

Bluntness100 · 02/08/2019 14:44

I'd agree your old sofa is much nicer. Get an upholstery cleaner guy in and get thr back restuffed, will look like new.

rosegoldwatcher · 02/08/2019 14:48

Foam stuffed backs would be very firm!
My M&S sofas have fibre filled back cushions which are soft enough to be comfortable but don't collapse like feather filled ones.

CadburySpira · 02/08/2019 14:49

I would go for re-stuffing with a mix of feather and foam rather than a new cheapo DFS jobby

CremeEggThief · 02/08/2019 14:49

What will you do with your existing sofa? I agree it looks a bit shabby, but personally, I couldn't replace furniture after 3 years, partly due to environmental concerns. I only replace items that are no longer fit for purpose and I think it's wasteful and harmful to replace due to boredom or redecoration or colour schemes etc.

thecatsthecats · 02/08/2019 15:03

Another vote for restuffing those cushions!

That's a lovely sofa, even though it needs a bit of attention.

The new one looks meh BEFORE it's gone saggy.
