She's a beauty!
What are the arrangements re her insurance? Do you have her date of birth (or even just month of), medical history, inoculation records, etc.?
We took in (on permanent loan) my best mate's 2 when they moved abroad on the understanding that they set up a standing order for food, paid insurance and vet bills, etc. They were only due to be gone a year or two. That was 6 years ago.
The older girl has since gone over the rainbow bridge (they paid that bill - she was over 20 years old when she came to us), the younger one is still with us, the standing order is the same, we now pay the insurance and they top up if she needs extra vet care. They're unlikely now to move back and we have acquired a permanent pet that they still pay towards.
They were happy the old girl had a relaxed retirement home with us that they couldn't have otherwise guaranteed. Old girl's ashes are in the drawer for them to bury/ scatter when they do move home if they want to. If they don't, then they'll go in her favourite sunny spot of our garden, but not till they decide.
They visit when they're in the country (us as well as the cat). If they ever do move back and want the cat back, it'll break our hearts but she is theirs and will go back to them. Younger cat's chip is still registered to them as her owners.
If Pepper's previous slaves have abandoned her to your care, then make sure you have all the necessary details to be able to insure her and if they don't want to pay for her upkeep, make sure you change her chip details to you. Use the chip details as a bargaining tool if you need to - they'll be responsible for the cost of her care if she's hurt off your premises.
Hope you and Pepper have a long, loving, playful and happy life together.
