To think this woman isn't coming back for her cat?

In October a friend of mine put out a call on Facebook for someone to look after a cat for a "couple of weeks"

It sounds like the woman concerned had to move for whatever reason and she said she would pay more than the cat's upkeep.

I took the lovely cat on called Pepper. Her son paid me £30 when she was dropped off and when the woman came to visit she paid me another £20.

I sent her regular updates and pictures of the cat. I haven't had a response since April. It's just dawned me that she hasn't even seen my messages.

Am I wrong to think that this woman isn't coming back? And I have strangely acquired a cat.

What a gorgeous cat.

I'd take her to the vet and see if she's chipped and spayed and take it from there.

You've had her for nine months, seems highly unlikely the woman is coming back for her now.

looondonn · 31/07/2019 23:48

My gosh what a beauty

Lucky to have you as a kind owner

Xxx

PancakeAndKeith · 31/07/2019 23:51

Well now you have a cat. Who could do that? If it was my girl I would be messaging twice a day.

darkriver19886 · 31/07/2019 23:52

@Raspberrytruffle love your pics. Would love a dog but only have permission for a cat.

As for arrangements, I don't think the original owner even knows! I think she said she was ten years old.

What a gorgeous girl. Keep her, spay her and get her chip updated. You’ve had her nearly a year, I’d say she’s yours now.

crazycatgal · 31/07/2019 23:55

Pepper is gorgeous, I'd say she's yours now!

GhostRidersInDisguise · 31/07/2019 23:58

If she goes out she would be pregnant by now so likely she is spayed. An unspayed female would keep you up all night calling for a mate and driving you crazy with the noise and naughtiness.

ozymandiusking · 01/08/2019 00:00

She is sooo pretty, and what a look! Is she good, I think it's a shame when people label them as "naughty torties.

SandAndSea · 01/08/2019 00:01

She's gorgeous!

Remember to get her checked for a microchip and see if she needs to be spayed.

You might well need to get her current microchip address details changed to yours. Where I live, there's a lady who runs a private cat rescue who can sort this sort of thing out for you.

SandAndSea · 01/08/2019 00:02

What I mean is, you might have a similar 'rescue person' near you who can help you.

Shinygoldbauble · 01/08/2019 00:05

You and I are kindred spiritss OP. Just updated my thread in the Litter Box. I've had someone else's cat in my house for 3 months now!

AcrossthePond55 · 01/08/2019 00:13

What a beauty!! I wouldn't want to give her back!!

Do you think, though, that there would be any way to 'finalize' your ownership? You don't want the person to show up in a year and demand the cat back.

sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea · 01/08/2019 00:14

I was supposed to be 'babysitting' a dog for a month. She ended up with us for six years until we had to have her PTS. I don't regret having her for a moment.

Pepper is beautiful - and yes, she is your cat now. Previous owner abandoned all care towards her.

DontDribbleOnTheCarpet · 01/08/2019 00:14

Is the previous owner active on Facebook? If not I'd be concerned that something had happened to her. But maybe she's just the kind of person who doesn't care. Either way, she's your cat now and she is lovely!

Mothership4two · 01/08/2019 00:16

It's lovely that you are going to keep her, but I would send a message telling her that just in case. It would be awkward if she did turn up trying to get her back, if unlikely. Mind you if she has only paid you £50 since October, she owes you a lot which she will probably just write off.

Lucky you, lovely cat

Similar thing happened to my niece but she ended up with a horse!

PurpleStripes · 01/08/2019 00:17

Oh my @Raspberrytruffle that second picture 😍😍

ReanimatedSGB · 01/08/2019 00:17

Well, the woman was bothered enough to find a cat-loving person to take care of the cat, and to pay some money towards feeding it. There may be all sorts of reasons why she hasn't been in touch or asked to have it back so, given that you are happy to look after it indefinitely, I would suggest you a) enjoy doing so but b) don't call the woman names or blame her.

WorraLiberty · 01/08/2019 00:22

but b) don't call the woman names or blame her.

Unless she's a) in a coma or b) dead, there's no excuse for going silent on the OP who agreed to take the cat on for a couple of weeks.

As gorgeous as the cat is, I'd very much be calling the woman names. That's a dreadful way to treat a caring person who's stepped in to help out.

ReanimatedSGB · 01/08/2019 00:25

There are a lot of good reasons why someone might do this. OP doesn't appear to know the woman all that well - suppose she got run over by a bus or something? Also, someone fleeing a really dangerous abuser might want to rehome the family pet (because they can't take it with them and are scared the abuser might hurt or kill it).

IncrediblySadToo · 01/08/2019 00:27

She’s gorgeous!

It’s an odd situation - to care enough to find her a good foster home, but not enough to stay in contact 💁🏻‍♀️

But Pepper wouldn’t be going anywhere now! & I’d be getting her chip sorted.

AltheaVestr1t · 01/08/2019 00:29

I would never give her back. She would have to prise her off my cold, dead body. I think she’s yours! Smile Thanks for the pics!

EinsteinsArousedSausagesHCB · 01/08/2019 00:31

Nah, she's not coming back, OP.

Same thing happened to a family member. Asked to look after 2 pets for a month, not cats. Didn't hear a peep from the owners, until a year-ish later when their mugshots were splashed across the local paper.

They did ask about visiting them, when released from prison. Didn't turn up though.

That was 13yrs ago. Family member still has the pets.

Cosentyx · 01/08/2019 00:37

She's yours now, and she's a very lovely moggie.

Andromeida59 · 01/08/2019 00:46

Congrats OP but for peace of mind I'd message the (former) owner setting a date for the cat to be picked up and payment made. If the owner doesn't pick up the cat, assume it's yours. You'd also have something in writing to show that you'd made attempts to resolve the situation.

ChiefClerkDrumknott · 01/08/2019 00:47

You belong to her now Grin

Pepper is gorgeous and it sounds like you’ve been a help to each other. Seems like kismet to me!
