Help! What can I wear to a christening tomorrow with only flip-flops or trainers?!

Ok so I've stupidly dropped a car part on my foot, nothings broken but my big toe is BLACK and v swollen all I can wear atm is open shoes like flip-flops or soft trainers. Any pressure and it feels like my nails sliding off... sorry for gross details

I have a christening and evening do to go to tomorrow and not a clue what to wear. Its not good weather so flip-flops will look daft, but trainers and a dress? Hmm

I was going to wear a lovely floral silky dress and nude patent heels but what can I do now? Can attach pics later if that'll help you work out what won't look bloody stupid! I'll look daft with my hobble anyway 😂

I’d go with the flip flops. At least when people see your toe they’ll know why you are wearing them.

Shockers · 27/07/2019 14:14

Do you have any dressy flip flops?

HennyPennyHorror · 27/07/2019 14:14

Have you got any loose, smart summer trousers? Long ones? Or a long dress? I'd go for flip flops over trainers!

Froucornball · 27/07/2019 14:19

I'm going to try and paint my toes so hopefully not as obvious 😬

Flip-flops would look better agreed. I'm away from home so my options are: said shoes, jeans, number of floaty/more dressy tops, a floral longer dress (would look fine with flip-flops because summery but it's meant to rain) and a blue low vneck floaty dress

Wear whichever dress is best on you...and which is longest! Who cares about the rain? If anyone comments, just display your toe at them!

Aggressively...to assert dominance. 😂

LIZS · 27/07/2019 14:22

What had you originally planned to wear? Could you find some flat sandals or blingier flipflops if the outfit is dressier?

Froucornball · 27/07/2019 14:23

Flip-flops are like this as opposed to foam esk (no dimantes just black leather straps)

Can someone nip out and get you some flip flops to go with your dress even vaguely? Places like asda and Sainsbury's tend to do cheap but dressyish ones that I wear with maxi dresses on holiday.

Seeline · 27/07/2019 14:25

I would wear what you had planned with whichever footwear is comfiest, and stuff what anyone thinks/says. I would also make sure I had taken some alternative comfy footwear incase my original choice turned out to be less comfy than originally thought!

TSSDNCOP · 27/07/2019 14:26

Go with the flops, can you put something over the minging toe though so people like me aren’t Envy

Camomila · 27/07/2019 14:28

I'd wear the flip flops with a big plaster over the toe/foot then everyone will see its because you've hurt yourself.

Froucornball · 27/07/2019 14:29

None are floor length unfortunately Angry all will display my beautiful new toe.. 😂

Originally I was going to wear this dress, I'll attach but I don't have it with me anyway because it's too dressy to wear with the shoes I have. (I'll also attach shoes I was going to wear 😭)

These flip flops look perfectly fine to wear with any dress

Froucornball · 27/07/2019 14:31

It doesn't need a plaster for emphasis unfortunately.. The black beauty stands out enough 😂😭

Don't worry TSS I'll paint em Wink

Wrap the toe in a clean white bandage, paint the rest and wear flip flops. Much better than seeing the bruising.

Froucornball · 27/07/2019 14:40

I can't stand the pressure from dressing it yet its too swollen and lifted. All that's bruised is my nail so it'll be alright without

How about a little box OP? Grin

Bless you, I’ve done similar, the pain was exquisite and vomtastic.

I am rather a wuss.

VenusTiger · 27/07/2019 14:47

I would rather people could see that I had damaged my toe, so they could work out why you’re wearing flats. I wouldn’t hide the fact you’d hurt your toe!

I went to a party yesterday and couldn’t wear my strapped shoes as I have a bloody massive itchy and painful bite on my ankle, so wore flip flops and some people commented on how sore my bite looked... made me feel better as I didn’t like wearing the flip flops!

How on earth are trainers more comfortable 🙈 when I broke my toe, I wore open toe shoes for weeks.... in winter!

Froucornball · 27/07/2019 14:57

But it's so gross to look at, really yuck I want to hide it hahah, I still have a hobble. Do you want to see? Grin

A little box is a fantastic idea! I'll just have to hope for no rain! 😂

Yeah it's truly awful, I wish wish wish it was broken instead of it being the nail because I'm so terrified of tearing it off 🤢 Will it fall off? Will it ever grow back? Will it grow back bent to fuck? Who knows! Sad

I often wear trainers with a dress and I don't care what anyone thinks. At the Chelsea Flower Show the elegant Sophie Raiworth wore something similar with dresses - if it's good enough for her it's good enough for you. Don't be embarrassed about it - it's more sensible than high heels in any case. Have a nice time.

Disfordarkchocolate · 27/07/2019 15:00

Lots of dresses look great with white trainers (not the sort you do running in though).

I used to play netball and twice stopped very sharply and then someone landed on my toe from a reasonable height, the combination of force from the end of my trainer plus the adult landing on them meant I lost the big toenail on each foot. They do grow back.

dottiedodah · 27/07/2019 15:24

Your nail will grow back!.I think flip flops will be fine TBH, most people will be cooing over the baby .Dont feel self concious about your foot ,no one will notice and if they do just tell them what happened !

MrsMozartMkII · 27/07/2019 15:26

I'd wear the trainers just in case someone stood on the ouchy toe!
