Kids in economy, Adults in Business ! Is this allowed !

Friend is taking her Grandchildren to the USA to holiday with their Dad. Dad lives full time on West Coast, it’s a long flight.
Granny and daughter/ Auntie have bought Business Class returns for themselves but Dad has paid for the 12 and 14 year old to sit in Economy.
Is this even allowed ? I know BA have ruled that no under 14’s can fly unaccompanied now. I don’t know who they are flying with but l can’t help feeling that this is unfair on the other passengers who will have 2 very lively unaccompanied kids amongst them for 14 hours.

It’s a wanker move but people do do it. I wouldn’t because kids are still humans, rather than luggage to put in the hold out of sight.

Why the hell would a 12 and 14 yr old be very lively and of any disturbance to other passengers? Would they not just watch TV and play games/sleep/eat like everyone else?

I think at 12 and 14 they're old enough to sit watch the films and not be a pain. At that age the extra space in business class would be wasted on them. I don't see a problem 🤷🏽‍♀️

It’s fine. Children travel unaccompanied at much younger ages. I assume a 12 and 14 year old can behave appropriately. Maybe that’s all the dad can afford?

I think this is fairly common.

Kevin's mum and dad did it in Home Alone, and that worked out fine.

I think it is quite sensible. The children will be smaller than adults so the smaller seats and leg room won’t be an issue and at 12 and 14 should be more than capable of behaving without an adults input.

I think it's vile not to travel together, but for a 12/14 yo there's no actual prohibition and they'll mostly be on their screens. For younger kids yes, it's hugely unfair on other travellers.

My parents did it with us. It’s not like they’re toddlers being left alone FGS.

At 12 and 14 they would be able to fly unaccompanied on many airlines. I would expect that kids of that age should be able to sit still and not cause any disturbance, it's not like they are toddlers.

On virgin unaccompanied children are classed as under 12 but 12-17 are young people travelling alone so yes can travel in economy while other family members travel in another cabin. Also a west coast flight is more like 10 1/2 hours not 14 so it's ready not too bad and they'll be fixated on the entertainment I would imagine!

They're in Economy, not the hold.

I think secondary age kids should be fine - they may actually prefer it.

12/14 year olds are happy to sit themselves with earplugs in, why does half of MN act like all kids up to 18 should be pandered to like toddlers? 🙄 My DD travels alone to visit her dad and is perfectly fine.

IMO. It’s a shit thing to do.
If the kids don’t mind, then that’s that.
Besides they don’t need extra room and their Dad can spend money saved for his kids to fly business class in actually spending time with kids.

Im talking metaphorically. You travel with your luggage in the hold without it having to inconvenience you. People who put their kids in economy while they travel business are the same. Its like saying “see you on the other side, I don’t care about your experience.”

Why is it a dick move? At 13 I would have loved to sit alone & would have been super excited to be going on holiday in general.

OP is describing 12/14 as if they’re toddlers in need of amusement, you come across it on countless threads.
More than likely in this case they can’t afford all to fly business, it’s no big thing.

When I travelled by ferry at that age with my siblings we would barely spend any time with our parents who would sit in a lounge or cabin for the journey.
