The before and after pic. I think I'm putting them on right? Yet they end up cutting into him.

He's 7 months, 91st for weight, 75th length so he's rather round. Big tummy and thighs.
10.3 kg and these are Aldi 5+

Looks way too small to me, the straps should get nearer to the centre than they are.

llangennith · 26/07/2019 10:52

Try pull ups again.

Idea86 · 27/07/2019 13:37

Hi,
My daughter also struggles from this she is 7 months and weighed 21lb's a couple of weeks ago, and is > 91st percentile for weight and >99 centile for height.

I've gotten around it by putting her in nappy pants. I use Rascal & Friends size 4 and they fit perfectly, with room to stretch. They're relatively cheap from Tesco and they are far superior to Pampers, without chemicals etc.

I've used Pampers pants too, and they fit well, she fits in size 4 or 5 without issue. I find them smell funny when she urinates in them and they're more expensive than R&F

Perhaps give them a try?

Starburst8 · 27/07/2019 14:24

Not wanting to derail the thread but I've seen a lot of comments about nappy pants. Are these better than normal nappies? As I previously commented up thread my boy is in size 4 (not for size just for absorbance). I don't know much about nappy pants. Thanks all

duebaby2 · 27/07/2019 14:42

I put my son in pampers nappy pants from aldi size 2's when we went up to 3's. They are a godsend. No leaks and will go a full 12hrs over night (son is 2 and a half now and he's been in them since at least 6 months). No chafing either.

I'm a bit confused by what you mean as to 'they gather in the middle'? You mean like when they've had a wee and it all collects in the middle? Doesn't every nappy do that though?

As for massive gaps either you've got the wrong size and it's too big or you haven't pulled out the frilly bits in the leg area. There meant to be stretchy but still be tight enough round the legs and belly, you'll find the elastic to hold everything sits further back from the end of the leg hole so can make it seem like there's a lot of space.

peachgreen · 29/07/2019 08:41

Nappy pants feel like they'd be much more comfortable. I find they're longer-lasting and they're much easier to put on a wriggly toddler!

BertieBotts · 29/07/2019 08:53

DS2 is like this. I think it is their shape, he is also 91st centile for weight, 75th for height/length. He was in size 4s at 9 months though, only just moved to size 5 at 11 months, but Aldi nappies are horrible, at least they are in Germany. And I definitely remember struggling with him when he was between sizes in nappies, it's worth looking around for

I find Pampers baby dry to be good and yes to "pants" style ones, though they are more expensive. I'm not sure about all the own brand ones in the UK any more because we are in Germany, but there is only one own brand I will use and that is DM (German equivalent of Boots). Look for a brand with an elasticated back. And don't worry about doing them up hugely tight. The tabs do NOT need to meet near the middle with a chunky baby. All you'll find with larger sizes is that the leg holes are bigger and gape more.

I also have a few cloth nappies which seem a bit more comfortable although they all leave red marks TBH. DS2 doesn't seem to mind.

BertieBotts · 29/07/2019 08:55

Starburst Nappy pants are just the same nappies but in the shape of pants rather than having tabs to do up. They are easier when you have a wriggly baby/toddler who refuses to lie still. You can still tear the sides to remove if they have done a poo.

As a bonus for chunky babies the waistband is much wider, rather than having a really thin little bit of sticky tab which seems to cut into them. (DS1 was a skinny thing so I have had both experiences :o)

BertieBotts · 29/07/2019 08:56

Sorry

It's worth looking around for... brands which have odd in-between sizing, like pampers have different weight bands to some other brands IME.

LakieLady · 29/07/2019 09:00

No advice about the nappies but your little chap looks like he has the perfect build for rugby!

limitedscreentime · 29/07/2019 09:01

Up a size - it seems you can go massively larger than recommended without risking leaks (helpful when kids are almost 2yrs apart and you don't want two sizes clogging the place up). Higher up at the back too.

Starburst8 · 29/07/2019 09:21

Thanks @bertie. I'll look into them 😊

PookieDo · 29/07/2019 09:24

Nappy pants. The elastic is much better than these ones with tabs once they are more mobile

KUGA · 29/07/2019 09:25

Next size or two up.

ollo · 29/07/2019 21:50

Boots and go a size up. Boots are nice and wide!

ollo · 29/07/2019 21:50

Or nappy pull ups.

username198817 · 29/07/2019 21:58

My lo is about the same size and also 7 months. We've been on pampers pull ups for ages now (size 4 still fit great)

Marshmallow91 · 29/07/2019 22:01

I second nappy pants. My LO uses pampers and they're great. She's only 9th centile all in, but with tiny legs and an big bum /belly. Anything else just causes problems

elderwand90 · 29/07/2019 22:09

You should try asda nappies DS is a chunky boy with chunky thighs and they seem to be the only nappies that fit him well. We found that the aldi ones were to narrow for him and did excatly that.

goose1964 · 29/07/2019 22:23

I found that nappy pants leaked around the legs for DGS (now 2 1/2)he's a well built child (not fat) and has only recently moved into size 5.
