Anyone else think that was possibly the smuggest walk into Downing Street ever?

Was I alone in praying she would trip up?

OP posts:

Well, if this cabinet can't do Brexit then no-one can. Interesting times.

PigeonofDoom · 25/07/2019 07:58

Bald faced liar does seem to be the predominant characteristic of the new cabinet, I see McVey is back in as well. You know it’s bad when you’re relieved to see Javid and Gove because they’re at least vaguely honest.

PigeonofDoom · 25/07/2019 08:00

The question will be what happens when they don’t deliver the brexit they’ve promised (which they can’t as they’ve lied through their teeth for the last three years). I’m really scared about this, there will be a lot of angry people.

urbanlife · 25/07/2019 08:01

It’s mind blowing scary to actually believe we can run our own country by democratically elected, accountable politicians just like the rest of the world?

Wow.

This argument has happened for the last four years, you need to get past it and upwards and onwards. Or relocate. But just STOP with the moaning and whining and hand wringing. You are an embarrassment.

urbanlife · 25/07/2019 08:02

You should be more fucking terrified quite frankly of what happens if Brexit doesn’t happen. Trust me.

Flyingquestion · 25/07/2019 08:04

These people are individually reprehensible. Collectively gruesome.

@smilethoyourheartisbreaking - collectively gruesome - sums things up perfectly, thank you.

LaurieMarlow · 25/07/2019 08:04

She’s a disgusting individual. Her comments about Ireland recently were a disgrace.

How anyone can defend her is beyond me, just shows you how many morally bankrupt people there are out there. Hmm

LaurieMarlow · 25/07/2019 08:05

You should be more fucking terrified quite frankly of what happens if Brexit doesn’t happen

Right Hmm

urbanlife · 25/07/2019 08:06

Yes right Laurie.

The80sweregreat · 25/07/2019 08:07

will this cabinet ' do ' brexit though? if they dont then the brexit party will get in and they will be even worse.
in a way, i hope they do can do something by the end of october and then see where we are.
i had anonther look at the dark side ( daily mail) about Priti patel and most comments were favourable about her - as i expected really. probably more so than comments about the new PM.
i still think shell go after the top job one day.

bellinisurge · 25/07/2019 08:07

So those ERG wasters should have compromised as I and plenty of others on here have done and back WA to get Brexit done.
Or put a border in the sea and make NI a special economic zone. All these things I am prepared to support.
Boring "get over it" whinges are the out of date arguments.
And, no, I don't want a useless Home Secretary.

jasjas1973 · 25/07/2019 08:12

Threats of violence from the far right... no surprises there!

i'm terrified of the over 60s rampaging through the land looting and raping their way through remainer heartlands... will be like Bosnia all over again.

IF Brexit doesn't happen, its because our democratically elected Govt and parliament decided its not in our national interest.

urbanlife · 25/07/2019 08:14

Because it would mean we no longer live in a democracy, and then what happens then?

A complete breakdown in society, and the power structures that support us and keep us safe. We would effectively be a post democratic society, tethered indefinitely as a satellite to an ever closer union that is the burgeoning autocratic EU superstate.
If THAT doesn’t terrify you then I don’t know what will.

You are far far too complacent.

Whilst the EU commission plans it’s EU armies, fiscal structures, banking and forcing other countries to sign up for what now amounts to a German led autocracy/superstate.
You are quibbling about student gap years and summer gites in France.
It’s really quite astonishing.

The very least you can do is educate yourself about the EU commission and understand it properly, before giving it your bile riddled full throttled support.

GrammarTeacher · 25/07/2019 08:15

I don't want a Home Secretary who suggests starvation as a foreign policy technique. Nor one that doesn't understand her party's policies. Nor one that ignores constituents.

GrammarTeacher · 25/07/2019 08:16

Urban. We've had to beg the EU for naval support in Iran because the US wouldn't help.
We had a veto on the formation of the EU army.

MaxNormal · 25/07/2019 08:17

urban thanks for the demonstration. Far right Brexit lunacy writ large. No care for ethics or even facts. Just blind fanatisicm and all morals utterly compromised.

jasjas1973 · 25/07/2019 08:26

Urban

We would effectively be a post democratic society

Don't be ridiculous! do you have any idea how many election manifesto pledges DON'T happen?
The bedrock of democracy is that we all have the chance to change our minds... you deny that.

the EU commission plans it’s EU armies, fiscal structures, banking and forcing other countries to sign up for what now amounts to a German led autocracy/superstate

Which we and others can veto, the UK is /was part of the EU and formulates plans and ideas.
Of course the UK needs EU ships to protect our interests in the 'Gulf.

You would tie us to the USA, a country and policies that we have zero say in.

Not sure anyone so far has talked about gites and gap years - evidence?

urbanlife · 25/07/2019 08:26

I have nothing to do with the far right, I am politically entirely neutral.

The Corbyn champagne lefties collectively outraged on here now that their remain government has finally expired makes for jovial reading through.

GrammarTeacher · 25/07/2019 08:27

What? Teresa May was a Corbynite! What the what now?

Notonthestairs · 25/07/2019 08:28

Just posted this on the wrong thread....

As I understand it Priti Patel held covert meetings with Israeli government officials (according to reports to funnel money to the Israeli army). Done with out the approval of the FCO - in fact carried out deliberately behind their backs and dressed up as a holiday!

Priti Patel was forced to resign for good reason. Personally I think if you've had to leave your job for misleading your own party/government there should be no way back (and that applies to all the parties).

But id like to add 1) The justice system is being run on a shoe string. Budgets have been cut by successive governments. It is struggling and we should all be worried about this. Have a look at The Secret Barrister's book if you are interested. The idea of adding capital punishment to an already run down system scares me.

  1. Suggesting we starve Ireland in to submission was just appalling. No good blaming it on failing education standards/lack of history. If you are interested in politics a good starting point should be understanding our relationships and history with our nearest neighbours. Just wrong.
jasjas1973 · 25/07/2019 08:32

GrammarTeacher

Didn't you know that Corbyn and May toured Europe on an old motorbike years ago... its true and an alternative fact, i'm also politically neutral lol!

urbanlife · 25/07/2019 08:33

I would not tie us to any country US or otherwise. That’s the whole point Sherlock, we finally manage to be independent.

A new alliance with the Swiss should be the starting point for financial services, the commonwealth for trade agreements, and the world for business and enterprise.

The world is much much bigger than the EU.

I love Europe. I am here now, and have heard nothing but support for Brexit (Rome) it’s only the small but loud around the M25 that aren’t behind us now!!!
We just travelled down through France and even the French are at pains to point out the EU commission is going the wrong way with even more integration!

The only people that can’t see it, are the small pool of remainers screeching from the roof tops about their second homes.

ScarletAnemone · 25/07/2019 08:36

You should be more fucking terrified quite frankly of what happens if Brexit doesn’t happen. Trust me.

Splutters on cornflakes.

urbanlife · 25/07/2019 08:38

According to you remainers, there won’t be any cornflakes going forward, so make the most of them!

(Unless of course you know, like the rest of us, it is all lies and kite wash)

FlashingLights101 · 25/07/2019 08:41

@urbanlife

You should be more fucking terrified quite frankly of what happens if Brexit doesn’t happen. Trust me.

Why should we trust you? What do you know that the rest of the country doesn't? I suspect nothing, I think you are doing exactly what you are accusing others of doing: scaremongering. Because it suits your narrative to believe everything will be rosy in Post-Brexit Britain. Maybe it will, but a lot of people aren't prepared to just have blind faith in that, just because they want it to be true. People are looking at the impact it has already had and are genuinely concerned about what may happen in the future.

Looking at a politician's track record and judging her accordingly is totally normal. Just because you like 'Ms Patel', it doesn't mean others can't hold her accountable for her past actions.

Just out of interest, how would you describe Jeremy Corbyn and the Labour party? In a short paragraph? Because for all your 'we shouldn't talk disrespectfully about our leaders', I'm willing to bet your wouldn't talk about 'Mr Corbyn' in polite and restrained terms. Because he doesn't stand.fornwhatbyou believe in. It's a 2 way street. And criticism of Priti Patel has nothing to do with her being a woman, or Asian for that matter. It really has become ridiculous that we cannot criticise women without being called misogynistic. News flash, women can be flawed too.
