Anyone else think that was possibly the smuggest walk into Downing Street ever?

Was I alone in praying she would trip up?

Flyingquestion · 24/07/2019 22:15

Read extracts from her book with Truss, Raab and Kwarteng- ‘Britannia Unchained’ to get a feel for what’s being planned. They have no time for the economically inactive. If you’re poor, they believe it’s your fault.

Oh dear God they’ve written a book?

NCforthis2019 · 24/07/2019 22:15

i don't mind some of her policies - the lying i can't get on-board with though.

HorridHenrysNits · 24/07/2019 22:18

That's the sort of thing I was referring to up thread NCforthis. One can be pro capital punishment or whatever whilst also being concerned about the secret meetings with Yair Lapid.

MintChocAddict · 24/07/2019 22:18

Yes, let's support all women without question for simply being women, despite their hateful views and lying past behaviour.

What a sensible well thought out argument.

Imaystillbedrunk · 24/07/2019 22:19

Sigh, she is my MP, if I lived on the other side of my road I'd have James Cleverly.... I wish I lived in a political vacuum

PatchworkElmer · 24/07/2019 22:20

The cabinet is like a who’s who of nasty Tories.

Provincialbelle · 24/07/2019 22:21

I supported gay marriage but wouldn’t be so harsh on her for not doing so. Most religious groups did not; it doesn’t make them inherently evil or homophobic. No mainstream gay pressure groups were asking for it before quite recently.

The death penalty I strongly disagree with but again others can have their opinion.

The Irish starving argument was painful but reflects j suspect how badly history is taught these days; I have met countless products of the modern education system who don’t know the most basic facts of world history.

The lying, well that’s another matter. (Incidentally, contrary to some posters the fact she is Asian and female is irrelevant).

VladmirsPoutine · 24/07/2019 22:21

I haven't RTFT yet but I will. Just wanted to add that she is awful. Her politics are abysmal.

MollysMummy2010 · 24/07/2019 22:22

I am scared and saddened by the line. If this is the best the country has to offer we are in trouble.

NCforthis2019 · 24/07/2019 22:22

@HorridHenrysNits - i agree. I actually support the death penalty (personal reasons) so i have no issue for her supporting this. But as you said, there are elements of her i won't and cant agree with.

@Flyingquestion

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Britannia_Unchained

Extract: The British are among the worst idlers in the world. We work among the lowest hours, we retire early and our productivity is poor. Whereas Indian children aspire to be doctors or businessmen, the British are more interested in football and pop music".

themmatricc · 24/07/2019 22:28

Yes, let's support all women without question for simply being women, despite their hateful views and lying past behaviour. well you attacked the way she walked in youre op but that is a great logical argument for the record id say the same if labour ever elected a female leader but they never have

Supersimpkin · 24/07/2019 22:29

Didn't PP 'resign' for corruption and then 'resign' for lying?

She's been caught more than once. Crooked and stupid. Them's the facts.

GPatz · 24/07/2019 22:29

This is not a Terminal user1491678180, you don't need to announce your departure.

The future in these hands. Frightening.

Iggly · 24/07/2019 22:30

There should be no name calling which targets Priti purely on the basis of her being female.

By the same token I expect no favouritism because she’s a woman.

Let’s tackle and critique her clearly inadequate and poor record as a cabinet member and politician.
That gives us plenty to go on.

Alsohuman · 24/07/2019 22:32

Logic isn’t your strong point is it @themmatricc?

This....

I'm so frustrated. It should be good news to see women in high office.

I don't have to agree with their politics or stance on a specific issue.

What enrages me is to see far more capable women passed over for a politician whose track record is well below mediocre wrt performance.

MintChocAddict · 24/07/2019 22:41

themmatricc I didn't atteck the way she walked, I commented on her incredibly smug demeanour as she walked towards no. 10
Having being caught out as a liar in her previous Govt post I felt she should have been a little more humble and in fact not been there at all, but I don't think that would be something that she (or you) would understand.

OP posts:
workhelp1 · 24/07/2019 22:54

She was my local MP until I moved house. I don't think she cares what her constituents think at all. Can't believe she's back in Sad

longwayoff · 24/07/2019 23:00

Happily I've avoided seeing the smugfest of Johnson appointees strutting into their appointed place. Patel is beyond description but I'm comforting myself that she is venal and grasping as well as dishonest so I expect her tenure to be short. I'm hoping the rest of the new cabinet, equally dreadful people, will soon be fighting amongst themselves like cats in a sack, walking out in huffs, unable to do the dirty deal and leave the floor clear for reason. Hmm. One can but hope.

endofthelinefinally · 24/07/2019 23:48

It is the lying that is a worrying pattern of behaviour.
Dishonesty is one of the worst character flaws IMO.

bellinisurge · 25/07/2019 06:25

"The Irish starving argument was painful but reflects j suspect how badly history is taught these days; I have met countless products of the modern education system who don’t know the most basic facts of world history. "

No excuse. She's a politician. I expect a politician to have, at some point in their lives, come across reference to the Famine.

GrammarTeacher · 25/07/2019 06:35

I didn't learn about the potato famine in school. Still know it happened.

Dongdingdong · 25/07/2019 06:41

I supported gay marriage but wouldn’t be so harsh on her for not doing so.

Really? I would. We all should.

I disagree with bringing back the death penalty but if I would like to see harsher sentencing for the worst criminals.

Dongdingdong · 25/07/2019 06:42

There’s a random “if” in my last comment - sorry.
