LUSH Products - waste of money or great?

So I've never really used any of their products, except on particular cream for baby's eczema. I was stocking up yesterday and had a little browse at their other products and got chatting to the salesperson.

Ended up buying Shampoo/conditioning Bar, facial primer/oil bar and a soap bar.
I'm pretty excited about them as they seem to have a few massive advantages re reducing plastic use and travel liquid problems. Used them this morning and am pretty impressed!
DH however is not impressed and thinks I've just been 'sold' a few overpriced soap bars that I would never buy normally. I do have a tendency to be a bit gullible like this and have made my fair share of wasted purchases! But this time I'm hopeful I've proved him wrong and I'll convert to no plastic/solid alternatives. Any views from those who have more experience of Lush products? AIBU in thinking they will be an excellent replacement?

Waste of money for me.

Pinktinker · 24/07/2019 08:40

I have plenty of friends who swear by their products. I couldn’t personally afford to use 100% Lush, it’s so expensive! I buy the odd bath bomb here and there, smell good and look cute but I suppose they are a bit of a waste.

BlueScreen171 · 24/07/2019 08:40

Waste of money for me also.

FudgeBrownie2019 · 24/07/2019 08:40

The heavy perfumes make me itch, especially in the bath bombs.

ButterflyBitch · 24/07/2019 08:40

Waste of money. They’re all full of glitter and sls which is bad for your skin and they’re not as natural as they like to say. I’ve found much better products elsewhere that don’t cost half as much.

user87382294757 · 24/07/2019 08:41

I love ultra bland for skin (helps spots) and their henna bars for hair - it really improves my mood and i love using them.

elprup · 24/07/2019 08:42

The first one.

StVincent · 24/07/2019 08:42

I think some of their products (cleansers and moisturisers) are excellent and the only thing that keeps my really dry skin happy. The soaps are nice too. They are quite pricey but they’re not made out of crap. Others I’m less keen on but it’s not a rip off for the core products IMO.

GruciusMalfoy · 24/07/2019 08:43

I think they're often overpriced, and are far too highly scented for me.

goodgirlinchachaheels · 24/07/2019 08:44

Not everything is great, but I would highly recommend their face masks such as mask of Magnanimity.

WhatTheAbsoluteFuck · 24/07/2019 08:45

I love their charcoal face scrub, the Sleepy showergel and moisturiser.

I’ve had shampoo and conditioner from there before and didn’t rate it at all.

DC love the bathbombs. But I never throw a whole one in because the stink and the discolouration in the bath is ridiculous.

taylorowmu · 24/07/2019 08:45

I use a bar of dove and it does the same job. Pack of 4 for £2 Grin

I'm not a cheapskate, and I have tried lots of products from various places, lush included, but I haven't found anything that makes a difference so o just use dove these days!

OtraCosaMariposa · 24/07/2019 08:47

I like their solid shampoo bars. That's about it.

NoCauseRebel · 24/07/2019 08:48

How anyone can even go into their shops is beyond me.

howwudufeel · 24/07/2019 08:48

I like their Full of Grace serum bars. I also used their Sleepy cream which does really work.

coffeeforone · 24/07/2019 08:50

Thanks for the replies! Maybe DH is right after all Sad. The smell of the store really puts me off and I think I was given a couple of bath bombs as a teenager that were basically just glitter, so haven't bought any bath bombs since.

But looking past all the bath bombs I was hopeful that the everyday use products I bought might be a better option than my normal plastic-bottled liquids. But on the other hand (DH's words) if they were that great why isn't everyone already using these solid bars?!

It is overpriced but, unless you’re buying supermarket own brand toiletries, isn’t most stuff? I often buy their shampoo bars as I like how they leave my hair, and the occasional bath bomb. My bathroom always smells nice when I have lush stuff in too.

snowbear66 · 24/07/2019 08:52

The founder used to work for the body shop.
I think of it as similar but aimed at a younger market.

TheJellyBabyMadeMeDoIt · 24/07/2019 08:52

I can't give money to a company that is run by a bastard who will promote political views all over the shop windows and leave his low paid staff on the front line to face up to the fall-out. Regardless of the good intentions, I know several shop staff who were verbally abused for the company's perceived anti-police stance, when their only crime was turning up for work to earn a wage.

Guardian story

So I've personally not shopped there since. I just can't hand my money over to that man and his "good intentions"

mushroomwall · 24/07/2019 08:55

I use Ultrabland - noticeably better skin when I do and I've never said that about anything before. I also use Rub Rub all over and again, my skin is smooth for days. I used Ocean Salt but the alcohol made my face go strangely pale though they do an alcohol free version online. A friend's son uses Coal Face and it's reduced his acne. Bought Rosy Cheeks recently but won't be re-buying. I do love a seaweed bath bomb once in a while. Won't try hair products and find the moisturisers too pricey.

Crotchgoblins · 24/07/2019 08:59

I love them! Yes they are expensive, but they are using essential oils and I think they are good quality. Their ethical stance and values I also agree with. I don't use it for everything and tend to get given stuff for Christmas so it's like a treat.

My personal favourites are enzymion face cream ( the only cream that didn't bring me out in spots for a long time). I love the shampoo bars, bath bombs ( since having children sadly I don't get time for many)

I also love going in the shop!!

megletthesecond · 24/07/2019 08:59

I worked there for years and still use the skin care products and soap. They're not cheap but the ingredients are good and they save money by not using fancy packaging. Bath bombs are nice but expensive.

And yy to thejelly, I'd love to go back and do Xmas work but being the low paid frontline for managements lunatic whims and campaigns isn't appealing. It's disgraceful what they expect the young shop floor staff to put up with. Someone should start a lush campaign about that Wink.

witheringrowan · 24/07/2019 08:59

The like a virgin cleanser is amazing. I've decided I'm happy to pay a little more for their products because of the added benefits of it being plastic free.

Saltisford · 24/07/2019 09:00

I have eczema/very dry skin and the ‘Dream Cream’ moisturiser is one of the best out there for me. I use it in a variety of ways - on my body or as a night cream on my face. It’s great as after sun too. My lips are extremely dry and I use the ‘honey something’ lip balm which is quite strong unlike other lip balms out there. If you take back five empty pots, you get a free face scrub and I’ve found these to be great too.

I must admit though that the bath bombs are soooooooo pricey especially as you can’t use them sparingly and are a one-use product.

I also don’t appreciate being chatted up by the shop staff every time I go in - they’re way too happy!!!!!

Ninabean17 · 24/07/2019 09:02

I used to use Angels on Bare Skin and Ultrabland. Then I went a few months without it, started using them again and I broke out in spots. Had to stop using them and go back to Simple, never broken out like that before, even as a teenager! Also the smell of it all just gives me a headache, no idea how anyone could work in there!
