LUSH Products - waste of money or great?

So I've never really used any of their products, except on particular cream for baby's eczema. I was stocking up yesterday and had a little browse at their other products and got chatting to the salesperson.

Ended up buying Shampoo/conditioning Bar, facial primer/oil bar and a soap bar.
I'm pretty excited about them as they seem to have a few massive advantages re reducing plastic use and travel liquid problems. Used them this morning and am pretty impressed!
DH however is not impressed and thinks I've just been 'sold' a few overpriced soap bars that I would never buy normally. I do have a tendency to be a bit gullible like this and have made my fair share of wasted purchases! But this time I'm hopeful I've proved him wrong and I'll convert to no plastic/solid alternatives. Any views from those who have more experience of Lush products? AIBU in thinking they will be an excellent replacement?

I used to love the shampoo bars but now get just as good ones for a fraction of the cost from eBay or amazon.

zurigirl · 24/07/2019 20:41

@bee222 I didn't understand that comment either Hmm

mercilousming · 24/07/2019 20:50

I'm a senior retail manager, and worked for Lush about 12 years ago. Some of the products are okay but way overpriced. I got loads of free shit that couldn't be sold (dented bath bombs, pots of stuff with a scoop taken out etc). A bath bomb stained my bath so badly, it was irretrievable! They treat Leadership well, but staff are treated like shit. We employed a load of Xmas temps, 2 weeks in had to test them on product knowledge (what is the first listed product in blah product etc - hard!) and if they got less than 26/30, fired on the spot. Great company!

HearMeSnore · 24/07/2019 20:59

Over-priced, over-scented and not nearly as "ethical" as they make themselves out to be.

One of their bath bombs gave me a horrendous rash from the waist down and stained my bath. After a year of scrubbing, it still looked faintly blue when I moved out. God knows what it had in it.

If I ever get the urge to smell like I've hosed myself down with Toilet Duck maybe I'll give them another go...

ErrolTheDragon · 24/07/2019 21:04

I'm not particularly sensitive to scents, but have to cross the road or hold my breath to get past a Lush. Something about it catches my throat.

ysmaem · 24/07/2019 21:16

I love their cleansers and exfoliaters especially ocean salt but they are a bit overpriced tbh.

Cryalot2 · 24/07/2019 21:26

They have a shampoo bar ( can't remember the name ) It was a whitish colour with bits in and round. I used it when my scalp was a bleeding mess of psoriasis and it worked wonders..Also bought a solid conditioner and a shower wash .I liked some of the soaps . But found them except and the one I used moved .

Poloshot · 24/07/2019 21:59

Can't stand the place

Craftycorvid · 24/07/2019 22:22

I actually like the standard shop ‘smell’ Blush. I use their henna plus other bits and bobs - by the way, their 9-5 cleanser is essentially the old (and deeply missed) Body Shop staple Orchid oil cleanser. They are quite pricey. I do get peeved with the amount of unnecessary debris in the bath bombs (DH once spent ages slowly picking bits of glitter from his facial hair after using the bath after me). I have heard very mixed reports of how the staff are treated. I do feel they are to be applauded for aiming to be packaging-free and palm oil free. And you can sign me up behind any peaceful protest but point taken around timing and the fact staff will get it taken out on them. The sheer force of the chirpiness with which one is greeted in store is a little suspicious and I do wonder about that!

jencottage · 24/07/2019 22:38

I was a sceptic but their oat body & face cream / matching shower cream and the cheapest bath bomb (can't remember what they are called) are fantastic

Instagran · 25/07/2019 09:45

@bee222 @zurigirl I am anti-fox hunting. However some of the tactics used by hunt saboteurs are deplorable. They endanger the health and life of the horses, dogs and riders and for this reason I won't support them.

@Thebatswhiskers

She uses I Love Juicy shampoo and Veganese Conditioner and her hair is gorgeous

HopelessLayout · 25/07/2019 10:19

I treated myself to a Bath Bomb once—what an overpriced disappointment! I thought it was going to turn the bathwater into something wonderful... it fizzled away and I was left with a bunch of petals floating around getting in my hair.

Nowadays I can't stand to go near the shop because of the smell, so I'm never tempted to buy anything. I'll stick my to Clarins skincare products and glycerin soap for the bath.

Areyoufree · 25/07/2019 10:21

I love the charcoal face scrub, and some of their shampoos.

However, their bath bombs are famous for causing thrush...

kitandkaboodle28 · 25/07/2019 10:29

Some of them are great, others not so much. And it's very expensive finding out which work for you!

I use a shampoo from there that is great but a lot of the masks and moisturisers aren't that special. The bath bombs are an expensive novelty and I've sworn not to buy one again after the last one I got turned out to be a jelly bomb which blocked my drains and made me all slimy after!

Thebatswhiskers · 25/07/2019 12:04

@BathshebaKnickerStickers Thank you so much!

ElizaPancakes · 25/07/2019 12:07

I really like some of it and others not so much. The massage bars are nice, but like everything in there, I consider it a ‘treat’. I buy a four pack of Palmolive almond soaps for the shower and have the occasional Lush one; never buy bath bombs and I hate their hair stuff. Face stuff is nice but too perfumed for me.

Wormentrude · 25/07/2019 12:19

I love Ultrabland (go-to when my skin misbehaves), Big Hair shampoo, and American Cream conditioner. I do also have the American Cream shower gel, but it doesn't smell quite the same.

U2HasTheEdge · 25/07/2019 12:21

I love Lush.

There are products I don't like but many that I love and wouldn't want to be without.

Bathbombs might smell too strong etc but there are so many other products which are not strong smelling and work really well.

BishopBrennansArse · 25/07/2019 12:27

I use sleepy lotion, peppermint foot lotion, skindrink moisturiser and vanishing cream moisturiser and their honey trap lip balm.... expensive but lasts bloody months (I can generally get a year out of them)
