LUSH Products - waste of money or great?

So I've never really used any of their products, except on particular cream for baby's eczema. I was stocking up yesterday and had a little browse at their other products and got chatting to the salesperson.

Ended up buying Shampoo/conditioning Bar, facial primer/oil bar and a soap bar.
I'm pretty excited about them as they seem to have a few massive advantages re reducing plastic use and travel liquid problems. Used them this morning and am pretty impressed!
DH however is not impressed and thinks I've just been 'sold' a few overpriced soap bars that I would never buy normally. I do have a tendency to be a bit gullible like this and have made my fair share of wasted purchases! But this time I'm hopeful I've proved him wrong and I'll convert to no plastic/solid alternatives. Any views from those who have more experience of Lush products? AIBU in thinking they will be an excellent replacement?

Apart from the bath bombs covering the entire house with glitter, I’ve been really happy with their products. I love their Daddy-O purple shampoo which smells of violets.

Sceptre86 · 24/07/2019 09:58

Stepping into the store sets off my migraines so I have always avoided it. If you like the products you bought and can afford them then I don't see a problem!

tadpole39 · 24/07/2019 09:58

Yes!! Daddy o shampoo brilliant for my grey hair!! Feels like ive just had it blow dried it’s so bouncy. Don’t know about any other product!

Sandybval · 24/07/2019 10:13

They're not a waste of money if you like and enjoy them, but if it's just as you feel you don't want to be using plastic etc there are other cheaper options. A lot of health food shops have bars and refill schemes, and the brands have similar ethos.

BoomyBooms · 24/07/2019 10:18

I love lush and I have nearly always found their products to be great! Just ignore all the bath bombs and the really brightly coloured/glittery stuff as that's a gimmick for the teenagers. Their skincare is the real deal.

Firstly their products are nearly all natural and free of chemicals, and a lot of low plastic ideas too. Also vegan products available. So ethically I think they are pretty great.

I really rate their face cleansers, imperialis moisturiser is the best I have ever used and makes my skin look amazing, the toners are really effective, the shower gels and soaps are moisturising and smell lovely, the shampoo and conditioners are great quality too. I use several of their face masks but never pay because I always exchange old tubs for them. I use their body sprays and like knowing I'm not putting chemicals all over myself.

The only thing I've been disappointed in have been one or two of their bar shampoos, which I've either gotten through really quickly or not noticed particular benefit.

They are pricey but for me it's worth it, and I'm happy with how long everything lasts. Its certainly still cheaper than a lot of other high end beauty ranges!

Coralfish · 24/07/2019 10:19

I use their shampoo bars and face soap. They last me ages so I find them relatively good value for money, and I have yet to find a shampoo bar that I like from anywhere else. But the same with any beauty counter, there is an awful lot that you could buy that I feel I do not personally 'need', so it depends whether you want them or not!

Dapplegrey · 24/07/2019 10:23

I can't give money to a company that is run by a bastard who will promote political views all over the shop windows and leave his low paid staff on the front line to face up to the fall-out.

Baby soap - 35p, ASDA.

Can't imagine spending £80 every 2 months for shampoo and conditioner.

Palmer's olive oil shampoo and conditioner changed my hair. No sulphates, mineral oil, parabens. It's amazing. Costs £4 each and lasts probably 4 months.

It just depends what you like, doesn't it? I find the smell overpowering so I don't go into the shop, although there are several products I'd like to try (ultrabland, etc).

I don't use bath bombs or bath oils as I think it'd make a huge mess. Prefer just cream shower gel.

Looking4wards · 24/07/2019 10:36

I use to love Lush products. But found out I'm allergic to something in their products, so if you have sensitive skin I'd be careful. My doctor told me to stop using their products (bath bombs, bubble bars, scrubs, oils and soaps) and my skin is definitely a lot better now.
Also it's v v expensive for what it is. A bath bomb is easily £4... £4 for a bath, I can't afford that too many times.

Gotthetshirt23 · 24/07/2019 10:45

Massive fan of many products until the anti police marketing.
Never ever again including gifts for others - hope Lush staff see this thread and pass it upwards !

Noseyparker85 · 24/07/2019 10:53

Another one who refuses to shop their - don't agree with the 'charities' that their profits support.

Luckingfovely · 24/07/2019 10:53

Way over priced

Madein1995 · 24/07/2019 10:55

I love lush stuff although I only discovered it a few years ago. I'm into showers more than baths, I love the avocado shower gel, the American cream and the dreamy one. It is expensive when you consider a bottle from Tesco is like 2 or 3 quid, bit they are worth it. A real luxury. 😀

WellTidy · 24/07/2019 11:07

My local Lush doesn't have any bath bombs at the moment for less than £5.95. There are loads on the website for £3.95 (which is still expensive for a single use product) but I think it is shocking that in school holidays, when more kids will be going in, they don't have any for less than £5.95. My DS (11yo) loves a bath bomb as he goes all Nutty Professor scientist with them, but £5.95 is extortionate.

WellTidy · 24/07/2019 11:07

I really like their Rose Jam shower gel. It used to only be available at Christmas, but i think it is more year round now.

phoenixrosehere · 24/07/2019 11:08

I enjoy their products and like the many options they have, especially the amount of travel-friendly. I also like I can return the containers once finished.

In terms of the “anti-police” thing, I remember it was about them highlighting a certain issue regarding the undercover police not the police force as a whole. Lush just went about it the wrong way.

Sugarformyhoney · 24/07/2019 11:16

I love the charcoal soap and angels on bare skin. I like the bubble bars too. It’s expensive compared to supermarket stuff but cheaper than a lot.
I really like how friendly and welcoming the staff are to my teenagers and their friends- rare in a high st shop.

lharris1 · 24/07/2019 11:20

Overpriced, so many other better skincare brands
I have eczema so can’t use heavily fragrances products

InvisibleHamster · 24/07/2019 11:21

I sometimes break the bath bombs up for multiple goes but it's not always successful!

I like the shampoo bars. The bubble bars work well too once you understand you can crumble just a tiny bit in each time (I'm sure I used to put about half a bar in, what a waste!). I like the Buffy scrub too.

It is very expensive, but the shop must be doing something right as it never has sales/offers/free postage compared to say the Body Shop which is always doing one offer or another.

WellTidy · 24/07/2019 12:19

They always have a sale after Christmas Invisible. My local store has queues to get in sometimes. They do an online sale too, which has a crazy long virtual queue to join.

DuchessAnnogovia · 24/07/2019 17:19

I can't even go into the shop, because everything is so highly scented. My eyes itch like crazy and my nose runs x

Xyzzzzz · 24/07/2019 17:22

I love their dream cream have used it for years as a moisturiser. Worth the investment for me personally.

PristineCondition · 24/07/2019 17:28

Its transformed my 8 year olds eczema!

He used to be covered in different creams and steroids but he uses the dream cream and their mild shampoos
Theres even a few bathbombs he can use to for a treat without breaking out

Those saying its overpriced what are you comparing it to? Even supermarkets mid ranges aren't much cheaper and you get what you pay for

keepingbees · 24/07/2019 17:29

I got a Lush gift set for my birthday. The soaps dried my skin and didn't smell nice. One had lumps of lavender that got everywhere and blocked the plug hole. The shower gels smelt disgusting and separated after a few weeks so threw them out. The body butter and foot cream in tubs grew mould a couple of weeks after opening so were also thrown out. Wouldn't bother again.
