I'm having nightmares a lot recently, in which this is the culmination of a long term plan to cull the weak, the poor and the needy. My waking self worries than anyone who is not already very, very rich or necessary to the very, very rich is fucked.
I wish I could see any optimism in this, I really do. BJ being PM would be difficult but survivable for most people. BJ being PM and being allowed to play with Brexit is like asking your toddler to replace the plumbing in your house and lighting a blowtorch for him in case he needs it.

ItsAlright the population of mumsnet isn't the same as the population as a whole though. There are lots of mumsnetters from London (voted remain) and I'd guess most of us are 'baby and school age DC mum age'...20s to 40s. Younger people were more likely to vote remain.

Unlike Trump, I guess Boris is more socially liberal at least? - clutches at straws -

MustardScreams · 23/07/2019 12:56

I bloody knew Tories were good for nothing. What possessed them to vote for this racist, sexist, homophobic pig of a man?!

PickleC · 23/07/2019 12:56

A man who has been exposed as a serial liar and who was spectacularly incompetent as Foreign Secretary now needs to lead us through multiple crises and delicate negotiations while working with an extremely divided Parliament. Oh yeah. This won't end up in a dumpster fire.

noodlenosefraggle · 23/07/2019 12:56

I'm quite pleased he's done it. It was only ever going to be him anyway, but now the brexiteers have got what they want, let's see what they say now. Boris out of the two of them is the only one who could possibly bring the WA back to Parliament with some load of old flannel and allow everyone to pretend it's something different. We've already started on the road to blaming remainers for the mess to come with the 'time for us all to pull together' rhetoric. Then when inevitably, we don't pull together in a crisis because half the country have willingly and enthusiastically dumped us all into years of economic hardship and a fractured society for possibly a generation, it will be because remainers didn't do enough to help 'bring the country together'

CuriousaboutSamphire · 23/07/2019 12:56

There is no law saying that you can’t have a second vote on something years later when it has become clear that the thing people voted for is substantially different to what they were led by the proven lies and rule breaking of others to believe it would be. That only makes sense if the initial 'thing' is actioned. Otherwise there is bugger all reason to vote for anything... nothing will ever change, just in case!

BarbedBloom · 23/07/2019 12:57

If there is another referendum I am off to Scotland if they'll have me. If we end up with no deal then I am off, either back to Scotland or will go teach abroad again. We will see what happens but given he is a racist misogynist, I don't have high hopes

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 23/07/2019 12:57

@MustardScreams - remember this is the man that Londoners (and presumably a fair number not natural Tory voters) voted for as Mayor...

VivienneHolt · 23/07/2019 12:59

Nonsense. I cannot accept that when the majority of people voted for Brexit, they wanted the deal currently on the table, or no deal at all. They were lied to by people who have now been found guilty of breaking election law with those lies. It’s entirely reasonable to ask those people if they still want to proceed, knowing that the promises they were given were lies and that the consequence of their decision will be much, much worse than they thought.

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 23/07/2019 13:00

We’re fucked. Well done Brexiteers, you brought this to pass.

Justanotherlurker · 23/07/2019 13:00

Which, if anyone is interested, equals about 0.14% of the current UK population

You should see the percentage of those who voted for the president of the EU

Chillijamntuna · 23/07/2019 13:01

All of them are arseholes who don’t care about anyone but their own -rich- kind.
Boris just has an added layer of nonsense. What an embarrassing country we live in.

percheron67 · 23/07/2019 13:02

Catastrophe.

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 23/07/2019 13:02

A corrupt fucker who is only in it for himself and his cronies.
I hope he crashes and burns and takes the Tory party with him and leaves the rest of us with the job of rebuilding our relationship with a union of countries that can take us into an uncertain global future where we can work together as adults to solve our common challenges of climate change and pending resource crises, helping migrant people find meaningful lives, reducing pollution and building a sustainable global environment.
Honestly, Alexander de Pfeffel Johnson, just Fuck. Off.

dottiedodah · 23/07/2019 13:02

What I struggle to understand is how on earth we (the Voting Public ) dont get a say in who our future PM will be!.A tiny minority of fully paid up members of the Tory Party(In other words some of the wealthiest and most privileged in Britain) get to decide!.Big Surprise ,they have voted for one of their own!.How can this be a democracy ?Beats me.White knuckle ride from now on I reckon !

HennyPennyHorror · 23/07/2019 13:03

I left the UK 4 years ago and have lost touch. Can anyone summarise why it's bad? I believe it IS bad because some of my friends whose views I respect have posted sad faces on FB.

MindyStClaire · 23/07/2019 13:03

Sitting in NI listening to him talking about the relationship between "Britain" and the EU and feeling fucking terrified apprehensive. It would be so nice if the new PM realised we exist and have the most to lose.

Just how DOES David Cameron sleep at night?

Probably on a big pile of money from book deals and speaking gigs...

SinkGirl · 23/07/2019 13:03

If all this negotiation had happened before opening it up to a referendum, and people could see the shambles and understand what’s actually involved / at stake, do you honestly think that Leave would have won? Of course not.

GreengreenSofa · 23/07/2019 13:03

Brexiters deserve him. Should be an interesting autumn.

Will sass out options to emigrate to Mars.

Where in the world is quite nice at the moment?

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 23/07/2019 13:04

Good - I like him and I think you may find he will surprise you all and do a good job!

Roussette · 23/07/2019 13:04

In answer to the OP... God help us with this buffoon.

He's Trump with an Eton education.

I'm already sick of his phrases and jocular statements. Let's hope he'll be gone by Christmas and he can then go and play on his own hamster wheel of doom

Cinammoncake · 23/07/2019 13:04

Excellent post noodlnosefraggle

CuriousaboutSamphire · 23/07/2019 13:05

Vivienne I thnk, in your Brexit focus, you have misread me. I was pointing out that waiting a few years and checking a vote only ensures that nothing happens... we are forever waiting to check if anything changes before we action a vote, any vote, anything anywhere, any time... even Brexit, not solely Brexit!

And who did NOT lie during the Brexit run up? We were all lied to by everyone involved, some lies were worse than others, some were based on illegal practices, but NOBODY told the whole unvarnished truth.

Had that ever been told nobody would have voted at all! Cameron's hubris fucked us all!

Remember Thatcher and Galtieri? Same thing! A HUGE and costly political distraction that got way out of hand!
