@Graphista 💐 I truly hope things get better for you.

Shortstuff99 · 23/07/2019 20:53

Yeah. 9 years of tory govt - despite austerity we have a defecit of billions more than when labour were in govt.

Complete rubbish I’m afraid. deficit is nearly zero now which is why Torys are finally able to easy some of the austerity measures put in place due to Browns insane borrowing. And by the way Brown was highly complicit in the deregulation of the city that allowed GFC to happen in the first place.

Very little grasp of facts on here from the majority

val4 · 23/07/2019 20:53

I'm Irish...this is how I feel..

So Boris Johnson is the new PM.
StoneofDestiny · 23/07/2019 20:55

and here is what Bono Johnson allowed to be published about The Scottish people in The Spectator when he was editor. Imagine that was said about the Jewish people, Black people etc

And this is the person the Tory Party is fit to lead a united kingdom.

The Scotch – what a verminous race!

Polluting our stock,
undermining our economy.

Suppress the tartan dwarves and the Wee Frees!
Ban the kilt, the skean-dhu and the sporran
As provocatively, offensively foreign!
It’s time Hadrian’s Wall was refortified
To pen them in a ghetto on the other side.
I would go further. The nation
Deserves not merely
isolation
But comprehensive
extermination.
We must not flinch from a solution.

evilkitten · 23/07/2019 20:59

The deficit is about 2.8% of GDP. That's not nearly zero. It's about the same level as it was at the end of the labour administration. It's a lot lower than it's been since the conservatives got in, I'll grant you. But zero? No.

Shortstuff99 · 23/07/2019 21:00

Controversial journalist in publishing obvious joke shocker. I’m sure he holds those views with conviction. Desperate.

The irony

StoneofDestiny · 23/07/2019 21:03

This is Johnson on Liverpudlians, recycling the long disproven lies of The Sun. oh yeh - he is ideal PM material.

The deaths of more than 50 Liverpool football supporters at Hillsborough in 1989 was undeniably a greater tragedy than the single death, however horrible, of Mr Bigley; but that is no excuse for Liverpool’s failure to acknowledge, even to this day, the part played in the disaster by drunken fans at the back of the crowd who mindlessly tried to fight their way into the ground that Saturday afternoon. The police became a convenient scapegoat, and the Sun newspaper a whipping-boy for daring, albeit in a tasteless fashion, to hint at the wider causes of the incident

Shortstuff99 · 23/07/2019 21:04

A totally untrue lie that can be fact checked in 5 seconds on google. Defecit at end of labour government was 11% of gdp now its 2%

StoneofDestiny · 23/07/2019 21:10

Spot the difference? No, thought not.

So Boris Johnson is the new PM.
noodlenosefraggle · 23/07/2019 21:13

The thing is, the people who despise BJ in the main aren't Conservative voters. There are Tories who hate him but would still vote for him rather than let Labour in, people who think he's great who didn't vote Tory but may vote for him and people, a lot of them on this thread, including me who don't vote Tory so wouldn't vote for him anyway. We don't really matter.

Shortstuff99 · 23/07/2019 21:16

It’s almost as though it might be a good idea to have a good relationship with the president of the largest economy on Earth at a time when we might be leaving our existing major trading partner.

No point in that, might as well completely alienate us from him on a point of principle and take the hit on our economy, with the associated impact on public funds, that everyone was complaining about a few posts ago, like how Corbyn would. Much more sensible.

2eternities · 23/07/2019 21:24

Rich people, who run the country, couldn't care less about public funds since it doesn't effect them.

Graphista · 23/07/2019 21:26

@dontcallmelen thank you I hope so too - though not holding my breath!

The demonising of people like myself has been all too successful

Shortstuff99 · 23/07/2019 21:33

Oh I see. Rich people who run the country. That old chestnut. Totally dismissing the life efforts, education, experience and achievements of all MPs and the Civil Service with one simplistic comment.

merrymouse · 23/07/2019 21:37

It’s almost as though it might be a good idea to have a good relationship with the president of the largest economy on Earth at a time when we might be leaving our existing major trading partner.

Trump doesn't have the concentration or focus to maintain a relationship with anyone.

His only concern is maintaining his base, and the only way he knows how to do that is to be a massive racist.

He certainly doesn't want to do a trade deal with the UK that would be in anyway advantageous to the UK.

2eternities · 23/07/2019 21:39

Most were born into privilege, especially the ones who destroyed the country before may took over.

MyFlabberIsAghast · 23/07/2019 21:42

@MilkTrayLimeBarrel care to explain why?

Shortstuff99 · 23/07/2019 21:45

What about the ones who destroyed the country before the LibCon coalition?

What about the ones who would wreck the country in record time lead by a Marxist terrorist sympathiser

Maybe the country should be lead by val from Asda who knows all about living on a low income. But has less aptitude for parliamentary, constituency and party work, no experience managing stakeholders or canvassing / influencing opinion, and doesn’t have the ability to create / debate / draft legislation. I’m sure it would go even better than now what with our record levels of employment and being one of the largest economies on earth.

christinarossetti19 · 23/07/2019 21:45

Quite. How ever impressive MPs and senior civil servants life efforts, education, experience and achievements might be, being in shitty rented accommodation on a minimum wage job and needing to use food banks to feed your family despite working full time isn't one of them.

Neither is being street homeless, not being able to access health care because you don't have an address, not being able to get your children to school because you can't afford the bus fare and a myriad of other social realities in the UK, the fifth wealthiest country in the world.

Shortstuff99 · 23/07/2019 21:47

He certainly doesn't want to do a trade deal with the UK that would be in anyway advantageous to the UK.

I didn’t know you were party to the workings of the president’s mind.

Why on earth wouldn’t he? As long as it advantages America I think he’d be open to it.

Woofbloodywoof · 23/07/2019 21:52

Shortstuff99
Chances are Val from Asda would have a very good idea of how to keep a family of four afloat on £250 a week (if that) and probably still have time to smile at customers.

You on the other hand sound like a horrid raging snob.

Bloody hell.

Shortstuff99 · 23/07/2019 21:57

I don’t need to live on the street to recognise it as a problem, consult and gather data on the causes, and propose ideas to help reduce it, influence appropriate parties to do things to help.

Someone is better placed to do that from a position of power and influence over peers and that comes from a detailed understanding of the legislative and parliamentary processes, and the skill and leadership ability to influence stakeholders to get things done

Experience working on the shop floor in Asda is unlikely to give adequate training to cary this out proficiently. Although what with this being Mumsnet there will now no doubt be a string of posters who chose to work in Asda despite having being heart surgeons and astrophysics

Alsohuman · 23/07/2019 21:58

@Shortstuff99, all this education and experience is a bit pointless when Val from Asda could do better.

merrymouse · 23/07/2019 22:01

I didn’t know you were party to the workings of the president’s mind

The limits of his capabilities can be observed from his television appearances.

He has never demonstrated any understanding of American government or policy. He is a front man who might as well be selling Trump Vodka or Trump University.
