We can express horror but tbh I don’t know why anyone is surprised. It was always going to be him. Neither of them would have been my choice.

PerkingFaintly · 23/07/2019 19:02

Why is there a glockenspiel playing the St Trinian's theme tune in Parliament Square?

It was the Star Wars "Imperial March" (Darth Vader theme tune) last time they cut to the commentator...

noodlenosefraggle · 23/07/2019 19:04

Anyone would think it used to be impossible to travel and work in European countries before we joined the EU going off some of the hysteria on here hmm

The Eu didnt exist before we joined, 40 years ago. It does now, and we will be behind a great big queue if we or our children want to take advantage of the ability to work and study in Europe, because citizens of 26 other countries will be ahead of us. Never mind the bonfire of every single trade deal we have, so we wont be able to trade with anyone, not just the EU, because all our trade deals were between the EU and 3rd countries. Not between us and the 3rd countries. So that idiot Wetherspoons bloke wont be getting his South African wine.

NoLeopard · 23/07/2019 19:05

Fucking hell where's David Milliband or Ken Livingstone when you need them? Strong opposition would get rid of the joke party once and for all.

fotheringhay · 23/07/2019 19:05

Tribute to Russel Brand who at the last minute tried to make Ed Miliband cool, who if he'd been elected in 2010 the EU referendum wouldn't have happened?

Too much of a long shot?

fotheringhay · 23/07/2019 19:06

My comment was wrt St Trinians

Weird Miliband cross-post!

Shortstuff99 · 23/07/2019 19:08

The only people who have chosen Bojo as PM are Tory members. He is inflicted on us all.

Like how you Labour lot inflicted Gordon Brown on us, the guy who’s ridiculous borrowing and spending caused austerity?

Mytupenceworth · 23/07/2019 19:08

As an Irish person following this with interest I think we ask all fucked. Boris and trump are as bad as each other. Leo Varadakar needs to grow a pair and face this head on. Trade is fucked, backstop is fucked as I said we're all fucked

Noextremes2017 · 23/07/2019 19:09

Alsohuman

Apologies to you.

I was referring to the fact that the Brexit vote was 'leave' principally at the older end of the scale and the Tory membership is similarly skewed.

In the Brexit vote the under 24's shot themselves in the foot by not even voting. The rumour at the time was that they thought all they had to do was 'Like' remain on Facebook …….

It is a great irony that (and I mean this respectfully) the fate of the country has been decided in large part by those closest to the 'hereafter'!!!

And the fact that we now have a new PM who many people would regard as a liar, cheat, fool, moron (whatever) on the basis of 92,000 votes in a country of 60 million + shows that democracy is already dead in the UK.

Livpool · 23/07/2019 19:09

Awful man.

The UK is fucked

TanMateix · 23/07/2019 19:10

To add insult to injury, Trump has posted in Twitter congratulating Boris Johnson and saying “he is a good man, they call him the Trump of the UK, they love me there!”

Fucking idiot, at what time did we end in this fantasy world where everyone can ride an unicorn and plan the budget on the proceeds of magic trees?

HelloyouKant · 23/07/2019 19:14

This makes me so sad. No matter how incompetent or unethical someone is, they can be the prime minister as long as they went to the most elitist private school.

Today, the final nail in the coffin for social mobility.
Tomorrow, no deal!

MyFokMarelize · 23/07/2019 19:14

Graphista I really appreciate your knowledgeable and informative posts on this. You're saying everything I would say if everything within me wasn't just screaming FUCK over and over again!

Piglet89 · 23/07/2019 19:16

I have engaged in all the lengthy and articulate debate I’m going to at this stage.

Glasgow said it best.

So Boris Johnson is the new PM.
merrymouse · 23/07/2019 19:19

Like how you Labour lot inflicted Gordon Brown on us

I think it's fair to argue that a Prime Minister should not be replaced without a general election, but at least when Brown replaced Blair Labour had a majority.

TwoPupsandaHamster · 23/07/2019 19:21

The only people who have chosen Bojo as PM are Tory members. He is inflicted on us all

Did you think Tory members voting for the next PM would vote for any other party? It was Boris or Jeremy. Boris won... No surprises there 🤷‍♀️

Woofbloodywoof · 23/07/2019 19:21

There is so much clutching at pearls on here. I mean that to include myself; on June 24th 2016 I had to pour myself a stiff Scotch at 7am.

But it does us no good. 95% of posters on this thread may be horrified at the prospect of PM Johnson but what I have realised is that there is a deafening silence online - for the most part - from those who voted Leave, Brexit Party and will now in all likelihood return the Tories to majority Government at the next GE.

We should be asking ourselves why those voices are so silent when they clearly come out to vote in large numbers and deliver results that leave a lot of us scratching our heads.

Stop calling them morons. They are not. It pained me to accept some of the smartest, sanest people I know voted for these things. The only way forward is to engage; throwing our toys out of the pram is making no difference.

I’m not sure what we do. I think the only thing to do is accept this for now and try to look for positives. There are some, I think. BoJo is - his letterbox comments notwithstanding - fairly pro-immigrant and LGBTQ friendly. He’s a classical Liberal, I take some comfort in this.

I might need a while to come up with some other silver lining bits, sorry...

merrymouse · 23/07/2019 19:22

To add insult to injury, Trump has posted in Twitter congratulating Boris Johnson and saying “he is a good man, they call him the Trump of the UK, they love me there!”

Let's see how that 'good' relationship with Trump plays out at the next general election.

Hales1985 · 23/07/2019 19:23

Just finished watching sky news...did anyone see the bit where trump congratulated Borris and then looked for his other love child in the audience...Envy

Decormad38 · 23/07/2019 19:24

Clowns should stay in the circus. Not be running the country ffs!

derxa · 23/07/2019 19:24

I agree with everything you say Woof

Outsomnia · 23/07/2019 19:25

@Mytupenceworth

I think ROI has played a blinder on this. I watched Simon Coveney on Marr on Sunday, and honestly, he won hands down.

ROI is in the EU, so is the UK (for now), so it is an impossible game right now. Hard not to tiptoe around it.

Let's see how it all pans out. But it seems from what I am reading that EU is going to give a huge bail out to ROI if NO DEAL happens. They have united with you.

I still don't think a No Deal will happen in UK anyway. They are all bluster and bluff and full of hubris. But I think they know now they have met their match in the EU and they are not for turning.

Aaaaaaaaand we’re fucked.

Yes agree fully😫😰😱🤬

NoLeopard · 23/07/2019 19:28

I wish the Queen would just say no, I'm not having him as my PM. The fact he's so disrespectful to women will be weekly agony for both of them.

Graphista · 23/07/2019 19:29

"Like how you Labour lot inflicted Gordon Brown on us, the guy who’s ridiculous borrowing and spending caused austerity?"

As anyone familiar with my views will know I am no fan of new labour, but this is plain NONSENSE!

A GLOBAL financial crash caused by USA irresponsible lending led to the recession. The tories short sighted protectionist policies have compounded the cock up so that we're still suffering while most other countries are now well into recovery.

"You're saying everything I would say if everything within me wasn't just screaming FUCK over and over again!" Thank you. I can assure you my internal monologue is basically "shit I'm so screwed!" On repeat!

As a disabled, mentally ill single mum who is already having major problems getting the care and support I need just to exist, with a disabled daughter who is seriously considering emigrating if she can get a job that enables her to, despite the fact she also wasn't fully supported in order to make the most of our education system as a result of her health issues I am genuinely seriously concerned that I will basically be left to rot!

I am already just about staying alive, housebound, barely eating or sleeping, in constant pain, all but forgotten by the state despite my pleas and my dds and mothers pleas.

And I am far from an unusual case.

I am on several Facebook pages myself plus friends and family share on sm from similar, pages relating to UC. Poverty, homelessness (been homeless twice myself), disability, mental illness support etc and SEVERAL times a day now there are yet more suicides, deaths from neglect, more desperate pleas from people in real NO food, NO fuel, about to be or just have been evicted poverty who've exhausted all the avenues of support and struggling to find somewhere else to turn to.

Unfortunately people like silverysurfer really don't care about the sections of the population where this is happening unless the stink comes near them and offends their noses! At which point all they do is turn and walk to where they think it's more fragrant, readjusting their blinkers so they don't have to see those suffering.
