Maddow had a good segment yesterday about why the recent subpoenas and requests for Scrotus' financial records by the Judicial Cmte constitute steps in the impeachment process. She was pretty enthusiastic in her assertion that is really is the first step.
I'm not doubting her, she's a damned smart cookie. But I'm not going to start 'believing' until I hear Pelosi say it. It's not going to be real for me until it's formally announced in the House.
At any rate, unless control in the Senate changes, he won't be removed from office. And there's no chance of that until 2020. The most that might happen is that impeachment proceedings might be dragged out long enough to interfere with his campaigning and/or perhaps convince some 'undecideds' not to vote for him and/or to vote Dem for Senate and House.
Clinton's impeachment by the House and acquittal by the Senate took about 3 months start to finish. There were no formal investigations by the House as they used the Starr Report as their grounds for impeachment. Based on this, the House will have to really drag out their investigations if they want Scrotus to be in 'mid-impeachment' in Nov 2020. But then again, the Starr Report took 1.5 years to complete, so I suppose it could be dragged out.
