'Absence of Empathy'

For sure.

Baby.

'The two-month old baby whose parents were killed during the mass shooting in Texas was brought back to hospital specifically to meet President Donald Trump for a photo opportunity, it has been reported.

Trump visited El Paso's University Medical Center to meet with victims of Saturday's shootings in the city which left at least 22 people dead and dozens injured.

Along with the first lady, Trump was pictured with the baby who has been identified as Paul Achondo, the son of Andre Anchondo and his wife Jordan, who appear to have died shielding the infant.'

Trump's latest initiatives explained by Maddow.

Maddow had a good segment yesterday about why the recent subpoenas and requests for Scrotus' financial records by the Judicial Cmte constitute steps in the impeachment process. She was pretty enthusiastic in her assertion that is really is the first step.

I'm not doubting her, she's a damned smart cookie. But I'm not going to start 'believing' until I hear Pelosi say it. It's not going to be real for me until it's formally announced in the House.

At any rate, unless control in the Senate changes, he won't be removed from office. And there's no chance of that until 2020. The most that might happen is that impeachment proceedings might be dragged out long enough to interfere with his campaigning and/or perhaps convince some 'undecideds' not to vote for him and/or to vote Dem for Senate and House.

Clinton's impeachment by the House and acquittal by the Senate took about 3 months start to finish. There were no formal investigations by the House as they used the Starr Report as their grounds for impeachment. Based on this, the House will have to really drag out their investigations if they want Scrotus to be in 'mid-impeachment' in Nov 2020. But then again, the Starr Report took 1.5 years to complete, so I suppose it could be dragged out.

Beautiful Op Ed, *lion". We need more like him.

And BTW, thanks for the excellent job you do in searching out and posting these links.

'It must be tough to be Ivanka Trump. As the favored daughter of an openly racist president, and as a woman with a nebulous, nepotistic, and unpaid job as a senior adviser to that man, she is uniquely ill-equipped to condemn white supremacy, the very system that has fueled her unlikely rise to power. Yet there she was Monday, weighing in on the horrific mass shootings in El Paso and Dayton, tweeting about the “evil that must be destroyed” to a chorus of guffaws. Has she met her father?'

Lweji · 09/08/2019 22:29

It's on the linked article, but it's a photo worth remembering.

I wonder how on earth (or why on earth) they brought that baby back for a 'thumbs up' photo op.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 09/08/2019 23:58

I think the uncle in charge of the child is a Trump supporter, or wanted to meet him to check up on his political allegiance or something of the sort. And the dead father was said to have been a Trump supporter, too.

North Korea fires off more missiles, for the fifth time in a two week period. If I was living in South Korea or Japan right now, I would be feeling very anxious and annoyed that POTUS had stirred all this up.

Roussette · 10/08/2019 08:01

But Trump live talked about a 'beautiful 3 page letter top to bottom' that Kim Jong Un sent him ... maybe that makes the missiles OK?!

As for the photo with the little baby, there is quite rightly outrage about this photo op. What I just do not understand is this...
We know Trump is a loose cannon, foot in mouth, no filter, no empathy person. So he must be 'managed' continually by his Aides. What in god's name were they thinking?

The baby was not in hospital. Apparently someone from the WH went to see the Uncle (on the left in the pic) to ask him if he would bring the little baby back in for Trump to see and Uncle could meet Trump.
Even I would just know that would not be a good idea.

Why don't they think like this?

Even this pic which Melania released on her Twitter is not what it seems. None of the injured from the Ohio shooting would meet Trump. This is just a patient in the hospital (she is young, she was hardly likely to be in a Bar at 1.30am when it happened)

I just don't get how Trump and Melania and the aides can be so clueless, lacking in foresight, lacking in empathy,

The WH staff don't care. They wanted photo ops.
I hope the uncle will have had a reality check. He'll be under a lot of stress, and grieving, and I can imagine the pressure put on him.

Whosorrynow · 10/08/2019 10:12

I suppose this indicates the size and depth of his 'narcissistic wound' everything he sees is used to Stoke the fires of his vast but fragile ego
This ghastly lack of self awareness just makes him look like an embarrassing old man, or some kind of automaton that can't be reprogrammed and just continues to act in a completely inappropriate way

lionheart · 10/08/2019 10:20

Ditto with the pic of the cheery hospital staff.

OMG is this true???

Reports sort of indicate suicide but nothing is confirmed

The recent unsealed docs were really bad.

Authorities couldn’t keep Epstein alive by putting him under 24 hour surveillance? How convenient for a lot of rich and powerful men.

Exactly. Well he couldn’t die in a Trump building fire or a helicopter crash or a head on collision because he was in jail so it was just so very convenient that he dies by “suicide” while under suicide watch

OP posts:
PerkingFaintly · 10/08/2019 14:53

Regardless of who carried out the act, it wouldn't surprise me if he had help or, um, encouragement.

Jail can be pretty unpleasant for paedophiles in general. Epstein was likely facing all of that (not convicted yet, of course) plus potentially being a liability to other powerful people.

www.cnn.com/2019/08/10/us/jeffrey-epstein-death/index.html

Just woke up to the news. If it's a suicide I'm a monkey's uncle aunt.

This isn't the first time that TPTB have rid themselves of an inconvenient 'problem'. I guess you can't defenestrate someone locked in a windowless jail cell. Looks like 'someone' is taking lessons from Putin, no?
